This is actually pretty common for anime in Japan that isn't shounen stuff. The TV anime is basically just an advertisement for the novels/manga/merch/blurays.That's why you see a lot of half-assed anime series that don't finish the story or skip arcs, etc. Fortunately in this case the production committee cares about releasing a good anime.

So I imagine what subaru and Emilia etc. saw were perhaps a personification of either Echidna's memories or just her witch factor. The same way they said Satella wasn't compatible with her Envy with factor and she had like a split personality because of it, that could be Echidna's witch factor

What I love in the scenes after Subaru made the contract with Beatie - She's just casually sitting in his lap and he's holding her waist and Nobody is surprised. Nobody even mentions it! Beatie was just being given a reward for a job well done! Lap time!!! How has Lap Time in this show become a theme for hard working or sad protagonists !

OH man, how the mighty have fallen. Beatrice went from all powerful guardian of ancient arcane knowledge in an extra-dimensional library in a wizard's mansion... to... powerless tsundere little sister of the MC.
Of course, if Subaru had any brains, he'd drag Beako to an extremely populated area, like the capital city, and just recharge her battery over the course of a week. I mean, how many people really visited that mansion over 400 years? A township's worth? ...maybe.
Yeah, Subaru has very high affinity with spirits, he could've been an op spirit mage, but guess we need to settle for Beako, but to be frank, their interactions in the novel are extremely cute.

I didn't knew that Subaru knew about what Emilia did. I can't remember him seeing it or her telling him... It's also not something she probably would like to share...
If you're talking about Emillia's ability, she told him in S1 Episode 3 when she was fighting Elsa. She said to Subaru that she had a trump card, one that would make her the only one standing.
Its not that he knew what she'd done in the past. He came into a situation where Emilias magic was slowly going out of control like back then. An ice mage slowly freezing up while clearly defending a group of people isn't hard to figure out. Plus after how many times Subaru had resolved himself to putting his life on the line... and giving it up it's probably familiar enough for. Him to identify in another person

She is never evil But wicked and greedy so you can't trust her at all and must always on guard But as long as Echidna is not a witch of greed, she's the echidna that Roswall and Beatrice met
With that bit about Echidna grafting part of her "soul" to escape the trial before it was broken, it makes me think of her as an AI rather than a Witch. She desires knowledge in a vast quantity, often how we describe AI once it connects to the internet causing a singularity and remaking itself. Though this one was created through Magic rather than Technology, meaning it would only be made free when given a vessel to leave in. Given this thought, maybe all the Witches Subaru encountered were AI based on the originals, of the seven needed to form the trials excluding that of Vanity and Melancholy as she couldn't understand the concept of Depression and Sorrow Subaru was experiencing after his second trial.

Just rewatched all of season 2, I have a far greater appreciation for it than I did when I was forced to watch weekly, the wait is going to kill me though, like already 3 years in and we havent gotten our season 3

That's crazy. So much was cut out. I wonder if we'll get a director's cut of the season season, and we'll see more stuff, including a precursor to season 3. I would love that. As for more cut content, I'd love to see Re:Zero season 1. Some Danmachi season 1 would be great too.
I suspect the Echidna we've seen to this point was an idealized version of herself in the dream world, not a perfect 1 to 1 of her actual self but a younger self with all the knowledge and capabilities she had later in life.
Hector mentioned how his Authority had made him into the Devil of Melancholy we saw in the episode. And how it wasn't something he particularly enjoyed the outcome of. So maybe the Echidna we saw in the dream was one (ideal looking) and fully embracing / overtaken by their authority. While the one in both Roswaal and Betty's memories where still able to keep it under wraps.

@@dex2723 Mmmm the authority certainly do have an effect on those who obtain them but Echidna is a Witch I assume she has a tolerance or compatibility with Witch Factors. And like we saw with Guese even with poor compatibility he physically wasn't that different it was more the mental tole and pain it inflicted on him more so than anything else.
Whatever the answere to this mystery is. Echidna in the dream never lied to us. And i dont doubt her statement that she "died at 19". Plus later on we found out that Echdina made several "clones" in various forms & shapes. So whatever the case is its probably a endgame thing. Especially with all the hints & suggestion that Echidna knew about Subaru & Emilia way before they meet & the whole plan to revive herself was also planned from the very beginning. What the author confirmed as well that Dream Echidna along the other Witches are the "real Witches from 400 years ago" whatever that exactly means.

