    As a temporary emergency repair, i was stuck in the woods and needed 4 WD. Pulled battery and removed cable from actuator, pulled on cable and held it out with a pair of vice grips, got out of the ditch, went home found your vid and got the repair done. thanks!

      @AWLs7 that's cool you did that not cool you had to do it. I swapped my personal blazer over to a lever and ran cable into driver area. The new vacuum diaphragms kept busting. Make sure you carry a spare and thanks for watching and subscribing to my channel. There are other blazer videos in my playlists titled "Blazer"

      Don't see why not just don't forget to un do it if you shift out of 4WD.

    Replacing the lines & the 4WD Vacuum Switch “should” cure a high idle & a harsh shifting as well; is what I was told? Correct?
    Awesome video! Very helpful, thanks 🤘🏻

      Yes vacuum hose(s) cause high idle as well as throttle body and upper intake plenum gaskets. Does your 4x4 work when you push the button

    G'evening & Great job ☕☕ 🤠 . I've been turning wrenches for 20+ yrs myself. However I bought my first S10. A 98' Blazer 4Dr 4wd & I really appreciate the refresher course on the vacuum 4wd system. It may be 70's AMC Jeep tech but when it works right it's great 🙃🙃 ..

      Where at exactly on the actuator does the vacuum go because on mine there was just the screw in cable?

    • @idletime
      @idletime 5 місяців тому

      @@stevenengland9832
      On my 98 Blazer the actuator is underneath the battery tray in the front passenger corner. Rather than trying to take the three little machine screws that hold the actuator to the bracket, there are two bolts that hold the bracket in place and you can take the nuts off the bolts that hold the bracket in place from inside the wheel well right in front of the tire. The cable hooks to the actuator and there's also a vacuum line that plugs into the actuator as well that should have been right by the actuator can. I haven't traced the whole system out as of yet but the cable runs down to the differential on the front axle to engage and disengage it. And vacuum line should run from the actuator canister down the passenger fender to the firewall and across and down to the vacuum actuator switch on the transfer case. There should be three vacuum lines on the vacuum actuator switch on the transfer case. One should go to the actuator canister under the battery tray. Another one should go to the push button in the dash for the four-wheel drive and I think the third one should go to engine vacuum probably on the intake manifold or possibly the throttle body. You can replace the old style rubber vacuum lines with the newer high temperature silicone vacuum hoses and you'll be glad you did. I hope this helps and I found quite a few videos on UA-cam about it

    I have a couple questions that i wish i could get your imut on but id like to say good job on the video and breaking it down first of all. But so I have been fighting a 94 s10 that has only the 4hi - 4lo push button switch located on the left side of the instrument panel... never have I ever had a problem with the 4 wheel drive until... boom... when needed all that would happen is you would hear the transfer case acting like it wants to engage but then would.just stay in 2wd. After watching your video... sure as hell, that switch was sticking and fluid came draing out of all the lines.. I bought all new lines and switch and also diaphragm ( that was torn as well) and checked the cable that goes to the axle and it was freed up but im wondering if its not kinked somewhere ( im going to look into that yet tonight and hope thays it. But with all that switched out it still did the same thing, so my other question is the 3 way check valve that splices in with the vacuum from the air Intake? Or can I bypass them? I've looked through the entire Chiltons book and couldn't find anything ( or I didn't understand something) thank you for your time, I will update asap

    • @ZaganStoanes
      @ZaganStoanes 2 роки тому +1

      It's possible that the little clip inside of the axle itself is broken. I had that happen on my 86 s10. Cable would move but wouldn't activate the gear in the axle.

    Like the video. A question though. Is your diagram a view at the end of the collector lug where all the hoses connect or looking at the top of the vacuum switch? Because these two views would be a mirror image of one another about a vertical line and I just want to be sure. Thanks for any clarification you can provide.

    • @jimsale9824
      @jimsale9824 Рік тому +1

      In my case I’m thinking it’s a mirror because my lines aren’t lining up with what he’s saying. Then again I’m working on a 92 s10 rather than the later models like he explained in the video

    • @RubberSideDown2
      @RubberSideDown2 Рік тому

      @Jim Sale yep mine are mirrored to this diagram. 89 s10 blazer. So looking down at the switch. Pin center and away from you. Its actuator towards you. Vent upper right, engine upper left. When I did it his way I had vacuum in 2wd and nothing in 4wd.

      Did any of you all put an o-ring on the bottom of threads on your new transfer case switch or did you just screw it on and hook it up?

    • @southerner66
      @southerner66 11 місяців тому

      The video is incorrect. The diagram is correct looking into the end of the vacuum hoses, not looking down onto the top of the switch.

    • @dragsterstransmissions

      @Jimmy Hamm start with the vacuum related components first. Such as the hoses themselves probably should replace the hoses. I got another video in my playlists titled blazer repairs. Also check transfer case fluid level by removing top plug in back of case.. if fluid gush out you will have to replace front seal in case.. Keep me posted on your progress
