Honestly, what I respect most about this man is, that he's probably one of the most in-touch-with-themselves person ever. He doesn't feel like he needs to explain his preferences or defend liking things others might call him out on (sewing, wearing uggs, etc.). This man is such a good role model for how to combat toxic masculinity. He just don't care if others think he's less of a man because he likes certain things, he knows that he doesn't have to prove himself to others, because he gets all the validation he needs from being at peace with himself. Really, this channel is what I fucking need in this pandemic and I love each and every person that is working to keep these videos up! Thanks Adam and the Tested team for being wholesome as fuck!
I couldn't agree more. I see a lot of myself in Adam when it comes to his specific curiosities and somewhat sporadic making. However I have always had a problem with self image/worth. I've been watching this channel almost daily for 2 years now and don't know how to thank him and the team enough. He has really taught me to be myself, especially throughout these troubling times. Enormous props to everyone at Tested and Adam for being the best role model I never knew I needed. Keep up the amazing work you guys(:
Adam doesn’t care just like men who you call toxic males don’t care what you think. Thanks for the comment. Ive been watching Adam for yrs. Not once did I question his masculinity. I like watching his videos. There’s nothing wrong with learning how to glue your shoes to fix them. He is trying to glue to different surfaces together. Something many would find difficult.

Aussie here and Adam has to be the first American I've seen wear uggs how you're supposed to. They're an indoor boot you wear around the house, NOT take them outside in winter!

As a former shoemaker (which nonsensically means shoe repair person as cobblers make shoes) I approve of this video. I used to glue soles in this exact way, either using a heat gun or an oven depending on circumstance. Same glue and everything. And yes it smells great.
My spouse had some cork sandals with a strap that came loose. It looked like it would be tricky to reattach properly. After looking at it for a minute I realized the best way to fix it, take it to the local cobbler.

I personally wear mahabis around the house. But I have to tip my hat to Ugg. My wife (who is Australian) really wanted to get our daughter a pair of Uggs while we were visiting Australia. She got her this kick ass navy blue pair with a cool stitching pattern. A few days later we had made our way to Argentina and as our Daughter was being carried one of the boots fell off. We immediately doubled back and tried to look for the missing boot but it was no where to be seen. I went back later to look again but nothing. At that point we had to just say it was missing but we kept the boot we had. A couple months later we tell the story to my father in law in Australia, he says “let me go ask the factory if they have a spare boot we can buy, it not far”. So he pops up to the factory and they don’t have anything left like that... but they ended up making a special one off right boot, for free no less.
It can be a real pain, you never know how the material will take a dye. If he was after a very particular shade/color then it's way easier to spend the time and effort to just buy one already that color. It would be different if he wanted black, or a dark brown or whatever but charcoal bluegray is a hard one.

One day, I hope my kids will watch this channel and find it just as insightful and fun :)
The sad thing about ugg boots was the family that designed, named and sold them for many decades here in Oz were suddenly sued about 10 yrs ago by a high end NY store for selling ugg boots which they had been doing before copyrights were a thing and this poor old family business was crushed by an army of lawyers and money just so the NY shop could be the only ones who could sell ugg boots. Sad story I think about every time I hear the name.
I’m a cobbler and I do this all the time. Another thing you can do is peal the sole back just a little bit further. This is because the glue that’s already there is likely going to wear out as well. Also after you let the glue sit for about 5 minutes you then put the upper back onto the sole. When gluing you’ll want to put as much on there you can. Then to get rid of the overflow glue (after it dries) you’ll take a piece of runner or an eraser and rub it off. Works like a charm.
I've actually had the glue take after being on a surface outside in the cold (but not exposed to direct sunlight) for weeks during autumn, joined that onto a freshly applied and dry (after like 10 minutes of air drying) surface, after like 2 or 3 years it's still holding up quite a bit of weight! Sometimes this glue is literal magic.
Growing up and living in the Northeastern United States for most of my life, Ugg boots were everywhere, and for good reason: they’re super warm and perfect for winter. Also in college crocs were the only shoes I ever wore in the communal showers. Anything else was way too slippery for me
I enjoy seeing your process, even for a relatively easy fix. I'm planning to make myself some new house boots for the cold months, but the grip fabric for the sole is quite thin, so first I need some foam or something to add, since I definitely want some thickness and cushioning
Hey Adam, next time you need a set of Ugg boots (an Aussie invention), the best place to buy them is Australia. They come in any colour including pink.

