I just took delivery of mine. The front end grew on me fast and at first I didnt like it. It is the nicest suv i have ever owned or driven. Came out of a 2020 X5 to the 2023 X7. Excellent car and super fun to drive. Very quiet inside as well.
I don't see myself needing a 7 seater as I don't have a family (I'll upgrade my M550i to an X6M next year) but I know two people who hated the X7 LCI before buying but were the first in line to order them and they are now enamored with them. I love the new design of the X7, 7 series, and the 4 series. Unfortunately, BMW isn't stepping back so once all vehicles get a face lift going into 2024, it'll be easier for people to digest. Regardless, BMW is still going to make, and probably break, sales numbers despite opinions on aesthetics.
Hello Joe, heres the solution for the software glitches in iDrive 7/8: Just press and hold down the volume button for 30s on a standstill with the engine running. It will restart the Headunit and after that everything should work as expected afterwards. Best regards from a BMW Genius! Keep up the good work!
The more I see this, the more I love the look of the pre-LCI model, the split headlights are just odd. Also, why they call it a M60 is beyond me, very messy messaging from BMW’s branding stand point. But the updated engine is legendary.
Your honest, straight forward and non show-boated reviewing must honestly be the best out there👍🏻 It's like asking a friend you can trust, what he/she thinks of the car, and that makes it so different from other reviewers👍🏻 Thanks for all your time and effort, and love for what you do Joe.
Excellent review! I own the m60i and I agree with the drivetrain: compared to the pre-lci the ZF is not as responsive anymore especially during downshifts. On my pre-lci, I used to engine break all the time, especially in the winter, but as you mentioned the mapping with the hybrid setup is weird so it won’t decelerate much anymore. The other surprising thing that you also mentioned is the lack of initial throttle response in comfort mode. It seems the 48v hybrid is not kicking in as powerful and the auto stop start button is gone causing further delay unless in sport mode. Otherwise, the driving dynamics in curves and general power completely make up for those aforementioned relatively minute drawbacks. Merged with its practicality and comfort def best in class for the price. GLS and RR don’t even come close in regards to driving dynamics if that’s important to you and those can get pricier than the Beamer.
Totally agree about the M brand being diluted. Biggest annoyance of mine is that my base G80 M3 doesn’t have the M embroidered seat belts but it comes in the M340i.
Will receive mine 3rd week January 2023 in Manhattan Metallic with full options. Actually I ordered back in beginning November. Right now car has been build and on its way to Europe.
Thanks for the video Joe. I’m excited for the delivery of our X7 arriving tomorrow, not an M60i though, an XDrive40i, I think the inline 6 is more than enough for this car. The design is certainly controversial, I’m not a fan of it but for a 7 seater family vehicle I don’t really care.
Thanks for watching! Agreed, design is marmite, but as a luxury 7 seater, it's an incredible machine! Bet the 40i makes more sense 90% of the time too 👌 Enjoy!
Cranking out the vids even in god awful freezing weather. You are a hard working man, Joe. No doubt I'll be in a small minority, but don't mind the split headlights look. I think it works better on the X7 (being a taller vehicle) than the new 7 series. But I definitely agree that there are just too many 'M' badges on the vehicle. It really detracts from the specialness of the whole 'M' ethos, imo.
I "only" have a 72 G05 X5 30d, but I had also a 69 and I now also have the weird 'hesitation' on the throttle -- it's mostly due to the mild hybrid system I'm sure, as my 19 didn't have it and was bang on -- the 72 version always tries to 'guess' what you are trying to do. One thing I particularly dislike is that I can no longer downshift by blipping the throttle when cruising. It used to work pretty much exactly like a manual gearbox and allowed you fantastic driving on country road, as you could downshift before bends etc (without using the paddles). Now you have to 'trust' the mild hybrid system to do it, and it *always* does it wrong. Also, when you mention the capabilities of the car on twisty roads, you might have have the Active Steering system that allows rear wheel to turn a few degrees. I didn't have that on my 69, and always regretted it -- I now have it on my 72 and OMG the difference it makes! Feels like I'm driving a Polo now, it is absolutely insanely cool how nimble it feels to drive such a huge car (the G05 is *still* a big car! :-))
As always, a fantastic review Joe! I would have to agree with your opinion on the design of the new X7. I was going to buy an X7 M50i as my next car until BMW did that repulsive facelift. BMW management and their head designer Domagoj Dukec have gone off on a destructive tangent in terms of looks on most of the new BMW line-up.
Joe you really love the s58 which I don’t blame you bmw done a great job making s58 and b58 I think its the best option you can choose now, powerful, reliable and efficient.
Love the looks and especially those double headlights. This car has so much presence and stature, combined with performance and luxury. Not a fan the colour, it looks better in white, light grey or all black imo. Great SUV all the same and excellent value too.
Been a year since we lost the legend Dave King. I know you and Tony TRL knew him well. Hope you and Tony (if you're in touch with him) are doing OK. Pretty much any BMW vid reminds me of him.
2.7 Tonnes! I hope I'm not in anything that gets hit by this monster.......I really struggle with BMW's design language these days. The interiors are lovely to look at at, but even then, they're a little bit 'form over function' considering how brilliant they've been in the past. No comment on the exterior........😕 Good comprehensive review, as always, Joe.
Love the new design language the split headlight design looks so different & fresh compared to its peers. Espescially new Range rover which is equally challenging in my opinion.
