I lived in Perth for 15 years after being born and raised in Sydney. Given the opportunity I would go back to Perth in a flash, it’s a great place to live. Beautiful weather. Very welcoming, I quickly made new friends there. Very laid back, it doesn’t have the crowds and hustle and bustle of more populous cities. It’s a great place to raise kids but it’s also a great place to retire, something for everyone. WA is a big state with a lot to see, I took a road trip to a different part of the state every year while I was there and there was always something interesting to see.
I've lived in every state in Australia born in NSW and have settled in Perth it's the best city with the best weather in oz yes it's a long way away from Sydney and Melbourne but that's why we love it
Ive lived in Perth for 32 years, originally from Manchester in the UK. Its a great place to visit, but like you say, its also a great place to live. The beaches are spectacular, the food diverse, you can find any cuisine here, the outdoor life is so vast with so much to do, the train can take you all over Perth, Down South to Fremantle to see the Port, Prison, fish markets etc, to Mandurah, Rockingham, Margaret River, Busselton, Bunbury. You can spend the day in the Swan Valley in the Vineyards, snorkelling the beautiful beaches, visiting parks like Whiteman Park, The Zoo, Yanchep National Park to see the Koalas and Kangaroos. The list is truly endless. Then you can travel up North to the warmer climates, Kalbarri, Exmouth etc where you can fish for dinner, walk the trails, see the Gorges, visit the best beaches and eat to your hearts content. It truly is a beautiful multicultural city. On the down side i would say beware, it is expensive to travel here in WA. Apart from that, Id say if you decide to come, get ready for not wanting to ever leave x
Born in Perth and I have visited all East coast states.. Perth is such a beautiful and calm place to live.. The main differences for me is that Perth is NOT Sydney (and we never want it to be), also, it is not Melbourne (because Melbourne has Collingwood and Eddie Everywhere.)
Totally agree! Born and raised in Perth and have visited the eastern states and many cities around the world, but for me nothing compares. Especially love our pristine beaches, Kings Park, Fremantle, The Swan Valley and holidays in both the south and north of WA. We are definitely very lucky to live here ♥️
You mentioned that Perth is a compact city - but it's not. Perth has some of the largest suburban houses in the world because there is plenty of land to build upon. It is the world's most remote city of cities with a population of over one million (the third most remote of cities with a population over 100,00 - Honolulu and Anchorage, Alaska are one and two). It is also thought to be the world's longest city - 140 km from north to south, and it does have the world's longest metropolitan rail line - 112 km from Mandurah to Butler, and that is currently being extended further north as the population grows. I live in Perth and moved here from Sydney. I love living here and would never move back to Sydney. The climate is wonderful, but one of the things that I love about Perth is that Western Australia is just such an amazing place. Distances are vast here, and the state has 8 climate zones. Even on the busiest metropolitan beaches, you can find your own patch of beach that is well away from other people. Despite what some people have said about Perth being like a big country town it does have a thriving comedy and music scene, many wonderful restaurants, lots of activities, and it is one of the cheapest of the major Australian cities in which to live. We have no toll roads, and we have free bus services in Perth City, Joondalup, Fremantle, and Mandurah. Perth is in the same time zone as 8 Asian countries, including China, Singapore, Malaysia, and parts of Indonesia.
@@redhammer9910 yeh I agree it depends what you mean by condensed. The city centre is small in area. It may have low population density but the area is very small and condensed for a downtown area for a metropolis that has 2 million people. For example all the skyscrapers are quite clustered together..
@@redhammer9910 There are way more than 30,000 people living within a 3 km radius of Perth's CBD. The CBD itself only has around 30,000 people but the surrounding suburbs more than make up for that. You're looking at around 200,000+ within a 3 km radius. They are trying for higher density through various projects and regulations.
I moved to Perth from Adelaide in 1983. Love it here and although it’s great to visit elsewhere it’s lovely to come home to Perth. Some say Perth is boring but we have never found that to be true. Fantastic weather (although a bit windy at times) Our city is super clean and very attractive. Wouldn’t be anywhere else!