I like the one-shot style. When we're listening, we don't need low f stop depth of field close ups. We don't need cuts to different angles. There's a level of authenticity that a single shot gives that is lost on edited videos. This feels more intimate and genuine.

As an American, I do not know a single person who walks about their home with their shoes on. I'm not sure where this comes from or if, regionally speaking, we just aren't insane in Maine.
I’m a Minnesotan and it’s so rare to leave shoes on in the house. MAYBE if you have tile flooring everywhere? But home flooring here is generally carpet or hardwood and our outdoor shoes are rarely dry after coming inside! I remember wearing sandals inside the house in Arizona, though. Must be regional like another commenter suggested!
Mine come off at the door simply because I hate wearing shoes. I have slippers for in the house if I want them. Same with mom. Dad though practically lives in his shoes 🙄 Gramma's rule of no shoes was more accident prevention...because tile floors and wet shoes don't mix well.
Not everybody. Here in the Netherlands it varies from house to house. It's common to ask if you need to take of your shoes when you visit someone's house for the first time. Neither is particularly looked down on by the other.
He only wears them inside the house. IE they are a shoes off household, but he and the mrs living in a san fran building that probably getts chilly, wear those shoes in their house & only in the house. If they are leaving they change shoes. Anyone that wants to give him shade for the uggs should remember that he just repaired what most would throw away.
Very few people in the USA take showers with their shoes on, or go to bed with their shoes on. I don't know why taking shoes off in the home is such a source of continental pride, but if you need that type of validation so deperately, congratulations I guess.