Excellent video as always as well as a very impressive piece of kit! My only concern is the lack of noise! I know that’s a given these days with the tighter noise emissions. Do you think it’s quiet and muted just because it’s in a luxury car? Or will it be just as muted when it’s filtered into other cars such as the M5? 😮
I like the styling on this one, I don't like the 7 series regular ICE or electric looks, but on this SUV the split lights fit because it's so big. I would de-badge the M logo and all designations, just keep the BMW badge, probably blacked out.
I thinks car companies should pole previous owners to see which new shape (front & back) they would like to go into production for their next generation vehicles. I actually like the new headlights being smaller/narrower to help offset the big grille.
Totally agree with you on where is BMW going with its M cars. I looked at the BMW configurator and that just makes it all the more confusing - under the "M" section you can configure under 4 series M coupe models an M4 Coupe or indeed a M440D - so fine the M lights are in here too - but hang on there is no M135i available to configure there (you find that in ordinary 1 series) and under 2 series Coupe models you can configure an M2 but not an M2401 so I don't think even BMW knows what an M car is or isn't.
Fantastic review video sir! I love all the true honest opinions you mention about the details. We have a 2019 and love it. Wanted to upgrade to the 2023, but that front end just looks odd. So we are sticking to the 2019 for now.
I have had both the Pre LCI and the LCI that I own now. I truly like the LCI front end design . The comfort and the tech Is way better then the 2022 model. The 2022 felt really outdated in every aspect.
Thank you for being honest about the front with splitheadlights. A lot of social media influencers out here making seem like it's a classic when it's not at all.
I really like the quality of your video, the detailed explanation u give is very nice But U need to get a new microphone to record your voice in high quality. Thank you sir
When was the last BMW reviewed - by anyone - where awkward, bad or controversial styling wasn’t the elephant in the room? BMW seem to have taken the view that there’s no such thing as bad publicity and that the only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about. I hope they love this new look in China because in Europe and the US, I’m not sure it’s winning as many new fans as it’s alienating old ones. Nice review, though. Real World and comprehensive.
Hi Joe, Hope you are keeping well. As you have driven and reviewed SQ7 as well, which one you :- a) personally felt is a better overall 7 seater to drive? b) no doubt X7 is more spacious, but is it practically better as well? c) SQ7 timings on 0-60 were slightly better than X7 M60i, but not sure which one will stand out if they compete against each other for 1/4 mile drag race :) Thanks!
M has definitely been overused in the last decade. We have a x7 m50i now at the end of the lease and looked at all of the other options and just ordered a '24 x7 m60i. The only thing we were interested in was the Range Rover, but with a >1 year wait list and the continued issues, it was an easy answer. We looked at the XM, which does look amazing, but we really need the 3 rows, but that does look like an amazing car. Regarding the M, now that BMW owns Alpina, I think that may be the new exclusive. I drive a '20 Alpina B7 and it truly is an odd and rare car to see in the US and people stop me all of the time to ask about it. And when you are spending the money for something that is rare and unique and special, that's what makes it fun...
Love the design of the big grills on the x7🤩!! It definitely suits the size and design of the car. If the grills are small the x7 would look idiotic… Cadillac, rolls Royce, Bentley all have big grills!! Even Lexus has big grills 😧 and you guys complaining about the size on the x7 🙄
I Prep BMWs Joe & these are insane to drive.... something this big & heavy just should not handle this well .... ! Done 2 recently for well-known sports people who shall remain nameless . As for the new split lights, I like it, I think it looks sharp 👌🏻
Love your views on car things Joe, thanks for the video! What do you think about the new 40d? Maybe you can get your hands on it in the new G70 7 series.
Great review Joe. One question in regards to how you capture the sound in cabin and if you lock exposure on your GoPros or leave them in auto? Thank you
Love this car and it’s presence The x7 m50i was a brute but this is just even more special Much prefer this over my dads 21 GLS, that’s a bit of a disappointment especially for a flagship Mercedes suv
We have a 21 X7 m50 and the gas is all or nothing. You do get used to it but not in 5-6 days, more like 3-4 months. We also have a 19 X5 50i that has the same characteristics. You eventually drive around it.
I actually find it easier to drive in sport because it isn't all or nothing. You know that no matter what, if you touch the gas, you're getting the power.
Thank you for the factually good report 👍and as far as the new iDrve is concerned, I see it the same way, you are overwhelmed at the beginning, even if you always drive the latest BMWs, a different platform and system, and the favorites buttons are missing, unfortunately. Second comment, iDrive8 is a mixed bag. We have the new X1 in Australia and it’s buggy and WITHOUT THE CONTROLLER. BMW ConnectedDrive is hideous to set up if moving country. This is a big miss. Coming from a G01 X3 in the UK, its a step back in my view.
Nice work, Joe 👍 These are almost wagon wheels 😆 but what a seriously good blend of beauty and the beast. It shouldn't need it, but if available for this transmission... an xHP flash tune would help those take-offs and shifts.
Great video!! I had a 3 series as a rental car with the same infotainment and I agree with you that it is confusing. BMW are known for having the best satnav compared to rivals but they have changed it for the worst😕
As a prior owner of an X5 & a Range Rover Sport I appreciate larger prestige metal. The front end on this looks hideous to my eyes. The badging questionable.....I appreciate this has a decent lump under bonnet BUT I am not a vanity image badging....tacky IMO. How much bhp does the x7 m60i have? Cause doesnt the m50i have 523bhp? I was searching both apprently the m60i has 7 more bhp, should be at least 600hp? Jumping from a 50i to a 60i, doesnt make sense
Love the individual exterior touch❤️

