Elijah Jackson wow bro. Vomiting after that is even more terrifying if you’ve ever heard about someone getting hit in the brain. Sometimes this is an actual reaction. If I vomited after such a close call I might then have a heart attack because I know this fact. Another semi common reaction to brain trauma that doesn’t immediately kill is clenching you jaws and crapping your pants. I may have done the crap thing myself. Less noticeable but a bit more messy to clean up. 😳

The original Range Ninjas were the edgy teenagers in the early 2000's who discovered how 'awesome' cheap katanas and ninjutsu accessories were (This kinda stuff was sold at trade shows and in malls - thus mall ninja). Then they grew up, got disposable incomes, and discovered firearms.

Not really a “range ninja” but I went to a range once and this guy was dressed as a patriot form the Revolutionary War, full kit and everything looked like George Washington. He had 3 muskets that he said “I made myself, I learned to do it in Pennsylvania.” Fired one then switched out to the next one. Scared the crap out of me, I never knew how loud and huge a flash a musket could make.

Musket kits are easily available; black powder guns don't require much federal BS to buy/build at all.
he might indeed have learned to make them in PA; why not? If that's where he lived when he made them, that's where he learned to make them.
The (indoor) range I use won't allow black powder, or I'd have at least one.

Remember kids, owning high-end gear and firearms isn't a problem. The problem is when you're wearing all that gear and you can't even run for more 10-20 seconds without breaking a sweat and your grouping at 100m outlines your target.
Edit: If y'all want to become a LARPerator, know what you're doing and get some training. Haley Strategic, Esoteric, etc. are all great options.

Spending thousands on gear and firearms: not always a problem.
Spending thousands on firearms and equipment, and 0$ on training: Usually a problem
Spending thousands on firearms and equipment, 0$ on training, and not knowing or caring how unsafe you're being: Real problem

Time and place : Scottsdale AZ, Scottsdale Gun Club. All of a sudden from the corner of my eye, a range ninja swiftly and tactically traverses to his bay by splicing the pie ...(which is the bay closest to the wall)...after an entire magazine spent on headshots the RO informs him he’s hit the top of the paper holder... strike one ... strike two... I think he had a ar500 plate under his shirt (no plate carrier)!being held by his belt... and of course a 5.11!t shirt . Before I know it, the red skeletonize, anodized AR he was shooting eloquently goes back into his case.... he looks twards me, and says “ you like full auto “ to which I respond “is the Pope Catholic ?” After a couple terribly executed pulls with a binary trigger. Looks at me, then says I’ve got three more... he assumes the position, with the stance of a man providing counter ambush fire twards a ridge line full of VC.... locked loaded ... BOOM BOOM... as I looked down range at the paper target... still flapping like an ass in the wind, the corner of my eye catches those two rounds impacting the side wall on his his bay... then, with one in the chamber, he was going for the one shot one kill, a head shot... that target didn’t stand a chance. As he pulls the trigger he manages to shoot the top of the target holder... the thing falls faster than a Newtonian Apple.. he looks at me, he’s a one man army, against the world... the thousand yard stare was strong with this one, then immediately the RO says “range 23’ clear weapon, as he is escorted from the bays by three ROs. Found out that day it wasn’t his first time he’s destroyed range equipment / structures... guess he managed to hit some lighting the week before. Fucking dumb ass

People like that young man are the reason most ranges around here won`t let us do anything but slowly and mechanically raise the fire arm and shoot one shot at a time at least one second apart. In fact some ranges dont allow AK`s stating accuracy is the problem.

@@gunfisher4661 lmao what? That is some high tier bullshit, dude, AKs are firearms, just like ARs, whatever right, they both do the same thing, shoot a bullet out of a barrel. An AK can be and usually is just as accurate as an AR, but there is this common misconception that AKs are just "innacurate pieces of damn shit", I mean hell, some Afghan AK that's had 30,000 rounds put through it and is practically a smoothbore at this point then sure I would accept that. But, most AK barrels last around 6000-12000 shots until accuracy really starts becoming an issue, ARs are literally the same.

