  • Huge shout out to Lyle. Thank you so much for inviting me out to check out your setup. Being so young and being so level headed, Lyle has a bright future ahead of him. You can see the passion he has for heavy diesel. He knows where he’s headed, and it’s to the top of his field. Again, thank you so much for having me out there - it was a blast. Good luck to him and i hope he does well in the trade but i hope younger mechanics watching this video don't think they need to spend SOOO much money on Snap-On or other high end brand boxes let alone 2 boxes and a trolley. I'm a mechanic of 7 years and some how still using a 42" roll cab that i got when i first started.

    I would definitely recommend a 1/2 to 3/4 adapter for the Milwaukee 1/2 2767, I have both the Milwaukee 1/2 and 3/4 and find the 1/2 will get wheel bolts undone much faster than the 3/4 in the same scenario.
    But I do recommend having both the guns because it’s handy when you have an apprentice to lend them the 3/4 and you can get the 1/2 for doing a different wheel.
    Coming from a field service tech who doesn’t rely on air tools, Milwaukee is a godsend.
    I also bought the sawzall for a completely different reason, primarily I bought it for cutting through rubber drive tracks on tractors, but found myself using it for cutting bushes and bearings when I can’t fit an angle grinder or torch

    Nice set of tools, I just hope he didn't go into a lot of debt getting them. I might get castrated for saying this but in my opinion, for most young mechanics just starting out, there is nothing wrong with going with a cheap setup be it Harbor Freight, Craftsman, whatever to get the ball rolling. I have seen to many new guys go thousands into debt when just starting out and end up making the equivalent of a car payment for the next 10 years. Especially when many of them don't stay in the trade for long.

      Hard to speculate, but it’s tough to get into this field without accumulating atleast SOME debt. I always thought of it like school loans. I’m honestly surprised some one has Milwaukee sockets and just doesn’t bash them just because of their name etc etc. a lot of sockets and i mean a lot of brands have great sockets. Specially something like sunex and GP but yet people spring for the 2-3x more expensive snap on when they’re well known for being very very soft. I had my dealer told me the mushroomed socket must be broken in order to warranty the snap on socket if it’s just work out that’s just the “typical life span” of the socket as my snap on rep told me.
    Given a 1/2 drive socket set is 550.00 for ONE set and my father and my other co worker have snap on from years and years and years ago and they have broken but just worn right out yeah no thanks but snap on sockets not for me . Snap on makes stuff worth wild no doubt but price per chances of using the warranty and getting money from it sockets to me are a no thank you

    • @ToolBoxTour
      @ToolBoxTour  Рік тому

      Your snap-on rep lied to you. There is no such thing as “typical life span” of their tools in regards to their warranty. You can just call their warranty phone number and they will take care of you. It’s very easy and quick turn around. The reason snap-on tools are so expensive is not just because of their quality, but also the warranty. Either way, thanks for watching!

      Our education system has done a disservice to the country's youth by pushing college. I am in my 70s now and did go to college because I needed it to do what I wanted to do. But we had great vocational programs at my high school that served many well. Those seem to be disappearing.
      But I had no student debt to speak of either. Started college a year late to save some money, worked part time and even dropped out for a year and a half o work full time just so there was no debt when I was done. So I finished 2 years later than my high school mates, which is nothing years down the road.

      I suppose I have much less $ in my collection of tools but have more tools. But I didn't buy many off the tool trucks because I couldn't afford them. They just are not good enough for the price. I can buy most Knipex tools for almost half price of the tool truck at my local hardware store! I bought probably 40 knipex pliers, cutters, and such from the local hardware store last year. They gave me really good prices. I can also get good proto and wright tools and Klein and NWS and PI, Tiger tools, K&D and so many other tools that have served me well. Some of the tools i regret buying most are the Milwaukee hand tools. The 3/4" cornwell impact sockets were also a bad buy. Im not saying the cornwell impact sockets are junk, but I have found much cheaper sockets that are better. Often Its not hard to find out who makes the name brand tools and buy the same thing for cheaper. Like the very same identical Irwin and Matco tap and die set can be a couple hundred dollars difference in price.

    What a serious level of tooling for such a young man. I similarly bought quality tools starting at 16 but had nowhere near the amount of gear this guy has at the same age.
    Good look to him and hope he has a great career.

    I'm always surprised by how much Cornwell stuff is on this channel. I live in the most densely populated area of the USA and Snap On totally owns it. I haven't seen a Cornwell, Mac, or Matco truck since probably the 1990s!

      That's too bad, because they all make some very nice tools that are much more affordable than Snap-on. I loved my Mac Tech Series roll cab and my cornwell tool cart. Lots of Matco Silver Eagle tools, never had a problem with any of it using it all day every day.