I was born in Geelong and have lived in London and Chicago, which I enjoyed immensely, but Perth has definitely been the best city I’ve lived. It has a bit of everything, especially if it’s during the Perth Festival or Fringe Festival. This guy didn’t mention Fremantle and the cappuccino strip to any extent, and I ve always thought that the best thing about Perth is Freo. Freo, not smug, just better.
Fremantle is a hit or miss for many but if you wanna check out a historic town centre with older colonial buildings then Fremantle is a must see if you're heading to Perth. That said, it can be pretty underwhelming and desolate at times.
Freo, Vic Park, Northbridge, Subiaco. Lots of great centres of restaurants, pubs, live music venues & we don’t close down at midnight 😉 Pub crawl from Perth train station up through Hay St Mall & on into Northbridge is one of our favourite things to do. Also I live in the Swan Valley, magnificent wineries, breweries, distilleries & top class restaurants…and we haven’t even touched on a trip down south to Margs or up to Broome, Monkey Mia etc… we have a lot to offer, much more than Perth City 😊
Perth has everything that the best and most modern cities have on a scale that caters to the size of our population. I’m from London. Life in London can’t be compared to the quality of life that I have been experiencing for the last 45 years. Bringing our family to live in Perth is the Best move my Father and Mother ever made😊
I moved to Perth 35 year’s ago from Sydney. I’d been over here for holidays quite a few times and the differences between Perth and Sydney are like night and day. We have everything the bigger Cities over East do, it’s a very clean laid back lifestyle and our population is only a bit over 2 million people. Also you can buy a home over here for a lot less as well. Rent’s have increased since Covid hit, I don’t know why but they are also a lot cheaper than they are on the East Coast. We also have great roads and Public Transport is plentiful. Yes we do have crime but it’s also low. We are a laid back bunch who work hard and you don’t have to look far if you and your family want a day out and the Nightlife is great. Fremantle is also wonderful, I don’t live far from Fremantle and there’s always lots of music coming out of the Pubs, plus there’s plenty of shops and places to eat. You can even go down to the Jetty and buy fish and chips and eat them in the park, a word of warning though don’t whatever you do feed the Seagulls, because if you do,you will be sorry.
I moved to Perth from Sydney in 1996, and I echo your feelings. There's few places better to raise a family, it's safe, clean and prosperous. The city beaches are some of the best in the world, the public services are accessible and cheap, and there are still affordable properties if you know where to look. And it gets rural very quickly. I'm 35 mins from the city and have 200kms of national park behind me.
Born in Perth, Scotland, raised in Perth, Australia, so I may be biased aha.. But there's nowhere I'd rather live! West Australian weather is the best, and it's way more laid back than the likes of Sydney or Melbourne. Probably still a few more things to do over East, but with the lifestyle here I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything.. (until my favourite band or comedian skips Perth anyway lol) And that island shown when they mention Rockingham Beach is 5 mins from my house... just another day in WA! ✌🏼
Yeah, that's maybe the only downside is because of our remoteness from the population and only a smallish city, many artists don't see Perth as profitable enough. But we more than make up for the lack of artists with a better lifestyle, in my opinion, albeit a biased one.

Scitech is amazing, resulted in some very memorable school trips and family outings. They change up the exhibits a lot though, so there were always new things to see.
Perth has everything you need. Spectacularly beautiful state. Just get your butt over here Matt, I guarantee you won’t regret it. The only issue we have (same as other places) is a shortage of rental properties. It is Paradise on earth. Nowhere is perfect but I have to say Perth comes pretty damn close. ❤️🇦🇺
Having grown up in Perth, when I eventually visited Bondi beach I was pretty dissapointed in it. Perth beaches are much better in my opinion and generally significantly less crowded. I've grown up here and can't imagine living anywhere else, its well into Autumn and it's blue skies and low 20's today. The stuff listed in this video is all reasonable, though I am not sure how much time you could actually kill at Elizabeth Quay if you aren't stopping to eat/drink. Scitech is great for kids but probably not so much at adults (I went recently with some friends and their kids and it was quite nostalgic but I think I'd have looked out of place going as an adult alone).
