The Giants Causeway

Welcome to Season 1 and Episode 2 of Candlelit Tales for kids. We tell stories and we make them with kids in mind. We focus on Irish myth and folktales and this story is the legend of how the Giant's Causeway was created. The Giants causeway is in Co. Armagh in the north of Ireland, and it's a beautiful sight to behold. It’s a huge pile of rock at the edge of the coast, near cliffs and beside the splashing sea… how these rocks got to be there, however, is open to debate.
Our story focuses on the legend Fionn, and his wife Oonagh. A giant from Scotland wanted to fight Fionn so he would be famous for beating him. He couldn't swim though… so he came across the sea from Scotland to Ireland using huge big rocks driven into the seafloor, and he walked across them till he came to Ireland. Fionn was terrified! He had to ask his wife for help to save his life. Oonagh was so clever and smart that the giant ran away back to Scotland, and when he did he threw the stones over his shoulder, because he was afraid Fionn might follow him, and when he did that, that's how the Giant’s Causeway was formed!
