- I made this video myself, it's a tribute to one of Anthony Perkins best performances ever in the movie Fear Strikes Out. The true story of Jim Piersall, a 1950s ball player who was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and institutionalized for a brief period in his career.
Oh my. Need to see this movie now!! Perkins. Pure talent.
Wonderful Tony!
He was a brilliant actor. R.I.P.
He should have gotten an award for his acting in this movie! Incredible!

I agree
I love tony
underrated performance!
Real fast to clear something up: The reason Anthony Perkins throws/bats so awkwardly is he is really left handed. He had to learn how to throw/bat with his right side to portray Jimmy. So, yes, it will be awkward.
At this point who cares about Perkins' throwing? His acting is superb! I remember watching this with my dad, I'd love to watch this movie again.
That is so disgustingly sad. Poor Tony :'(
In case anyone is curious, Tony Perkins co-star is Norma Moore. She was Wilbur's wife in early years of Mr. Ed.
Come hanno fatto a non dare mai un Oscar ad Anthony Perkins?
Italian: How did they never give an Oscar to Anthony Perkins?
Buona domanda. (Good question)
Ran the bases facing backwards when he hit his 100th home run. He was a Met at the time. Man, I wish they had footage of that.
Next day commissioner Frick made new rule: no more running bases backwards lol. Wtg, Jim!
Karl Malden is great too.One of the best baseball movies
Umpire calls strike 3(bad call) on Jimmy..He slowly turns to him without saying a word...reaches into his back pocket and pulls out a squirt gun then points it at the ump. He faints. Nobody knrw what to do for a few moments. Always kept them guessing. Miss you Jim...one of a kind.
Talento .... Nel passato Montgmery Clift e lui i migliori ... Poi arrivato Kinsky ha superato le logiche umane
it would have been much better without the LOUD piano music; it over powered the dialog
You're right. Now in the movie the music was an important part of the emotional journey.
I think he was more dramatic in this as opposed to Pycho, Pretty Poison or Tin Star
Perkins was perfect for exacting the dramatic aspect of the film, but I think they should've had someone that was more athletically-inclined - he can't throw a ball for shit! That irritation aside, good film.
Just Say NOOOOO !
This movie is from 1957, but Piersall want on the play until 1967 and continued to do some wacky things after 1957.
I was a youth in cleveland when he played for the Tribe....yikes, did he 'fly off the handle' of last home game of '58 season; saw the movie later, so I learned the truth.....jn
He didn't come to Cleveland until 12/8/58 to start the 1959 season. In 1961 he batted .322 but placed 3rd for AL batting crown then traded to the Senators 10/5/61.
Although AL Kaline was #2 with a .344 ba, Norm Cash won with a .361 ba. In the off season Norm proudly boasts in Boy's Life magazine "How to Cork Your Bat like the big leaguers!" Wtf? Fast forward 35 years and Albert Belle is headlining "Batgate".
2 years later in 1963 the commissioner bans running the bases backwards lol.
Non l'hanno dato nemmeno alla Hepburn Audrey intendo
Like what?
Jimmy Piersall should have sued the casting director. Perkins threw a ball and swung the bat like a 10 yo girl. His believability as a ML ballplayer was laughable.
He was an actor. The film focused on the emotional side of the situation.
Sorry but he threw like a girl and looked very uncomfortable at the plate, oh well.
some say the actual tony perkins was a little bit of a lunatic...