I'm starting to think that Satella is also a very talented Spirit Mage and she's more inclined with fire magic compared to Yin prior to absorbing an incompatible Envy Witch Factor.
I wouldn't be surprised the whole thing with Echidna will be shown later I mean, they cut the whole "Who is Rem?" cliffhanger from season 1. It is kind of a given the thing about echidna will be included later one way or another

AniNews, thanks for making these. an an anime only, you miss out on a lot of these details and Re:zero is definitely one of those series where the "minor" cut content really adds to the lore and the world building.
I didn't knew that Subaru knew about what Emilia did. I can't remember him seeing it or her telling him... It's also not something she probably would like to share...
If you're talking about Emillia's ability, she told him in S1 Episode 3 when she was fighting Elsa. She said to Subaru that she had a trump card, one that would make her the only one standing.
Its not that he knew what she'd done in the past. He came into a situation where Emilias magic was slowly going out of control like back then. An ice mage slowly freezing up while clearly defending a group of people isn't hard to figure out. Plus after how many times Subaru had resolved himself to putting his life on the line... and giving it up it's probably familiar enough for. Him to identify in another person
This is the best anime I've ever seen. But the story is very complex

Echidna has always been the most interesting yet complicated character. Though, I personally don't think she's evil.
She is never evil
But wicked and greedy
so you can't trust her at all and must always on guard
But as long as Echidna is not a witch of greed, she's the echidna that Roswall and Beatrice met
Assuming the Echidna we know has the same qualities as the newly rebirthed Echidna, you’d be right but I don’t think that’s the case
With that bit about Echidna grafting part of her "soul" to escape the trial before it was broken, it makes me think of her as an AI rather than a Witch. She desires knowledge in a vast quantity, often how we describe AI once it connects to the internet causing a singularity and remaking itself. Though this one was created through Magic rather than Technology, meaning it would only be made free when given a vessel to leave in.
Given this thought, maybe all the Witches Subaru encountered were AI based on the originals, of the seven needed to form the trials excluding that of Vanity and Melancholy as she couldn't understand the concept of Depression and Sorrow Subaru was experiencing after his second trial.

Oh god. The Return was actually kind of pointed at. When emilia visited the crystal, one of the clone's dialogues used echidna's voice. i was wondering why, now i know.
well, obviouslt she felt bad for traumatizing garf and worried to find a way to be forgiven by subaru considering how tsundere she is with emotions. after all the author confirmed that echidna has a crusch on subaru on a personal level (and interest in rbd of course)

I think the cuts were made as to make the last episode more wholesome and satisfactory
But I do think that important details will be covered if S3 ever came out

I suspect the Echidna we've seen to this point was an idealized version of herself in the dream world, not a perfect 1 to 1 of her actual self but a younger
self with all the knowledge and capabilities she had later in life.
Hector mentioned how his Authority had made him into the Devil of Melancholy we saw in the episode.
And how it wasn't something he particularly enjoyed the outcome of.
So maybe the Echidna we saw in the dream was one (ideal looking) and fully embracing / overtaken by their authority.
While the one in both Roswaal and Betty's memories where still able to keep it under wraps.

@@dex2723 Mmmm the authority certainly do have an effect on those who obtain them but Echidna is a Witch I assume she has a tolerance or compatibility with Witch Factors.
And like we saw with Guese even with poor compatibility he physically wasn't that different it was more the mental tole and pain it inflicted on him more so than anything else.
Whatever the answere to this mystery is. Echidna in the dream never lied to us. And i dont doubt her statement that she "died at 19".
Plus later on we found out that Echdina made several "clones" in various forms & shapes. So whatever the case is its probably a endgame thing.
Especially with all the hints & suggestion that Echidna knew about Subaru & Emilia way before they meet & the whole plan to revive herself was also planned from the very beginning.
What the author confirmed as well that Dream Echidna along the other Witches are the "real Witches from 400 years ago" whatever that exactly means.