Indeed. Also, channel-lock pliers work better when turned towards the lower jaw (similar to a pipe wrench).
Petroleum jelly on the treads, works and stops rusting together.
Nice tips with the Teflon and Petroleum Jelly suggestions.
Ugg slippers are amazing.
Never in my life have I met a man wearing uugs that I respect... until now
That says far more about you than anyone who wears uggs.
So he pops up to the factory and they don’t have anything left like that... but they ended up making a special one off right boot, for free no less.
excellent customer service is the way a brand gains long term customers. Thats a great story.
Actually quite surprised Adam didn't just simply dye a pair of lighter color size 15's!??
It can be a real pain, you never know how the material will take a dye. If he was after a very particular shade/color then it's way easier to spend the time and effort to just buy one already that color. It would be different if he wanted black, or a dark brown or whatever but charcoal bluegray is a hard one.
@@MordantMagic - Totally see your point/agree, though my faith in Adam's abilities, especially having watched every season of MythBusters (mostly) convinces me otherwise. All's good... more often than not, the simplest solution (providing one exists) is often the best solution :) Peace & Happy New Year!
@@MordantMagic Speaking from experience, Uggs with (I think I used Rit) black dye come out exactly like what he has.
Well if he did go for that option he probably could've got a men's size and not have to go up to 15 lol.
Uggs are the Crocks of the Boot world... the Moped of the Shoe world. The fast food of the fashion world. Good on you! I love my crocks!
Yessss! Thank you for telling me how to properly use cement glue!
It's like learning from the best dad ever. Thanks, dad!
I always fund it funny how he is not afraid to make a mess of his shop. Tossing nails on the floor, and also apparently wiping glue on his clothes.
Socks are legitimately my favorite Christmas gift.
I have a pair of house sandals that I wear exclusively inside, they're very comfortable and I dread the day that they give out on me.
Send them to adam😂
btw, just finished reading Every Tools a Hammer. Really enjoyed it! Thanks Adam for sharing that with us. I learnt a lot!
Many's a pair of shoes I've repaired with rubber cement. Or Gripfill.
rubber cement isn't good for this, because its really meant to be a 'semi-bond, so that you can still take it apart. What you really want is "contact cement"--- they are completely different.
@@calholli Yeah, but 99% of people call contact cement "rubber cement". We used rubber cement for layups for newspaper ads, pre-computer.
@@calholli The stuff I use is called Evostik 528. I assume it's the same as 'Barge' glue - it also smells deeply intoxicating.
Hi Adam, I'm Brazilian and a lot of your fan, I got you on Mythbusters and I discovered your channel for a while, man how many incredible videos are your fan 😊😁✌
Bahaha!!! I literally did this last year to my wife's uggs with e6000 and a couple clamps hahaha we even said "they are talking" lol
Adam is like the handy uncle who knows everything to me. I can watch him apply glue to a shoe and yet I still feel like I've learned 10 different bits of skill just from that (don't be too proud to use a vice to open a can, get the right tools, using a little stick to prop it open, edge to edge, etc...).
This is actually tool tip, first 4 minutes is Adam showing how effective the glue is
Adam enjoying Uggs and not caring what anybody thinks is the best thing ever.
The sound of that Teflon thwacker when Adam brought it out hitting the table was so satisfying.
Ugg boots. The second best contraceptive after crocks.
My podiatrist recommended me wearing Crocs for my specific foot type. I tried to only wear them on weekends and in the evenings.
Yeah, I imagine wearing nothing but Crocs would not be very sexy.
Nope, #1 goes to the clasic military general issue BCG - Birth Control Glases.
Growing up and living in the Northeastern United States for most of my life, Ugg boots were everywhere, and for good reason: they’re super warm and perfect for winter. Also in college crocs were the only shoes I ever wore in the communal showers. Anything else was way too slippery for me
Just looking like adam can make you sterile
I enjoy seeing your process, even for a relatively easy fix. I'm planning to make myself some new house boots for the cold months, but the grip fabric for the sole is quite thin, so first I need some foam or something to add, since I definitely want some thickness and cushioning
I live in Alaska and love my uggs.
Fanny pack and uggs? Mr. Savage your sense of style is impeccable!
Hey Adam, next time you need a set of Ugg boots (an Aussie invention), the best place to buy them is Australia. They come in any colour including pink.
Adam is the DIY version of Bob Ross - happy little Uggs.
I asked - _asked_ - for socks this Christmas.
Ha. Me too. Got 2 pairs of thick hiking socks
Right????
My wife got me Star Wars and Snoopy socks. They're great!
some years ago a friend asked for socks and got a new console (it as pretty cheap to be fair but still)
Oh my god I'm so glad I'm not the only one. My place is freezing and I hate having to do multiple loads of laundry in a week because I ran out of socks!
I like the one-shot style. When we're listening, we don't need low f stop depth of field close ups. We don't need cuts to different angles. There's a level of authenticity that a single shot gives that is lost on edited videos. This feels more intimate and genuine.
I use BARGE all the time here . Good stuff and I have yet to have it fail .
Look at him geeking at a pair of comfy boots. Can relate. :-P
Our Prop shop in the theater is down the hall from Wardrobe. We always know when they’re doing shoe repair because the smell of barge comes floating down the hall. I love the smell of barge in the morning.
ADAM: "I call this the, 'Steve Jobs: Midwest Mom' look."
Today, as of 9:19 AM, 13,024 people have watched Adam rebuild his boot. And we are happy. lol
Didn't know adam was secretly a blond teenage girl at Starbucks 😂
Innit though... Lady boots 🤠
Cheerleading t-shirt in the southern US in april, with those short soffe shorts and a pair of uggs. Whip cream a mile high. You want some coffee with that drink Ashlynn? Sore or cold feet can be miserable, so use whatever makes your feet happy, Adam. Contact cement has fixed a lot of shoes over the years. Great stuff.
YES! Adam you go and tell them boys can wear ugg boots too
No, uggs are for girls but he lives in tbe city so he might get away with it.
YES Smartwool socks! Always the best. I keep a brand new pack of socks in my closet for when i'm having a bad day, I can slip on a brand new fresh pair of never worn socks, and it makes it a little bit better.
Ok so the glue is “Barge Contact Cement”? Is that correct? Looks like a good shoe glue !
Yeah!
It is one of the two contact cements that are standard in shoe repair shops. I forget the name of the other one.
@@ElliotNesterman in Europe it is Kövulfix, AFAIK.
@@ElliotNesterman Masters is probably the most popular. Barge is thought of as a consumer brand but works just fine. We use Renia Colle de Cologne because it's less toxic.
@@pastagandalf thanks 😉the soles are hard to find I think
I honestly enjoy hearing you talk about the movies you helped do
Adam clearly loves solvents and their scents haha, only periodically of course and not in secret.
You learn to love a lot of weird and slightly dangerous smells as a maker. I love the smell of solder, linseed oil, lacquer, and paint.
No evidence a repair was ever made... Except this amazingly awesome, truly candid UA-cam video!
😂
The second most undignified thing a man can do, is walk with a flapping shoe sole.
(The first, is chasing a run-away hat in the wind)
Haha! Interesting. Where'd you hear/read this?
@@gustavofigueiredo1798 It was years ago and was from a comedy guy, possibly W.C. Fields, or maybe Abbot & Costello?
Not sure why I watched 12 minutes of Adam repairing his boot, but I sure enjoyed it!
Uggs actually makes mens slippers, My dad has owned two pairs over the last 10 years. they are really nice, the same inside but a more substantial sole.
Was wearing some of my favorite Smart Wool socks as I watched this. I also like Darn Tough wool socks. I'm wearing my LL Bean Wicked Good Slippers, which are very similar to Ugg slippers. So comfy in a cool house! Thanks for the ideas for shoe repair. I have some shoes I wear for gardening where the sole is coming off. I may need to find this contact cement for them!
I wear Ugg’s. Them aussies know how to make a good boot. Although I don’t think they should be worn around the shop. Steel toe Ugg’s is a terribly great idea tho.
Uggs are NOT Australian. They are a counterfeit American product. Real Uggs are made in Australia but cannot be called Uggs as they have for a 100 years because that American company trademarked the name to make their rippoffs.
@@kidShibuya - Then what are they called?
@@johnnyjohnson6643 They're called Uggs though we don't have an Ugg brand that I'm aware of. Ugg here is a generic term for the style. Ugg branded boots in the US are made in China and as you can see fall apart in 6 months. Buy Australian made from Australian sheepskin (I'll allow New Zealand substitutes) if you want the real thing.
@@kidShibuya The Ugg naming trademark in the United States and other countries can't be enforced here in Australia because it's a generic term. Only their UGG logo is trademarked here.
Darn tough socks. I worked in the outdoor industry for years. They are the highest quality and have a lifetime warranty that they stand by. Tactical ones are best for day to day. Also I am a Letter Carrier, so I know about foot comfort.
I came here to judge Adam's wear of Uggs, but as slippers that makes total sense. As I dog owner, I understand the need for slipper with a sole, bc those cute critters bring in water, mud, etc. you don't want to get on your feet!
don't get me wrong... I love One Day Builds, but I could watch Adam fix things forever.
Adam is officially a basic white girl 🤣

