- Atlantan rifflords Mastodon arrived at Kerrang!’s favourite dive bar with just one thing on their minds: crush, kill, destroy. A packed out, 50-capacity Blondies bar in London waited with baited breath for The ‘Don to deliver the goods, and ooooh boy, did they!
Joined by friend and Neurosis frontman Scott Kelly on lead vocals, the progressive-metal four-piece doled out 30-minutes of heavyweight riffs and sonic punches that left our innards quivering. You can watch it in all its glory now. And you better believe there’s much more to come from The K! Pit.

Brent Hinds has got to be the most versatile guitar player of all time. Rockabilly, Doom, Thrashy, Blues, hes got everything.
He's the only player I've ever seen that truly reminds me of Eddie Van Halen. Everything he does is flawless, looks effortless, doesn't overplay during solos, and their rhythm playing is as good as Malcolm Young, Keith Richards, or James Hetfield. All those 80's shredders that tried ripping off Eddie were mostly shit at rhythm and songwriting and were just good at playing solos that now just seem lame and dated.

I agree. I just saw them play in October after not seeing them live since the Blood Mountain tour. Their live performance has got so much better & the new album is amazing. Brent Hinds is for sure my favorite living guitarist.

Mastodon and Gojira are two bands that I listen to and absolutely enjoy every song without exception. I can hear from the first song of the first album to the last song of the last album without skipping any tracks. I love and i think these 2 are the best bands of rock/metal of 2000/10 decades.

@@stepitupandgo67 because when they were younger it was mainly just super harsh shit and was secondary to the music they were playing, now their is an equal focus between the music and the vocals and they’ve all made it a big priority to improve and it’s really paying off. Diamond Of The Witch House was always a tune that eluded me. I couldn't figure out the emotion it hit me with. Every time I watch this set, that song demolishes me like TRUCK. It's gotta be one of the top 10 Mastodon tunes ever. Masterpiece.

On the European Tour 2017 they had him on a lot of shows, if not most of them. And they played every song they recorded together, IIRC. It was the best set list I could imagine. The only thing that could have made it better would have been if they played Toe to Toe.
I saw them in Brixton in January, presumably shortly before or shortly after this was filmed. They played these songs as the last 7 of the set, all with Scott. Best gig I've ever been to, it was absolutely mind blowing.

Mastodon's performances in small sweaty and gritty club setting will always be miles better than their big arena ones, and i don't see any problem with that.
r mardiantor I saw Mastodon for my first time with Opeth and Ghost in a shitty little club under an overpass in Grand Rapids Michigan. Best concert I’ll probably ever go to. This was before Ghost got big, they were still wearing the hoods.

I have never seen Mastodon live but when I see them live on UA-cam I feel that during their larger venue performances, they lose a lot of clarity in the songs. I find them hard to hear, if that makes sense?
Jesus Christ this thing is mixed better than most studio albums. It's awesome to see Scott Kelly doing all these songs live.
Scott Kelly's presence in this is so enthrancing , yet so menacing. Even when he doesn't sing he makes the whole performance incredibly more punishing. One of the most amazing artistical minds music has given us.

He was cool on the relapse records contamination tour in 2003 when they first started and had no fans but after remission got big he got to be more like his true self, self absorbed and shitty to fans, then leviathan, then blood mountain and into crack the skye, dude just turned into a prick vs the rest of the band!
The only unledgibal signature on the poster done on the bus when my boy was the tour bus driver is Troy, "I'm too good for this" Sanders. You can read Brann, Bill, and Brent's signatures, but Troy can give two fucks less because he is a superstar!
His brother Darren was way cooler than him, and he was just the tour manager.
The only way Troy is cool with fans being around him is you bring him free coke!

JARBOE...) was the first band i Ever see in my life... i was 14 and it was at the forum, in London... unforgetable. .. thk To my closest friends and soul brother Pierre to give to me this experience and this gift.. SINCE, ive see neurosis for... ten times. .. When they are in Europe, ill see them every time and every date they come in Europe !

One of Mastodon's best sets. One of Scott Kelly's best performances. Just one of the best from beginning to end. I can't count how many times I've watched/listened to this. What a great mix. Love all you boys.
This and their set from Roskilde 2011 are the pinnacle of their live performances, just fuckin incredible shows. Scott absolutely rips in this one and the set list is obviously awesome, the Roskilde show has a great set list too. I’ve also watch this and the Roskilde one so many times. They never get old.

The last few minutes of that song is one of the best sections of any mastodon song ever. Brann just spazzing on the drums and Scott screaming his ass off. So damn happy we have this recording of the song.

Of course they sound amazing with Scott, Scott is great and they’ve all been super good friends for a very long time, he’s performed a ton with them over the years. That’s why he does vocals on pretty much 1 song on every album, then when they’re together for a show they will bring out Scott to perform some of the songs they did together. They’re a perfect combo together, honestly makes me wish Scott joined the band official. He’s basically the unofficial 5th member, can’t wait for the new album later this month, I’m gonna assume Scott does vocals on 1 song so that will prob be dope

It's like Scott just waltzed out of recording Times of Grace and then did this immediately after. Such a fucking intense performance, goddamn!
The final part of aqua dementia. Still one of my favourite parts after all these years ! And with Kelly it's even louder ! Brent guitar sound is one of the best I've heard live, his sound is aging well !
