  • Coating hardness is the resistance of a coating to a mechanical force such as pressure, rubbing, or scratching. The pendulum damping tester is a laboratory measuring instrument with which the hardness of coatings can be determined precisely and reproducibly according to König or Persoz in compliance with the ASTM D4366 and ISO 1522 standards. The following pendulums are available for the pendulum hardness tester:
    - König: recommended for hard coatings
    - Persoz: recommended for soft coatings
How to measure the hardness of coatings using the damping method:
    Preparation:
Level instrument horizontally with bubble level and adjustable feet -- 0:32
Place pendulum into pins of the lift table -- 0:39
Insert wire release in either 6° for König or 12° for Persoz testing -- 0:48
    Perform the hardness test:
Place sample on lift table -- 1:00
Raise the lift table with the handle -- 1:09
Move pendulum in correct position and hold it with the wire release -- 1:13
Display of results: Seconds or number of oscillations -- 1:22
Automatic count stops when defined swing amplitude is too low -- 1:43