I remember when I first got into training for use and carry of multiple firearms (i.e rifle AND a pistol) and the transition bits are easily the most dangerous part. I played smart by only using dummy rounds but one of the first drills I ran and forgot to flick the safety. Same thing happened to me; rifle came down on the pistol belt, trigger snagged on a pouch, and dropped the hammer. Obviously because it was dummy ammo in use, no bang, but just that click alone sent a chill up my spine. The mind goes a million places when accidents like those happen and it did make me think how many times someone else has done the same thing but not the smart way. So I now advise everyone I talk to about it: Take. It. Slow. Take it safe. Do not ever load live ammo during training, only during execution. And if possible, seek a trainer and take classes. None of "Flannel Daddy", War Poet, etc got there on their own, you will not become the exception.

    • @aleksfoxtrot8044
      @aleksfoxtrot8044 4 роки тому

I always make sure when I'm running transition drills the rifle is set up so that it either malfunctions and I must transition or it runs out of ammo so I must transition. I went to one class where the instructor wanted to us to work on transitions by just slinging a hot rifle and transitioning. I told him I wouldnt do it, nor would I stand on the line while everyone else was doing it. Lol.
Some people shouldn't be training others. It is possible to be self taught this day and age to an extent, with youtube, training DVDs, etc. But nothing replaces a good knowledgeable instructor being able to refine your skills.

    • @acrienteangelic1862
      @acrienteangelic1862 4 роки тому

@@aleksfoxtrot8044 Agreed. I don't necessarilyrun just failure drills. the drill I was running that first time was simply going from hot to safe and weapon transition on a reactionary target. This can be applicable to any of your rifle going dry and transition, malfunction and transition, etc as you are only training the muscle memory of: safe, drop, draw, and present. As for trainers, I've had my fair share of telling a trainer to fuck off because I felt what he was doing was unsafe, stupid, or is just a moronic drill. I had one guy try to train me to do a rifle recovery drill that required I fire my gun at a target, he comes up and throws my still very much loaded and hot rifle downrange, and I have to run and recover it, then dump 5 more shots on target to "simulate an artillery explosion knocking my rifle away" ... that's supposed to be slung to my body... and I shouldn't be planning for walking onto a Michael Bay film set... Beyond stupid. Thank god at least he wasn't making us throw our personal rifles but did call all of us who didn't "pussies" for not "trusting our rifle can survive being thrown and if it can't we should get a better rifle" like I trust my POF Renegade+ to handle that fine, but that's $2K of gun being chucked like week old garbage onto concrete. Yeah, dude can go fuck himself.

Apologies in advance if this is kinda long.
My town has an outdoor public range. I've been going there for almost 3 years, and it's pretty "laid back" when it comes to reasonable rules. We do have two Range Officers, who are chill and generally just let everyone do their thing and have fun. They just kinda hang out in the back and make sure everyone's being safe.
I'm there one day zeroing the red dot on my AK. That afternoon it was just me and a two other guys with their hunting rifles.
I notice three dudes show up in a lifted Dodge Ram, and start unloading their gear. These guys all have the "whole 9 yards" stuff going on.
Plate carriers, helmets, tactical pants, Oakleys, yada-yada.
They each have those fancy Pelican cases, and take out some very nice (and pricey) ARs. Which of course, have lights, PEQs, grips, and Eotechs. One of the rifles in particular was a very good looking POF with a bronze finish. The others I wanna say were Daniel Defense or BCM.
Trying to be friendly, I approach them to compliment their rifles. Because again, these were some super cool setups, and I was genuinely interested.
They reply with "Thanks man," and I get back to it. Seems fine right? Sure these guys may be flexing, but at least they're not douche-bags I'm thinking. Welllll, I was about to think otherwise.
Now, our range isn't super strict like other places when it comes to rapid-fire. I'll admit, being an AK guy, I enjoy some double or triple-taps here and there. But I always do so reasonably, meaning if I'm only the one in the range, or if others are okay with it. These "operators" on the other hand:
5 minutes or so pass, they get all set up. They all step up to the firing line, and take aim at a steel elk target which is at 100 yards.
Then, without warning, just start DUMPING mag after mag after mag at this target. You can probably imagine, the target was not even scratched. They did kick up a lot of dust though. At this point of course, the R.Os rushed over, called a cease-fire, and started yelling at them.
I wasn't mad at the fact that these dudes were "weekend warriors," and I wasn't mad about them randomly blasting. What REALLY got on my nerves is the way they responded to the R.Os. I don't remember exactly what the R.Os told them, but to summarize it was something along the lines of: "You guys need to calm down with that shit or leave."
To which these assholes say: "Chill out bro, we know what we're doing. We've been training for years. We've been to all kinds of ranges and never had any issues. Don't be a fucking buzzkill."
WOW! SERIOUSLY? That was retarded levels of disrespect.
The R.Os were done with it and kicked them out. As the guys were packing up their truck to leave, they shook their heads and did the "tsk, tsk, tsk" thing, as if the R.Os were the stupid ones.
I never saw them again, thank the Lord.

