3 points i would give Nikon as well are : Optical viewfinder : Nikon (Watching threw Lenses and not a screen is way better, just dont look at the sun guys !) Buy second hand : Nikon. Buy new : Sony Wheater sealing, harsh condition : Nikon (not even close) Weight and size : Sony Both systems are great, and after all, they dont matter that much. Only the pictures do. I see alot of wildlife competition winner shooting old nikon camera such as Nikon D3s. Loved the video! Ill jump DLSR Nikon soon ! Have a great time, and dont forget to be creative with your pictures ! Love from switzerland
DSLRs are still very relevant, especially with pro work. If you have invested in a system already, there is no need to change to mirrorless. Maybe makes sense for hybrid shooters/videographers and youtubers, or if you want the latest and greatest gadgets. But durability, longevity and dependability are more associated with DSLRs rather than MLCs. Size could be the deciding factor, but fast primes and pro zooms are kinda the same size across all cameras with equal sensor size. I've heard from Sony users about stuck/broken shutter curtains, lockups and various other hardware issues and not so much from Nikon/Canon DSLR guys. Also weather sealing with mid/high end DSLR bodies is still better.
Also lowlight event photography - forget about focus assist grid from flashes or triggers on mirrorless cameras. That came as a huge disappointment for me
You found nikon's menu to be messy? Are you drunk? It can't get any more easy than that. It's literally only the 5 tabs that have the settings that you need to set everything you want.
I’m using ML for work but I really want to own a DSLR again. I miss the chunky mechanical feel of “older” cameras. This D780 is perfect as it has new enough features I could use for work from time to time and in the same time it has full compatibility with af-D lenses which I love. The A7iv though is a compelling option. Totally agree!
From my experience of Nikon DSLRs including the D780, they are workhorse cameras. The Sony Mirrorless cameras are well built but not to the standard of any DSLR from Nikon or Canon for that matter. Native lens size comparison from both Sony and Nikon do usually weigh similar in size and weight. For example the Nikon 85mm f1.8 G AF-S and the Sony FE 85mm f1.8 lenses are of similar weight and size.
I believe through an external recorder, specifically Atomos Ninja V/V+, you can get 10-bit ProRes 422 N-Log videos if you use its own hard drive, and with a en-el15 dummy battery you can use D-tap for extended run times. And compared to Fuji (I don't know about Sony) the D780 seems to be more durable, as it does not overheat. (Fuji had to sell external cooling fans) Though there is no 4K 60/120p, but shooting raw at 1080p and going proxy during the editing then getting the output at 4K might solve that issue for most cases. I'm not sure about the latter, but please let me know your thoughts over it. I'm really digging for a D780. PS. I think it was not quite right to compare an f/2.8 lens' weight to an f/4 lens. Sony's 24-70 f/2.8 weighs a lot more.
I ordered the D780 today and wanted to watch some views on it. Had a D600 and then a D750 back in the day. Thought I'd get the last Nikon DSLR, (I hope it isn't). I have an FE2, 2xF100 and a FA, a couple of D fast prime lenses, three fast prime ais lenses and a fast G prime. I paid £1350 for the body only. I cannot wait. 'Next Day Deal' online if anyone is interested. Loved your comparison video!
My reason to stay with Nikon are the lenses. I got my 24-70 2.8 used for 500EUR, the 150 600 new for 550 EUR, the 70 200 2.8 new for 900 EUR, the 28 300 for 300 EUR, ... Mirrorless is very expensive
Bro I literally thought the usb charging on my D780 was broken until you mentioned that the camera has to be switched OFF. Why didn't anyone else mention that?? LOL

