A few years ago Swords was considered one of the best and safest towns to live in.
You were more likely to be mugged by the anti litter campaigners searching your pockets for litter.
Nobody really knows why its called Swards.
Some say its from the old word Sord meaning a clear spring of water like in An Sord.
Others say its for the grassy swords of land that no longer exist as they built the town and castle on it.

I heard it's from St.Colmcille's well of pure water located on that one-way street directly opposite Penney's in the Pavilions.

Bit late there’s the Old School house along the church road, cock tavern on the main road, and peacocks down in river valley. The Lord Mayors on the corner of forest road and main st closed a couple of years ago. Not sure what’s gonna happen to it.

It's named for the people who founded the area. At least that's what my husband was taught by his Grandfather Swords whose father came to America from there.

bet u didn't know that swords is deemed the "third best town in ireland to live in". that speaks volumes about the fourth best town i suppose. it's looks like a wonderful place to settle down & get pissed, but i'm not moving there unless i can get dutch gold. & personally, i think pissing outdoors should be encouraged to save water. i don't want to be the only one peeing on my petunias.
