Back when kpop was about singing and not about posing and brand deals. SNSD really set the standard, they are the only girl group capable of dancing to the hardest choreos in kpop AND sing live at the same time, hitting all the notes and rarely going off key. SM may be a questionable company due to their strict rules and way of training idols but it looks like they know what they are doing, especially when it comes to singing and dancing. Looks matter too but looks can be enhanced through surgery. People will remember you for what you brought to the table and not for what you looked like. Taeyeon is still popular because she is an amazing singer just like Yoona is still popular because she is charismatic, a good dancer and a solid actress besides being pretty. Nowadays you rarely see idols who are pretty AND bring something to the table. I was always impressed by how well Yoona, Yuri, Sooyoung and Hyoyeon could sing.
