@@scottinman5788 Look into an LP cleaning system like Spin Clean, or perhaps an ultrasonic cleaning system. I use the KARC-1 from Kirmuss Audio. If the smell is coming from the LP jackets, though, I regret that I don’t have any suggestions that might help, but I wonder if leaving the jackets outdoors in the sun for a day might kill the mildew/mold. I haven’t tried this, but it couldn’t hurt.

How about the best ways to test anti-skating and correct for it.
I know that you have the RT85, Jarrett. So do I, and I love mine. Fluance, like most manufacturers say to set the anti-skating dial to the same value as the tracking force, but that’s not necessarily precise enough.
I have a couple of old LaserDiscs, and they are perfectly suited for testing ant-skating. They are precisely flat and cannot warp, and have a smooth surface (no physical grooves). When I dropped the needle, I found that the tonearm skated toward the spindle. Observing this, I would move the anti-skating dial while the stylus was on the surface of the LaserDisc, until it remained motionless. That’s how I tuned my RT85 so that the anti-skating force was exact. Had I not done this, and if I had followed the instructions, there would be more pressure from the stylus on the inner wall of each groove, and it might cause more wear or distortion.
There are some audiophile TEST LPs that have blank sections for anti-skate testing, but using a LaserDisc allows someone to drop the needle any place on the surface to test the anti-skating force.
LaserDiscs can be found in thrift shops and online for under $2 or less. I have a local source that sells them for $5 apiece.

If your receiver doesn't have a grounding post you can always loosen a screw on it's cover and use it instead. Any metal cover on a receiver will be grounded, so any screw attaching it will also be grounded too. Taping it isn't a good idea, because if it loosens or contact is intermittent it could cause a grounding hum, which can blow speaker drivers if it occurs at a high enough volume level.

Actually, the original product specifications of a vinyl record were put at withstanding up to 8 grams. I'd say that if your tracking force is over 5 grams, your records will wear out faster (speaking from experience and research). But not be "carved up", more like your surface noise will very slowly increase.

My problems since I just started my collection:
    1) Not having enough records!
    2) Aged Warped Records not playing (or sounding well)
    3) Wanting better sound quality but not having enough for a new cartridge
    4) Accidentally bumping into the weight/anti skate
    5) Finding your favorite song on an album, buying it for about a dollar, and finding that one song you love has its groves destroyed! (I paid a few dollars finding it in a bin so atleast I have the rest of the record... but now I have to buy another)
Anyone else have their personal lists?

One of the two is a Disturbed Down With The Sickness Vinyl and the other is a 7 inch vinyl. Is there any way to make the player finish the songs before auto stopping? Well LP records were designed to withstand 6 grams. Yes they will wear down your records faster the heavier the tracking force is, but people exaggerate with this a lot. I have a teac lpr550 player at my summer home which tracks at 5.0 grams and i have played some records with it over 40 times and they still sound great. It also depends on your stylus a lot, i ordered a LP Gear Cerapreme Blue stylus for it which is a great stylus.

Probably your turntable audio is connected through cinch (rca) plugs, you can try to pinch a fine wire (remove insulation...) between the "cold" cinch chassis and the collar of the wire plug and connect it to ground. (Make sure not to touch the "hot" pin of the plug)

I recently hooked up my Technics SL-DB35 to my Yamaha RX-V663. Since the needle on the TT was missing, I replaced the cartridge with a Realistic-Shure RXT6. I also had to order the ground cable and the belt. Now I am waiting for the pre-amp to be able to have the system running the way it should, given that the Yamaha receiver does not have phono inputs. I also have many records that range from the '50s to the '80s, and when played, you cannot hear any crack or pop on them (yes, I take very good care of them LPs). Great video!

I got a new Voksun turntable but it seems to keep dragging like the spinning plate is catching on something. It makes my records sound slow and distorted, if it even bothers to play the record

Hi. I have a problem which is not listed in your video. I get a vibration drumming sound when my volume from the amp goes above a certain level. This generally occurs at the start of a record, even a new one. What could be the reason? I have a Marantz TT5005 turntable connected to an amplifier which has the pre-amp as well. So I operate the Marantz in the OFF mode.

I got the Ortofon Scratch and it says the tracking force is 4 grams. It seems a lot to me.
    Any thoughts?

Here's one for you: What is the problem when, after releasing the cue, your arm doesn't fall directly into the groove at that point, but drifts a little so that it is not falling into the feed, but rather several grooves ahead?

Set my tracking force on Pro-Ject Evo to 2, is it normal for cartridge to touch record? Or should tip of needle touch record only?

Everything well installed, sound is good, but when i touch the turntable cabinet works like a mike through the loudspeakers (resonance); (turntable is Project-Audio Classic Evo with Audio Technica VM95Shibata, Yamaha RX-A3050 and Focal Aria 948 loudspeakers on a Lovan Rack)...

I just got my Grandmothers old Fisher Turntable. I’ve hooked it up to my stereo receiver and got it to play but when it does every few seconds it seems to skip ahead. I just put a new stylus on it because hers was broken so I’m. Im not sure what to look at next. I’ve never honestly used a Turntable before so the technicalities are new to me.

Thanks for addressing some issues. But besides the grounding hum which I don’t have, I get this deep bass thump whenever I touch the turntable or lid or the cabinet it’s on. I’ve heard to try to isolate the turntable on its own cabinet or but it on a pice of concrete so the noise doesn’t resonate through the cartridge. This is not a plausible thing to do wires cables are short and space is tight. What’s the cause and how can I fix it?

If possible fit a turntable wall shelf that will cure all your problems they can be baught at a reasonable price and can be a huge boost to sound quality if you are getting feedback through floors and cabinets hope that helps