Surprisingly I’ve only seen one range ninja in my life. I was in the “store” part of the range where you can buy ammo, rent guns, pay for range time etc. I was looking at a rock island 1911a1 GI (eventually bought it and it’s one of my favorite pistols) and this guy in full plate, helmet (with NVG hooked up), knee pads, elbow pads, headphones, mic, etc walks into the store and the guy at the counter drops what he’s doing and tells him to get the fuck off their range. The ninja (all butt hurt and pissy) leaves and I ask him what that was about and he says they don’t allow any one kitted up like that on their range.

Absolutely. One should never train unless you know what you're doing. And unless uncle Sam has magically declared you a soldier, stick to practicing getting behind things and calling someone to come out at some point and make a report for the insurance claims. Save the range for real government employees to come out and qualify on once in a while in between cleaning things.

That is a seriously scary story. I'm at a range that requires membership. If it was a crowded firing line and that went down, they would be permabanned. In fact, since there was property damage and possible injury, I'm pretty sure the police would be called. Actually, it doesn't need to be crowded. We're fairly informal to a point. That point is violating a safety rule. One violation is a permanent ban from the facility. It has to be that way because with the climate the way it is, the range could literally be shut down forever without warning because of shenanigans. It's a nice facility and we value it.
That twirling maneuver you speak of is something I am totally unfamiliar with. It sounds like something that should be practiced with dummy ammunition. I bought dummy shells for my shotgun to learn how to handle it rapidly. The potential cost of an ND is infinite.

I always leave when "Range Ninjas" show up. They seem to travel in packs, and often overwhelm the Range Safety Officer. One range manager in my area doesn't hesitate to kick them out after the second warning.
My worst experience at a range wasn't with a Range Ninja - it was with a well-endowed young woman who chose to wear a bikini top to practice with a Stoeger Luger in .380. Well, her sixth round's case decided to find its way between her ample jugs.... Thus began the hot-case between-the-tits dance. She fired the pistol wildly, and before I could get away, one of her shots liberated the fourth toe from my right foot. It only took the Range Officer about three seconds to come from the opposite side of the range, but, too late, the damage was done.

I have a range ninja story that happen last weekend. Me and six of my friends from work went to a local range on the out side of midland TX. We had to go get 3 lanes do to this ranges rules of only two per lane but since we were a large group they allowed us to get the three furthest lanes so we could transition from lane to lane without removing firearms from said lane. We had my cz scorpuon my ar15 my fn 45 and my buddies Smith and Wesson m@p 9mm pistol. We are hanging out just having fun and doing small competitions like battle ship and kill the zombie thor (zombie target that look like a prissy Hollywood girl and her chihuahua went threw Romero's film universe) when out of the blue these two range ninjas come in with there plate carriers and warbelts. Literally every name brand gear item you could think of they had on and they were dripping with things hanging off of them. Long story short they get the lane besides our three and the rules at this range was 1 round a secound when out of nowhere these two proceed to dump a 60 round mag as if their firearm was on full auto. Turns out they had binary triggers in their set ups and came to the range to see how fast it was " to the real thing" and proceeded to ruin our time since with there muzzle brakes and rapid firing we could not aim with the concussion and vibrations these guys were pulling off. (We were in an indoor range so everybody knows) we had to get the r.o. three times not just for their rapid firing but also their blatant disregard for safety. At one point they held their rifle across their body as they were talking pointing the barrel directly at the glass and into the the main room of the business. At this point me and my buddies had enough and we ask the R.O. to at least keep them pointing their guns pointed down range as we packed up ours. We left a few hours earlier then we intended do to the simple fact that everybody in my group felt unsafe and unable to have fun because these tactical timmies wanted to be operators.

