Glad this video exists as a time capsule of Lahaina before today’s devastating fire 💔 RIP to the town of Lahaina as it was before today; hope rebuilding won’t take too long and people can recover
Omgosh!!! Yes! My first time going was at 14 and we spent 3 wonderful weeks in Maui and I’ll never forget the banyan tree!! And the amazing people while there. All of our favorite surf shops I could go on it on. And then again at 17 years old. such a tragedy. Praying for the residents
I visited Maui in 2020 and 2021 because I have friends living there. For an Argentinian, it wasn't easy to get there. Over both of my two-month stays (in Haiku, Makawao, and Paia) I fell in love with the island, its residents, and its heart-awakening natural wonders. The fire was a devastating gut punch, and my heart goes out to the citizens of Lahaina. May they soon recover from this tragedy. Thank you for these shots!
I lived in Lahaina for 2 years, 1974- 76.Thank you for the trip down memory lane. TJ's Bounty used to sit where Shaved Ice now sits!! Good times back then! Mahalo
I was there May 5 to the 12th and Lahaina is awesome. Did a lot of things including the Road to Hana which was beyond amazing. And there was still so many places we couldn’t go. I had so much fun and would go back anytime. Thanks for sharing your video.
I'm thinking about the road to Hana, but worried that I may get dizzy or sick because of all the twists and turns. Is it really such a big deal (all the curves) or it's not so bad?
I was an exchange student in University of Hawaii Maui College in 2013-2014 and I went to front street almost every week. It is a very short street you can go through it within 15 minutes but a lot of historical stories you have to read. The harbor opposite the Wharf Cinema Center was always filled with tourists. I came back to China since I finish my internship in Sheraton Maui Resort. I do really miss Maui and miss Lahaina, the famous historical town. After coming back to China, I am always on my way finding the restaurants I had ever heard on Maui, I found Bubba Gumps in Hongkong and Hard Rock Cafe in Tianjin. I took my friends there and told my stories in Hawaii to my friends. Mahalo for upload the video but I am sad to see so few people in Lahaina due to the COVID-19. Hope it will recovery soon.
This video was from a few years ago & great memories. Unfortunately, Front Street is no more after the Lahaina Fires & the rebuilding process will take time. 🌺
Aloha! It's definitely different today. As in the description box, this video was filmed on May 28, 2021 & posted in Jun 9, 2021. It was a lot less crowded when there were COVID-19 restrictions than it is now in 2023.
How ironic that this video is titled "What Lahaina Looks Like Right Now", since what it REALLY looks like now is nothing like these happy, colorful scenes of bustling streets and businesses. It's a devastated wasteland of blackened debris, for blocks.
The video was filmed in April 2021, as listed in the description box. The date is also on the cover photo. It was posted back in June 2021 during COVID restrictions. Most of the comments are 2+ years old. It’s part of a series (ex Waikiki Now, Kona Now, etc) of walking tours showing what the area looks like at the time of filming - some are narrated walking tours some are music-only walking tours. Grateful my friends on Maui are safe. Sending prayers to Maui 🙏🏼
What a beautiful video! I’m going to Maui next February. I’ve been to Oahu twice. My goal is to go twice a year and eventually buy a condo so I can live there part time.
I wonder what will go in the old Bubba Gump space. Sure would love to see Ruth's Chris come back and take over that spot! Thank you for the video! Nice seeing people out and about on Front Street again.
I have Hawaiian blood from my grandmother she was a native Hawaiian I'm half cause my father was intalian from Italy he went to new York met my mother there I was born in New York along with my sister and two brothers my grandmother from Hawaii was also a entertainer in music I became an entertainer also 48 years I'm a local singer and guitarist
Hi thanks for the video .. I'll be taking Hawaii cruise April next year and will be stopping there for 2 days. Is the front street far away from he port?
It is! The port is typically Kahului and it's about a 45 minute drive to Lahaina town. Most cruise ships will offer shuttle services or a taxi works well too!
@@bocagoodtimes1460 Yeah, it was on Front and Papalaua. In the late 90s it had the Beatles' harpsichord from "All You Need is Love." Great fish sandwiches and live music. The Hard Rock and Lahaina FIsh Co. were my favorite restaurants there. The Kona Hard Rock closed too, and they moved the Honolulu one to Waikiki.
@@bocagoodtimes1460 yep. Maui n Aspen Colorado was the only 2 place that had a hard rock cafe n planet Hollywood with a relatively low population in the 90's 🤙
Nope! As long as you’re fully vaccinated with one of the approved vaccines (Pfizer, Moderna, J&J), you will only need to upload your vaccine card to the Safe Travels website.
I love Maui and other places in Hawaii but until the mask mandate is truly lifted we won’t be going back. Have opted to go to Alaska this year instead. We live in Vegas and masks aren’t required anywhere if you’ve been vaccinated.
Depending on where you’re staying. If you fly into Kahului (OGG), it’s about a 45 minute drive to Lahaina. Definitely would recommend for that plus the flexibility to explore.
I'm not sure how it is on Maui right now so I can't speak for it. I'm on Oahu & it's pretty mellow over here. The only recent protests I have seen is mask-related.
First off, thanks for this comment. It keeps me humble. This video was filmed with an old Go Pro Hero 7 which is really all I could afford for active filming. I’ve since upgraded to a Go Pro Hero 10. 🙏🏼 Mahalo!

those street, food, drink, sunset scenery in Lahaina…missing Maui so much. Been there in 2014..

I just got home from here about 3 weeks ago. The most beautiful place I have visited so far.
I miss it.
Lahaina is one of my favorites too! 🌺
I came here to see the Lahaina that was since the horrific fires.
Grateful for this time capsule video.

Definitely noticeable from last year.
No. Lahaina does not look like that now. Only memories and photographs remain.

The Longhi's on Front St. is closed. The one in Wailea is open!
@@YestoHawaii Thanks for the tip!
Nothing will go in the old Bubba Gump space since it now no longer exists, along with all the rest of Lahaina - as difficult as it is to believe that.