better off going to Freo than Elizabeth Quay missed opportunity there even Araluen beats that $hithole by a mile and yes unless you have kids SciTech is well a tourist who hasn't been might get a kick out of it and yeah been to Melbourne and Sydney and couldn't wait to get home even mum bourn and raised over there was happier here at home and they mentioned only a couple of places true west Aussies would recommend where's Whiteman park kings park all of freo
I live in Perth, its great a relaxed style of life, everything is done at a sedate pace, its isolation is a bonus, none of the rush of Sydney or Melbourne, all the best beaches are in WA, the biggest state in size but, a population of 2.5m its empty. Down south and the vineyards, Margaret River plus further down Albany, Denmark and Esperance. Up north Broome and the outback. Then there is Rottnest and the Quokkas
We moved from Sydney to Perth in 2017 as we were unable to get into the market & absolutely love it. You dont feel isolated at all & there is so much to do as your excellent video showed. There are so many amazing parks & playgrounds for kids especially compared to Sydney & is very obvious how much more wealthy the state is thanks to the mining industry. We have around 5 playgrounds within 2km of our house that cost more than $2m. We built a 4-bedroom house with a theatre 20km from the city for only $430k with only 2% ($3k) deposit thanks to the W.A Government financing the loan with no LMI. We felt very frustrated in Sydney & feel very fortunate that the state government here cares about its residents unlike NSW. There are no road tolls either here & our last electricity bill was only $25 thanks to the 20 solar panels that only cost us an extra $1000 when we built the house. This is how Australia should be in my opinion. You definitely should visit tho be prepared for the fact you won't want to leave trust me. I've spent 3 months in Europe going to almost every major city in France, Germany & Switzerland as well as Hong Kong & Israel. Nothing comes close to Perth in my opinion.
Hi there, Perth born and raised. I feel like Rottnest Island is a great day trip. Cars are banned on the island so everyone hires bikes and rides around. The on-island restaurants and cafes are quite expensive but good. I recommend packing your own picnic. I'd also recommend you visit the Perth Darling Ranges if you enjoy hiking and scenic vistas. The swan valley is 30mins from the city and has great wineries and breweries. Fremantle is a great hub for calm, relaxed beachside town vibes with great coffee and nightlife options. Visit the fremantle markets too! and finally, I think you'll get the most value out of Perth by going out of Perth haha. The best beaches, wine country, beef country can be found 3-5 hours drive from Perth in just about any direction. Margaret River is a popular tourist destination for wine/alcohol lovers.
Mum remarried 40 years ago and lived in Perth. As a young woman I visited very often and later years. My impression was that and still is one of a beautiful place with warm and friendly people, great natural landscapes, animals, glorious fresh produce, an eclectic culture and brilliant blue skies. I of course could go on and on . Perth feels like my second home, not because my mother lived there, but that it has implanted itself into my heart. ❤
Lived there in the 90’s and it was a city that was behind the times compared to the rest of Australia. But moved back in 2015 and it was like the city had grown up. Double the size and very lively. The skyline is breathtaking from kings park at night or when you are on the freeway into the city and just around a bend and the skyline appears in front. Love the markets in Fremantle. They probably won’t tell you about the sharks and at least 1-2 people are taken most years.
Yeah we have a few great whites, but actual attacks have been down at Esperance, the sharks were probably on their way to SA (sorry Adelaide, had to say it 😂)
A very much bigger Peth than 1958-69 where I completed High School at Churchlands High . The range of attractions in this video were not there. But Dad and fellow Petroleum Geologists from around the world agreed that compared to other assignments Perth was " Perthly Paradise". We had already travelled 3 times around the world when we arrived and I found the city pleasant. The neighbours open and the only drawback was Dad had severe Asthma attacks. The drive through Kings Park was just a winding road but ----- each tree along the road had a plaque in memory of a Digger lost to war. It was sobering and yet better than rows of white marble headstones .
Perth Resident here! Perth really is quite a nice place, not the most exciting in terms of big attractions but is very pleasant and chill. Good place to just enjoy nature and the arts. I can attest to how nice the zoo is, I love to go and if it was free I'd practically never leave! Theres lots of statues n art around the city, n really nice buildings, generally it's just a very nice lookin, chilled out place. It's really great if you've got a boat and can chill out on the water, really any water related activities are great here, very nice Mariner city, good river, good beaches. N yeah, Perth's beaches against Sydney, I know I'm biased but Perth is definitely my fave, Sydney beaches are pretty dull in comparison, worse weather, more crowded. I'm frankly shocked the video didn't mention our vinyards, they're really nice n pretty. We also don't have funnelweb spiders so that's one thing better than some of the Easter cities.