Dude fires, it lands up and to the left. it looked like it was tumbling due to the oval entry hole. he goes on some tangent about how glocks arent always accurate and how Sig is better like okay dude. after a bit of arguing, I see the ejected casing with the end blown outwards, this mf dropped a 9mm in my glock 22... i told him to put my firearm down and to pound sand.

I was performing the role of range safety for my unit in army national guard last year during battalion quals, another company sent some of their green privates to us to make the process go faster which is fine. But so many of them didn't even know the very basics of operating their rifles like magazine loading. I had one private point their loaded m16 in my face when they had a malfunction so naturally i smacked it away and the thing goes off when it hits the ground. Apparently that was my fault as well, basic training is failing these new recruits not even teaching them these basic level skills that many civilians are very familiar with. I guess it falls down to the will to learn and will to teach.

Range ninja story, but not a dangerous one.
This was like 2003/04. I had 3 firearms total, M44 Mosin, Yugo SKS, CZ 75BD (combined cost under $500). I am living in Scottsdale, AZ and going to the Scottsdale Gun Club. Nice and expensive range that had a great service member discount, so I could afford it, just barely, because I was kinda poor.
There I was, practicing with my CZ, trying to do well when up in the bay beside me rolls "Mr. Glock". This guy has a Glock range cap, Glock Polo, Glock range bag, which opens up with levels and extensions like an RV. I don't even KNOW what some of the crap in the bag was aside from the fact that it had to be every accessory known to man for what looked like a G19.
I've got to admit, I got a little bit nervous. I mean, I am not Jerry Miculek, but I don't want to look like a scrub either, so I start really focusing in. I am taking time on my shots, making every one count, controlling my breathing.
I see out of the corner of my eye this guy starts assembling things. I'm not looking right at him but I am thinking, "what the hell? It's a Glock, what is there to assemble?" But I dial back in and start with another mag.
I get my pride pumped up, trying to defend the CZ honor against the Glock-tard Empire here beside me. My CZ's shot off a mag-and-a-half before he's even opened up. I even move my target a LITTLE BIT FARTHER AWAY than it was to prove my manhood (because I didn't have a competitiveness complex or anything).
The dude beside me looks like he's sighting something in, taking careful measurement, lining something up. I get a little bit nervous, then I hear a: "ping! clunk, clunk, clunk. . ."
I look over at this guy and he puts his forehead down into his hand, shaking it back and forth, and I can see in his other hand that he had somehow sent his slide DOWN RANGE.
For the first time, I see this guy fully. He got sold by somebody every boutique piece of Glock trash, trying to make up for the fact that he knew he didn't know how to shoot. I go over to him and the guy says, "I just got all of this stuff, I don't know what I'm doing."
After giving him a "it'll be okay big guy" talk, I get the range master (a guy I know and a good instructor), and ask him to help retrieve this dude's slide and maybe provide a little "additional instruction" on the old wonder 9.
I know this is only a supposed range ninja sighting, but sometimes, the most expensive kit is just making up for lost training time and a GIANT FLAG that says "I just got sold on this by a guy that just hit his sales quota!".
Don't ever be ashamed of what you have, especially if you have gotten good with it. The Scottsdale Gun Club is a great range, but sometimes people get wrapped up in being in the wealthy part of town (FN SCAR 17 shooters, cough, cough).

They clearly had no experience and the recoil was striking them in the forehead. They muzzled us multiple times, and had an ND which thankfully was downrange. I was absolutely pissed. My buddy was my best man in my upcoming wedding just days later. I cussed them out while facing them with my gun in the low ready. I wasn't going to die right before my wedding, and I wasn't going to let my buddy get shot either. Thankfully they immediately left, but they gave us and the RO some lip. Wearing a good plate carrier to the range may not be the worst idea, after my experience and hearing about that guy who commented (I'm wondering if the vomiting was also from a concussion). Don't forget a good IFAK with a proper tourniquet, good wound pack and chest seal, among other things.