Whyyy didn't BMW give this engine to the 7 series sedan in the EU

Cheers buddy, certainly harder to film in this climate! I totally respect it's looks are marmite, I might change my mind in 6 months ;-)
did you not see every seat is heated haha. sure it makes it all a little easier! :)
What a beast. A little over the top in looks and price wise.
Brooklyn Grey with Black wheels changes the look of these for the better.

13:38 School boy error on coffee cup position for launch :) Great video again Joe!
I love the headlights
Hated it at the beginning
But now I'm obsessed with it 😂
an interior without buttons is like having 63x with yourself, gets the job done but it's not quite the same :)))))

Exactly, grey with black details would look sick. In a few years this might become my family car :)
@@drunkenwhiskeyeu Mine too
Nice I love how they styled it based on a shopping trolley.
Got to agree with you on the styling of this and the 7 series 🤮😎

Your reviews are soo good!
Not sure why but i really like this car lol
I agree with you that the front is the most fugly thing since Chris Bangle was given a desk in the design office
Joe. Nice presentation. Blue over cream , nice. I can see your valid gripes on strange material vents and grill choice.
The plastic above the end air vents " on camera atleast" looks like the sort of plastic that an airfix model would use.
The facelift is amazing.
Yes a very big car, your right it does look ugly from the front, but a good family car+ it must be a great tow car. Cheers Joe. Darren

Bowers & Wilkins Mind blowing i would not say, just a higher standard audio, but nothing in Compare to Burmester

I think the 0 to 60 times may be generally done on a full load all seats occupied probably why Conservative
Good luck parking this anywhere in UK
Hey Joe what you use in phone dragy for 0-60 what name is any link.
I agree with that new face, every time I look at the light configuration, feels like I am seeing double and want to rub my eyes!!
Didn't think I would find myself saying this; I don't hate the way that looks at all.
I personally like the look of this car.
Great review Joe. One question in regards to how you capture the sound in cabin and if you lock exposure on your GoPros or leave them in auto? Thank you
Great Video Joe. Is it worth the upgrade from 2019 to 2022? Still Love my 2019. Peter.

With iDtive8 I know you can now have Apple maps on the driver display but does waze also work there? Thanks
Car manufacturers have been forcing unnecessary changes on us lately but splitting the headlights is beyond me🙆🏾♂️
Don’t you have asphalt roads in the UK? 🤔
Thank you for the factually good report 👍and as far as the new iDrve is concerned, I see it the same way, you are overwhelmed at the beginning, even if you always drive the latest BMWs, a different platform and system, and the favorites buttons are missing, unfortunately.
Anyway, I'll get mine in October.
The most funny thing is that Joe drives the exact same roads as Harry, the UK must be a rather small country lol 😂
The interior is just beautiful!
Think the Low down fast pull aways is overly sensitive throttle response or the big low torque eager to pull?
100% agree re design!!
Good review. Thanks. For my part I rather like the front end with new headlight design.
@OfficiallyJoeAchilles I get a prize? Wow! Happy Christmas 🙃
Finally BMW make a car that Joe can fit in 😂
Not enough M badges for me 😀
Nice work, Joe 👍 These are almost wagon wheels 😆 but what a seriously good blend of beauty and the beast. It shouldn't need it, but if available for this transmission... an xHP flash tune would help those take-offs and shifts.
Great video Joe , apart from its looks it’s still a fantastic machine, thanks
Will all the M50i engines be replaced by the M60i? Mainly will the new/lci x5 and x6 get this engine as well?
what a beast of a car.
Saw the X7 where in Switzerland, but since is toooo expensive for me i get a Q5 hybrid instead 🤭🤗
I would like to know from which brand are the rims on your m3? Thank you in advance
You know its bad when Joe cant even say it grows on you 🤣
Thanks for the video Joe.

Great video!! I had a 3 series as a rental car with the same infotainment and I agree with you that it is confusing. BMW are known for having the best satnav compared to rivals but they have changed it for the worst😕
Nice ride. I'd like to see it in a drag race with the 500hp turbocharged V6 Jeep Wagoneer. 😉🇺🇸
This car must do sun 15mpg all day, every fay given the weight. Cracker of a car though!
Beautiful! 😎