I've been to many zoos all over the world and have to say the Perth Zoo is one of the nicest I've been to. The gardens are lovely and the enclosures are spacious and made to feel like the regions of the world they are supposed to represent.

As a young family raising children or retirees, Perth is the most incredible place to live. Best weather by far in Australia, the best beaches, is safe, laid back, has insane value for money when it comes to real estate and has relatively low traffic levels. Once you reach your mid-20s, it does start to get a little small, however, a lot of people who do move over east to Sydney or Melbourne tend to come back when its time to raise a family! I have loved growing up here and would definitely recommend as a place to live!
I moved to Perth 13 years ago from Scotland, it is a great city, activities lusted are all good but depends on the time of year, it can get colder than you'd expect in May, June, July. A trip to Rottnest Island is definitely one of the top things to do. Kings Park is great with superb views. Elizabeth Quay is still pretty new but is nice and right in the middle of the city. Perth Zoo is good but Caversham Wildlife Park is better to see Aussie wildlife, you can feed and walk in an enclosure with Kangaroos, much more hands on than the Zoo but a bit if a drive from the city. Hillary boat harbour is nice with a man-made beach which is super kid friendly. Cottesloe beach is iconic and easy to get to, good for swimming but can be about choppy sometimes so advisable to be a good swimmer, not good for non swimmers. There are an array of great beaches, Scarborough, Sorrento, Mullaloo are all really nice. There are lots of nice parks in the city and surrounding suburbs.
Lived in Perth my whole life. Done all these things multiple times as well as taking foreign visitors! Perth is fantastic for young families and people who love the outdoors and the beauty of nature. If you don’t love nature and being active outdoors…there isn’t much to do. A lot of concerts and bands never come here and only do the East coast, same as exhibits and anything that travels. We don’t have a particularly large nightlife/club scene, though it is great for local music and musicians. A lot of big companies just don’t have HQs here and a lot of careers take for granted that you’ll move to Sydney or Melbourne. But it’s very safe. Laid back. Lots of stuff for young families and kids to do. Has the best beaches. Cost of living is okay (housing anywhere in Australia is ridiculous unfortunately), school system is good, a range of higher learning institutes. Medical facilities are top notch. Downsides are things like the remoteness, that flying to Singapore will be cheaper than flying to Sydney, that we miss out on things, and the goddamn weather. Summer is BRUTAL. Fine I guess if you really just love the heat and sun but here you will absolutely burn on a cloudy day, and excessively hot days will drag on and on and on. It’s basically the one thing that would make me seriously consider moving (I can’t but in summer I often wish I could!) Even people from incredibly hot climates in SEA or the Middle East say our heat just hits different due to the intensity of the UV, which can feel like it is physically pressing down upon you and you can feel it burning your skin as soon as you’re outside.
Yes, everyone talking about Sydney and Melbourne but cities like Perth, Cairns and Brisbane are a much better place for living with top living standard in the world. I am still loving my home in Sydney but would consider Perth as second home in a heartbeat.
I live in Cairns, it is ideally situated to access the reef, rainforest and many other natural wonders. The city itself is not very nice, service can be mediocre to terrible. Crime is high, drug and alcohol use is a big problem and mental illness is disproportionately high. Many people escape to Cairns, seeking to start a new life, but too late realise geography often isn't the cause of their troubles, homelessness is high so in the city there are a lot of street people, public drunkenness and begging for ciggies, money. I'm not saying this to bag Cairns but this is the reality, some suburbs seem to be removed from these problems, the closer to the centre you get the worse it is.
I live in Perth and have visited Sydney and Melbourne but not lived there myself. Others I've spoken to who have lived in those cities have said they enjoyed it while they were young, but once they were starting to think of having a family Perth was more suitable.

