Four things: While it's satisfying to have a huge grand battery of artillery in your lines, it's best to disperse the cannons in your lines to protect them from cavalry rushes as well as giving them better angles for shooting at different units. Secondly, spread your infantry so they are no more than 3 ranks deep to bring as many guns to bear on the enemy as possible. Third, when cavalry charges into your infantry, hit the square button and your units become like terminators against cav. Last, you don't have to start the battle with your artillery unpacked. You can get in astronomically better position by walking 50 feet past a little ridge and suddenly you have sightlines over most of the battlefield. You just have to pay attention to the microterrain.
Youre right but in all his games he seems to just sit back, wait for AI to move then counter it... In every fucking game, it's become soo boring to watch
Can somebody PLEASE tell him that infantry is practically useless in melee against cavalry unless in a square, in which case the infantry could take out a whole unit of cav with only 50 men. Its fucking painful watching him take unnecessary losses due to not pressing that square button.
He does it at empire total war too. I m closing my eyes while cavalry charging. He is watching them charging like dumbass. Also I wouldnt put all the artilery at one place, he should have put at least one infantry between them. Well too bad he doesnt give a shit about anything and its also recorded long ago so
What's the point to unnecessarily put your units into squares since the cavalry will die just for the musket fire of the line if there's only one unit charging. Total War is a fun game because you can use whatever tactics you want to win battles and don't have to do shit if you don't wan to. There's no right or wrong way to do things if the end result is what you're expecting. His artillery use is at times the most sketchy but who gives a shit.
@@anteroruponen The reason i was watching it to see if there is any better tactic to win the battles with fewer casualities. You are playing against bots ffs anyone can win these battles, important part is finishing it with minimum casualities. Well anyways now im watching player against player matches its more fun.
This is something outstanding! Three Prussian detachments are holding back your thirteen!! It's just brilliant. Why do we need infantry with guns at all, when you can hire an army of artillery and wait for the defending troops to go on the attack?))
i luv ur play style legend no matter what people say u r the best, i hv seen most of them but i like ur strategy, the way u optimize and win games with basic units not caring much abt high tier units is awesome. keep up the gud work buddy.
1. You should have an infantry unit placed right behind the artillery, so they can advance to block cav charge. 2. You should place the artillery line 20-30 meters behind the main infantryline, so closing enemy inf will be under fire before they can shoot your artillery. 3. End of line units should be in Square formation in order to prevent enemy cav flanking. If defending it is usually good to additionally make every fourth infantry unit stand in Square formation, if this does not hinder your tactics otherwise. 4. You should always fight urban battles, because it is easy to make killing fields between cluster of builings. Furthermore, the computer tactics and responses even worse inside the urban areas; it does not make a difference if AI is attacking or defending, you can easily manouver yourself a tactical numeric advantage. 5. Thanks for the vids!
good points, adding to that: 6. looting+occupy Berlin for the mission and 28k money, then offer Berlin in exchange for a territory you prefer and peace + trade + money. This could have been done from start, exchange territories that you cannot defend with ones you can, Prussia would nearly always take that deal. If you really want to weaken Prussia even further, you could demolish building and bring a revolt before making the deal, and thus make more money while leaving Prussia with a useless city and rebels to deal with. In the meanwhile you invest that money in the economy while hammering Austria before hitting Prussia 10 turns later and take Berlin again after they build it up again for you. 7. liberating also helps more then capturing on the border and keeps your existing allies loyal, they hate it when you capture too much land, that is why some would betray Prussia in the first place, they were expanding too much near them. (they fear they are next on the chopping block) 8. cavalry are very useful on the flanks when enemy is engaged with your line. You can rout them almost instantly with a good charge in the back while they are being shot from the front. 9. take the tech to shoot from the second line ASAP, it basically doubles your front line firepower and makes enemy cavalry charges from the front basically suicide. 10. Stretch your line to have 3 lines every unit to let most soldiers fire, this will extend your line at the expense of moral. Moral that will be gained back when you completely surround the enemy with less troop then him. (It works only after the cavalry has been take out because it is vulnerable to cavalry charges) 11. If you are going to charge your infantry use column formation, do not charge them as a thin line, your objective is not to make more damage at the expense of causalities but to rout them at minimal causalities for you. Use your cavalry to hit them from the back or another infantry unit, you would be surprised at the low losses sustained. Improvements about points: 2. it only works if your artillery is on higher ground, else you might hit your units and make them panic.(also giving headphones to the infantry in front of the cannons is advised :)) 3. End of the line units should be placed 20 meters behind the rest of the line to reduce damage taken from the main line or not take any at all. It might force the enemy to move too much forward and get flanked shot by the rest of your line. It also opens them to your own flanking maneuvers with your cavalry.(do not forget the square formation on when facing a line infantry or they will be massacred) Remember the longer the line the more damage output it has, a square is a very short line. Ideally you should leave them in line formation but some 30 meters behind your line and then switch them to square if enemy cavalry are close. Getting a shot on the cavalry before switching to square is ideal but requires more micro, that could be dedicated somewhere more important.
Wud love to se a darthmod napoleon Legend! Another thing, I know i have said before but, would love to see Divide et impera mod with the latest patch 1.2 i think. It feels very new and much harder. I know many here have said you will not do it, but it doesnt hurt to just make a wish :)

have you tried the mods for this game, darthmod for ex. it improves ai and many other aspects. just like medieval the mods are really the games at their peak potential.
What I don't like about the game is lack of AI interactions like for example. If you attack Duke Wels he'll send a message to you like for example : Duke Wel : ho, you're approaching? A totally defensive battle from the french side. All the risk was taken by the prussians. Too much depending on the artillery. The infantry never move from their initial positions in the battlefield. I can understand it if you are in inferior conditions. Boring.
I know you played this 6 years ago but dude this is awful like do you not understand tactics instead of complaining about the terrain and shit how about be flexible and adapt to the situation

In Darthmod Napoleon, you can have 40 unit armies Legend, just so you know.

play Rome 1 instead its better.
Just wondering if you considered playing this with darth mod, might be more enjoyable as far as battles
yeah darth mod makes this game 100x better as it tweaks the battle lengths balances a few cannons and even improves the shitty AI they coded slightly.

Yup they had spy balloons back then
Since terrain is a very bad problem in NTW I just use howitzers. They get more kills and don’t have to worry about terrain.

prussia is like austria 4902 armys here 568465 there 842375623526 armyies everywhere
these aren't true Prussians, the Prussia I know from Paradox games would not fall so easily to France's white flag technology.
You'reThatMantis But this is REVOLUTIONARY France.
which surrendered twice
thunder2.0 surrendered because of Napoleon's arrogance.
thunder2.0 plus Revolutionary France didn't surrender "just like that".
thunder2.0 plus they surrender after they have been beated by the superior number of the coalition army.
This game without Darth mod is really bad.
I mean, Darth mod is not changing the length of campaign, as DEI for example, it just enhances the game.