Hearing you say that Sony have easier menus I can’t trust anything that you say lol.
well.. the comparison was going ok.. until you started comparing completely different stuff.. 24-70 f2.8 vs 24-70 f4.. to compare for size? lol.. obviously the f4 lens is gonna be smaller and a lot lighter, it's an f4.. and comparing Sony A7Siii vs D780 for video..?? When the A7Siii is like the king of the video cameras of his age.. and the D780 is a pretty much just a photography camera with nice video options on top.. And the whole reselling value point.. you're looking at it backwards.. you can get a full kit of premium glass for Nikon for the price of a single premium lens for Sony.. i while ago i bought the full trinity 14-24 f2.8, 24-70 f2.8, 70-200 f2.8 + a Nikon D750 camera for 1.5k$... if i sell back the camera for 500$ .. i get to keep all 3 premium lenses for 1k$.. that's like the cost of a single Sony 24-70 lens.. lol Personally i think the only reason to really go for the Sony system is if you're going for videography or hybrid shooting.. but for photography you can go much further with a DSLRs budget
Nikon is probably buying its sensors from Sony, so no wonder the color and dynamic range are similar. Comparing the Sony A7sii to D780 is no contest as this Sony is twice the cost. The Sony A74 is closer in cost. I own the D780 and love it, but only do video occasionally. Yes, the Sony has more video features, but the Nikon D780 has enough of them for pro work and it has both flat picture profile or 10 bit N-Log for extending more dynamic range in video. Lots of great features.
The rubberized frip fail (1:23) is total nonsense, no one who ever had a Nikon experienced problems with solidity of the product. The "old school" viewfinder (1:41) is the reason for the R in DSLR, please... The "not dramatic difference" in battery life (2:33), I mean, you can't be serious. Concerning lens size and weight (3:03) you should compare apples with apples: a7iV + 24-70 2.8 is just 250g (0.55 pounds) lighter than Nikon + 24-70 2.8. For AF: Sony is indeed better, in the sense that in some situations Nikon fails and Sony doesn't, but people often forgets which situations we are talking about., these are so extreme that no one that will shoot in these situations will ever need to watch this video... Lenses: the huge advantage of any mirrorless over DSLR is indeed that you can adapt pretty much anything, but then you can forget about AF. And if you don't care about fast AF (or don't care about AF at all), the used market on old Nikon lenses, you can live three lives without ever need of buying new lenses.... Finally, on new first party lenses, I think everyone should check about prices: you are the first one I hear claiming that Zeiss glass is cheaper than Nikon glass. Not to mention the price difference between the two bodies. I don't know, you could really state many valid reasons to say that Sony A7IV is better than Nikon D780, but a video like this, man, it's just silly.
With the D780 lens options are massive because it uses ALL Nikon lenses no matter how old. Truth is the D780 is the best middle range camera on the market between mirrorless and DSLR. I agree that if your primary task is video and only shoot photos and you don't have Nikon lenses then yeah go Sony. If you want a more versatile camera offering the best of both worlds then the D780 is it.
Thanks for that comparison, a very usefull video. I've used Nikon DSLR for years and currently my main camera is the D780. It's an amazing camera and completely surpasses previous DSLR models I've had. Tried out a friend Z6 mk2 recently, which was a very good camera but I didn't see any improvements over the D780 to justify me from switching. My opinion changed though when I also got to try out the A7 IV for a full day session last week. It was amazing! Very usable and much better interface to the a6400/a6000/a5100 I also used to own. Excellent sharp images taken during the session with incredible autofocus in comparison to any Nikon I've had or used, and the battery easily lasted for the +900 shots taken during the shots. Only thing that puts me off is the flip screen it has. Prefer if it didn't swing to the side but I think it's something I can learn to adapt to. Yes I'm now looking to do the switch from Nikon to Sony.
thanks for the comparison, this is a very useful video... but I was wondering if you used preset for the color grading of D780.. the color is wonderful! if it's not can you share it for us.. I've been using D780 for about 2yrs but I didn't get the stunning color output like this.
@@NOlimitsON I see... I loved the color editing it's wonderful... I thought the color output was straight from the camera! thanks for the information. more power to you
I much more preffer the DSLR type of a camera than mirrorless... I just like them more when I see them side by side. But I would say mirrorless is better, maybe, maybe not... However if you cannot take great shots with any of this modern expensive cameras then you should probably take a class 😅. Yeah, Sony is just better in AF, like NIKON is better in durability, but in the end it doesnt matter... Choose your tool and enjoy the ride ☺ Enjoy your camera instead of watching youtube haha

Nope, colors are not almost identical, and when it matters most they are matching least. I tried four Sony bodies and was never satisfied with colors no matter how much I tried to match them to Nikon. Creating presets is a waste of time, you may think you created a good preset using one photo only to find out the next one looks terrible. Though Sony is tweaking colors in every camera generation they still can't get as pleasing colors as Nikon.
Nothing like Sony fan boys making comparisons on cameras with completely different technologies and markets, and the fans in the comments who ignorantly think they are the best. You compared an apple to an orange here and a workhorse f2.8 to an f4 lens in the size comparison. If you REALLY want to compare your amazing sony, do a video on it vs. the Z9 and the Z lenses; a pro mirrorless vs. pro mirrorless Not like Pro mirrorless vs. enthusiast DSLR like you did here. btw, sony menus are the worse, and I shot with them for Years, they do not compare to Nikon and Canon menus. Sony I found are so convoluted and all over the place.
Comparing an F/4 lees with an F/2.8???? And saying: Look how big it is the F/2.8 lens when compared to the F/4 lens!! Hahahahaha!!! Sony boy! Sony boy!
😂I’ve said everything about it in the video, don’t be such a nerd, mate. I also compared two 85mm f1.8 and a ton of different lenses. Trust me 95% people wouldn’t see the difference between f2.8 and f4
Which one would you pick and why?

D780 is unbeatable in terms of Dynamic range and High Iso, check Dpreview charts and you will see that it surpasses any Sony by far.

btw, sony menus are the worse, and I shot with them for Years, they do not compare to Nikon and Canon menus. Sony I found are so convoluted and all over the place.
If you wanna compare Z9 you gonna be comparing with Sony A1 😉
@@NOlimitsON you missed my point. btw, seems like the A1 is coming up short to the Z9.
Sony>nikon lol
Nikon is ugly compared to Sony
I wouldn’t say so)
Your priority on judging a camera by its looks is insane.
But handle like a dream!
Comparing an F/4 lees with an F/2.8???? And saying: Look how big it is the F/2.8 lens when compared to the F/4 lens!! Hahahahaha!!! Sony boy! Sony boy!
As a disclaimer I said it’s not apples to apples comparison - just for the reference.
0;23 where is this place ?? ..that church ?? looks like armenia ...
It is Armenia 😎
@@NOlimitsON 👍👍👍👍👍
You're comparing f2.8 to f4? Ok, we're done...
😂I’ve said everything about it in the video, don’t be such a nerd, mate. I also compared two 85mm f1.8 and a ton of different lenses. Trust me 95% people wouldn’t see the difference between f2.8 and f4
@@NOlimitsON Wide open they would
Nikon the best picture , sony the best focus ,best vdo ,but sony lens very bad optic