Fantastic wine regions. So diverse because of WAs size..from Esperance(whitest beaches in Australia with clearest waters),to the Margaret River wine region, Rottnest Island with the world's friendliest animal..the Quokka, the Coral Coast, Ningaloo Reef, Pilbara and Kimberly regions with stunning gorges & rock formations. ..& Indian ocean sunsets. So much more! & Only 3 & a bit hours to Bali 👍 You'd love it for sure Mat! ✌️
I’ve lived in Perth all my life and something no one ever talks about is the fact that we have a shipwreck. It’s a beautiful place to snorkel as it’s quite close to the shore, and it’s one of the most underrated places in perth.
The one thing I can think of that Perth doesn't have that every major city has is crowded population. Kings Park dwarves Central Park and most things mentioned here is easy access. W.A has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world and further south and north are adventures, creatures and wonders that exist nowhere else in the world.
Beautiful city.... Born and grew up here spending in total 44 of my 49 years living here. Honestly I've been to 3 continents and many cities around the world but none can compare. No one regrets visiting this exceptional city/state. The people tend to be more laid back and friendly than average.
Perth may be isolated, but it is crammed full of cafes, restaurants, theatres, music venues, pools, parks, and bike and walking paths. It is stretched out along the coast with endless beautiful ocean beaches, as well as threaded through with rivers edged with parks, boat launching ramps and clean sandy swimming beaches. We have very low unemployment and excellent public transport. We are just so lucky.
Perth: Highest incomes and lowest cost of living in Australia, comparable to Switzerland and Norway for income but costs are lower. But unlike these two countries, Perth is warm in autumn (autumn and spring are the best time to visit), with mild wet windy winters, a long spring (two springs) and a long summer (two summers - hot and hotter but dry). Kings Park is a great amenity --- and if you like that sort of bush walks and park trails, and are here for 3 months or so then try rent in the neighbouring streets in the suburbs of West Perth, Subiaco, Shenton Park, Nedlands, or Crawley. Here you could have a 30-45 minute walk through the park on your way to part-time job in the city. In July/August it is wildflower season and Kings Park and the city median strips abound with colours. Alternatively if you prefer the beach above all else, then looking at renting in places like North Fremantle and Cottesloe (close to beach and close to public transport). What is not mentioned are all the public parks that dot the foreshore along the Swan River, including close to the CBD....e.g. near the Perth Stadium, the Perth Casino, South Perth and Matilda Bay (Crawley). Here you can spring summer autumn BBQ while at the same time crossing fingers to see the dolphins. Did I mention dolphins --- Perth is one of the few if not the only capital city where you can find and see dolphins in the river -- both adult and baby ones --- about 20 altogether like hanging out in different spots like the CBD bridges, South Perth, Matilda Bay, Canning Bridge, Fremantle bridges. Speaking of wildlife, Perth is the only capital city where you can have kangaroos in the urban environment.....at one of the city cemeteries, one of the outlying golf courses, in the city regional park and up in the Perth Hills suburbs just jumping across people's lawns and gardens. There are quite a number of wildlife centres where you can pay to do a behind-the-scenes tour and get up close and feed the (injured/orphaned) wildlife --- especially echidna (spikey little puppy things), sugar gliders (the cutest possums), etc. Just avoid wild kangaroos as they can get nasty and also have kangaroo ticks that cause something similar to Lyme disease from deer ticks.

I'm from Sydney, have lived all over, including Europe and the UK. Csme to Perth for the first time in 2009, and fell in love. I had just started a new career and couldnt transfer at the time, so visited regularly. I moved to the UK, and had the chance to move here in 2019, and havent regretted it. If you get the chance to move here- go for it! Its got everything you need, and then some. There's lots of places that are under the radar here. I've discovered loads just by looking at google maps and going for a drive.
I was born in Perth over 50 years ago and it has taken on an incredible transformation in those 50 years. It is very modern these days and I'm proud to call it home. Riding my motorbike along riverside drive is still a highlight when I go out riding. There are so many beautiful places to visit, but I would recommend the small beach along The Esplanade in Peppermint Grove and the Mosman Bay lookout via Bay View Terrace, both within a 5 min drive of one another. The building on the beach front you mentioned is the Indiana teahouse in Cottesloe. Earmarked for redevelopment, I hope you get to see it before then.