I'm a RSO at the Rattlesnake Mountain Shooting Facility in Benton County, WA.
I haven't seen any of this shit yet, thankfully, but every now and then we get the ya-hoo who thinks he's the fastest gun in the West trying to do quick draws.
Well, quick draw has a very high potential to go horribly wrong, so drawing from the holster PERIOD is banned at the public range (called the Rose-Iris range).
However, if you go through RSO training and become a certified RSO (not too hard, and is free), you can also get certified for the "Pistol Bay" range which is normally only open to the public during certain events, but RSOs get 24/7/365 access to the range. At that range, you are allowed to practice quick draws, and other urban warfare drills. The name "Pistol Bay" is very misleading, as that range has I think it's like 14 full size 100 yard bays, one has a mock-up wild west main street for cowboy competitions, and another bay has a mock-up building the local SWAT teams use to practice room breaching, clearing, and RSOs can use it when the SWAT teams aren't using it.
Even at these special ranges, safety must be paramount. There have been no deaths at the facility, and we aim to keep that clean record. It only takes one fucking range ninja to kill someone, and next thing we know, the park service will no longer lease the land to us, and the range would have to be shut down, all because some stolen valor fuckwit wanted to look cool for his stupid social media. Don't be a range ninja!

One time I watched a guy shooting his German K98 pull the trigger, and when it went *click* he immediately stood the rifle on the ground and stared down the barrel. As he was bringing the rifle up to try again the hang fire went off into the steel table in front him. If he had waited 1 or 2 seconds longer he would have blown his own head off.
They closed that range a year later because someone was accidentally shot and killed by another shooter's negligence.
The woods surrounding that area were no better. Joggers and hikers were hit by stray bullets. People shot over roads and towards campsites. Several times I experienced other people's stray bullets zinging past my head or dropping out of the sky while I was minding my own business camping or shooting in a safe manner. Not to mention that the woods were littered with tons of spent plastic shells, shot up appliances, broken glass, etc.
It's sad that idiots have to ruin it for the rest of us. I think Colorado Springs attracted a special kind of stupid.

Jesus. Yeah dumb guys getting even dumber bitches to do that sort of "shooting" are equally turds in comparison to range ninjas.

I've got one for ya Mike. Back about 5ish years ago I was with my buddy at a formally public range. We set up at a free bench at the 25 to 15 yard section, unpack our gear etc. After setting up and putting a few rounds down range, the glock ninja appears. This gamestop manager looking asshat sets up and during range cold, I try to strike up conversation with him and he just gives me a mean look. So I back away and setup some fresh targets thinking maybe he's just had a rough day or some shit. Once range hot is yelled out (this range didn't have staff so most people used common sense to keep the place safe) he pulled out one of his several glocks and goes to town. No problem, I thought, then I start getting plinked on the head with spent 9mm brass over and over again, one even got caught between my eyepro and the side of my head. I eventually go up to him and ask politely if he can watch where his brass is going, bitch just gives me a dirty look again and starts right back up emptying mag after mag, nearly every other case striking me in the head. We eventually said fuck it, and left, sorry it had no real good conclusion, just a bastard who had a hard on for dome-ing me with brass, and his never ending cargo pants and boxes of mags.

I wear a chest rig to my range, but not for showing off or anything like that.
It's just more convenient for carrying my ammo.
But then I also own my range and walk three quarters of a mile to it.
So I need ways of carrying my stuff in.
I never claim to have been in the military or to know everything there is to know about shooting, that's just stupid and disrespectful to our service members.
There are always better trained people out there than me and I am open to learning.
I have a couple of younger guys that do competition shooting than come out and train on my range.
Real fun to watch those guys.
They perform very safe and professionally. Taking things slow and working their way up to speed every time.

I have a hint if you have to go to public ranges. Try going on a Monday or Tuesday most idiots have to work.