Just a tip from someone who had opened hundreds of cans of stuck pvc glue. Make sure your channel locks are facing the way you are turning the lid. The teeth only want to bite in that direction. Love the videos keep it up!
When my adult “children” ask me for a Christmas list, it is exactly one item long: “socks.”
Tv is so bad here in NL that I'm coming to love Adam and my few other UA-cam subs that I really can't wait for a post. Thanks for that Adam👍 Uggs though!!!!
I’m wearing UGGs as I watch this.
Adam glues a boot. Now this is the sort of premium content I come to UA-cam for :D
Americans not removing their shoes in the house, and Adam talking like he's weird for *not* doing that, is crazy to me.
As an American, I do not know a single person who walks about their home with their shoes on. I'm not sure where this comes from or if, regionally speaking, we just aren't insane in Maine.
@@BlutigeTranen I'm from Kansas, and I only know like one person who takes their shoes off in the house. It must be a regional thing.
Dad though practically lives in his shoes 🙄
Gramma's rule of no shoes was more accident prevention...because tile floors and wet shoes don't mix well.
I've worn out 3 pairs and working on my 4th pair of uggs. Love them.
He lives in San Fransisco, wears a JusticeNerd shirt and calls his wife his partner, of course he wears Uggs.
Adam you should do a casual repair series of videos out of everyone on this planet I trust you on all things handcrafted
In Europe everybody takes off their shoes in home
Who in their right mind wears shoes inside. Absolutely disgusting
Not everybody. Here in the Netherlands it varies from house to house. It's common to ask if you need to take of your shoes when you visit someone's house for the first time. Neither is particularly looked down on by the other.
@@RedmarKerkhof Same here in Germany, at least the part where i come from (the southwest).
As soon as he started painting the glue on, I was feeling a Bob Ross "happy little tree" kind of a thing.
I got that because when he started he got a somber tone
After a few minutes of brushing the glue on he wasn't feeling a thing.