I've lived in Perth my whole life and I love it, I like that the city isnt too busy, Margaret River is beautiful, any of the beaches are good, Hillarys boat harbour is great and has tourist shops. Also if you can visit Rottnest Island.
Lived here for over 50 years, coming from England when I was 12 years old. I have been to several of these places. I live near the coast, where we have many beautiful beaches. It is a great place to live.
I've been living in Perth since I was a kid, but I also lived in Melbourne and Sydney for a bit. Perth has always been the most special city to me, and I have done all of the activities in this video at least once. I have fond memories of it all. Fun fact the Perth gold mint they showed is in the top 3 best gold mints in the world.
Perth is a beautiful city I’ve travelled quite a bit and love the places we’ve seen but when I come back to Perth it always feels like the most beautiful city I’ve seen. We have a pretty compact city so not hard to get around in. Our suburbs spreads probably nearly 100kms from north to south most of its close to the coast. It’s a very laid back place to live and people are friendly and most will say hello
Perth is my hometown. Nothing compares to it. 2.2 million (Greater Metro) friendly people. One of the only other cities in the world with an exact Mediterranean climate. Beaches that are second to none. Kings Park is the largest city park in the world. Australia's sunniest city. Modern, clean and safe. The Perth Metropolitan area is the longest city in the world. Stretching over 100km along the Indian Ocean. Perth is expected to succeed Brisbane to become Australia's third largest city in the next 30 years.
Yes Buddy, I live here. People talk to you here, not like over East. Shifted 20 years ago from East and am content here. Very laid back. WA stands for Wait Awhile apparently. Very laid back here. No one is in a hurry. Lord bless your travels.
Not mentioned but only briefly seen is Optus Stadium, winner of the 'World's most beautiful stadium' award. Even if you can't make a cricket or AFL match, there are daily tours with breathtaking views of the city from the roof. It has its own extensive parkland and the largest pub in Australia. All worth a visit. Perth suburbs are spread out and all have lots of parks and tree lined streets. Perth is the finest city in Australia and being closer to Singapore than Sydney has its own unique way of life. I came for a visit 29 years ago and stayed.
Perth is visually beautiful and clean. I live in Perth and had the most wonderful childhood. In my experience it is the most family orintated city in the world. So many activities for familes to share, develope great bonds and memories as well as developing/maintaining a healthy active lifestlye. Perth is a just a part of Western Australia. The rest of the state is truely worth exploring. Perth has everything you will find in the best known cities around the world, art, theatre, music, festivals, food, wine and cafe culture etc. Perth lives at a more relaxed pace which blends work and family life very well. I've travelled and visited many parts of Australia Europe Asia and the Americas but am always happy to come home. I could not imagine living anywhere else.
I'm from Perth and live in Perth and honestly we have one of the most beautiful states in Australia and yes I'm well travelled. We have some of the most beautiful, accessible beaches in the world. We have plenty of land and a clean state. I've lived here almost my whole life and haven't even discovered half of my own backyard. I recommend travelling to the Swan Valley, down south to Busselton and Margaret River, check out Penguin Island and the stunning beaches nearby and Karijini National Park for stunning beauty.
Perth, I Moved here in 1999, Perth from its Great wine from the south west, to Amazing sunsets, to Diving with whale sharks, to Rock bands in Freo or high class dj's at Metro city, to lovely walks along the coast, or riding ya motorbike to Wave Rock. Perth has it all and more.
My sister went on holiday to Perth over 30 years, met a wonderful man, they married, Come back to Victoria every few years, especially Re Covid it’s been quite a while. They love Perth. They are coming to Melbourne for a longer holiday than usual - yippee - as so far away, it’s not a quick trip from one side of Aus to the other.
Perfect city for anyone, kids at school play with other kids happily and don’t mind their religion, race or culture. My neighbours here in Perth are Aboriginal, Australian, Italian, Iranian, African, Malaysian, & some other Asians (they just moved in). Everyone can speak English. Perth is always developing and growing. So many new infrastructures being built. Our new museum is amazing too.
