  • A 'how to' guide showing the construction process of my very own bait pump. This video show what components are needed to build a bait pump and how to put them together to create a very effective bait pump and save money on shop bought versions. I have now pumped a lot of worms with this pump and it is extremely efficient.

Just a tip, use car fuel pipe for your stopper rather than black tape, it lasts forever. Plus if you can put the top nut for the handle inside the tube as the nut on the top will give you a massive blister if you have mega pumping sessions. Not poo poing your pump its great, just passing on about 10 years of experience. Well done though good job 👍👍👍🐟💙

A better way still is use a piece of broom handle, or round wooden dowel, drill a smaller hole than the steel rod to 60% into the dowel, screw it on. Nice smooth finish that won't hurt your hand. Also, a piece of plastic round piping above the rubber suction assembly is better than black tape. Hope you don't mind these suggestions. Great video.

Great video and homemade bait pump, I made one from 22mm piping but I put a 13mm plunger in mine with a rawl bolt to put the washers on.It doesn't give much suction as losing it from somewhere, so I might swap the 13mm for 7mm bar and get the ends threaded.Top job m8 go get the worms 👍

Had another look at my bait pump which I made it from 22mm and 13mm tubing all compression fittings to make it easier to take apart.I had loss of suction when drawing the plunger back, so I made some new rubber washers and seems OK so now just need to try it out as new to collecting worms either by pump or digging for them.

Yes I've used it 4 or 5 times now. I'm no expert at pumping worms but I get more worms quicker with this pump than I ever did with my old, shop bought 28mm one.

Thanks. I bought one very much like yours (but not as well-constructed) off Ebay from someone in Hastings for £35. Suffice to say, I got what I paid for and it lasted about 10 pumps before losing all suction!! The handle came out every couple of minutes and there was no tape bung, so it got stuck when fully extended!! I requested a refund, citing the above, was given one & not even asked to return the pump. It's too cold to dig now, so I'll wait until next Spring and probably just buy a decent one, as I'm way too lazy (and incompetent) to build one!!!

@@gsp I am sorry for these stupid questions. I have two of these copper 22mm bait pumps which I bought about 3 years ago
I don't fishing regularly as I live about 80 miles from the sea side. The pumps that I have has a fully threaded bar inside .I have seen them at diy shops. They are not strong enough as they bend after sometime while you pumping worms and can be a right turn off. I just bought a 28mm steel pump from a guy yesterday for 30 pounds a second hand one and I think he has probably scammed me. He told me yesterday that he will post the pump out to me. I also paid him for postage. I havent heard anything all day from him today despite the fact that I sent him few messages. I came across your video and it looks very practical .As I mentioned I already have 2 22mm pumps. I think all I need is a steel bar and that end cape. How much did you pay for steel bar. I guess that bar is 7mm. And where did you get the cape from. I know a garage guy he may will be able to put threads on it. And finally how is your pump performing with that steel bar in