I moved to Perth in 2003 after living and working in Papua New Guinea, Indonesia and Malaysia for many, many years. My family and I love it and it is laid back, quiet and unassuming. For us, it has been the best decision we made, Having been born in South Australia, my work in the construction and mining industry, has seen me live in all States of Australia, except Tasmania and Victoria (though I love Melbourne). Never regretted coming here and the people are great, We are on the opposite side of the continent and don't really worry about what the "other half" of Oz does. Yep beaut things to see but remember the travel distances are great and you need to plan for that. Trips to Kalbarri, Jurien Bay and along the Batavia Coast, or down to the South West to Denmark and Albany, are a must!
I lived in Perth for 12 years, bought a house, had a job and had two kids there. I have mixed feelings.....It is very isolated, very windy, air is very dry and very sandy. Perth has beautiful beaches, beautiful city on the beautiful Swan River, Kings Park is amazing and overlooks the entire city basically as well as South Perth area and the Swan River, Freeways are great with trains running down middle. I liked the fact the traffic jams and crowds were small compared to Eastern states cities and most of the houses are newish looking. There are a lot of under the cover issues in Perth and I wont mention them all but drugs is one of them. There seems to be more good than bad and some of what I mentioned would be objective, however after moving back East the only thing that would ever drag me back to Perth would be jobs. I liked Perth a lot when I was there and my wife had to drag me away kicking and screaming, I really didn't want to leave, but we had to (jobs). Once we did leave and we settled in Melbourne I could not go back to live, at least not the way we were living before in the mortgage belt areas. Anyway bottom line is Perth can be loved but to some Perth can be a bit restrictive, it is not perfect and this comes from someone who is not in love with Melbourne either and I lived in Sydney for over 20 years as well, love aspects of Sydney but not sure I would want to live there again as it has changed a lot since I left and is quite crowded.

Fremantle is a University town, home to Western Australia’s Notre Dame University and a thriving city of great cafes and is Western Australia’s (WA) second city and a 20 minute drive from Perth. Joondalup is WA’s third city and filled with mainly English migrants, and Mandurah is WA’s fourth city also known as Australia’s Venice for its waterways. There are many regional towns and regions such as the Margaret River wine region a gastronomic’s delight with its abundance of high quality wines and produce, and Broome in the Northwest - the home of exquisite pearls. We do have everything!
If you're coming to Perth I can't recommend the Zoo highly enough. You will spend the entire day there and at some point you will remember where you are geographically and it will blow your mind how immersive it is and how little of the outside world you can hear. Lots of great exhibits to see there.
I've lived in Perth for 65 years when we migrated from Scotland. It's a beautiful place to live and the state itself is vast. I don't think that I could live anywhere else.
I was born in Perth and have been here since and throughout different years in school you go to the Aquarium, the Zoo, the Mint, and Parliament house, Fremantle Prison and some schools even go to Rottnest. Hills around Perth also have some Phenomenal national Parks.
Elizebeth Quay is literally brand new (2024), and some of it is still under construction; it's big, bold bright and fancy, with lots of international hotels and expensive restaurants, hotels and very few Perth people know about it or bother going there. - Perth is all about the Swan River, the beaches -- Cottesloe Beach is the best - and Fremantle, Kings Par (botanical gardens, lookouts and War memorials) - a friendly fun easy-going place
The best place on earth. Been here 56yrs.. Beautiful city, u gotta go north to the Pilbara and the Kimberly, the real Aussie bush. Down south to the wineries, stunning beaches, Kings Park overlooks the city, stunning at night. Rugged coastline further up north, Rottnest Island with the smiling Quokkas, its clean and friendly but u gotta go beyond the city limits. No place like it. Most isolated city in the world and we like it that way 😅🥰
I was a Sciguide at Scitech until doing my PhD took my spare time. Then I volunteered at the observatory until covid cut that back. I have visited other States and I’m originally from Scotland but I love it here in Perth and wouldn’t want to live anywhere else.
Moved from Melbourne to Perth when I had my first child in the early eighties. Best place for families. Safe, family focused so lots of things to do with kids. Greatest place to live. Retired now and staying here, after our trip around Australia July to Sept/ Oct.
Perthite here, born and bred. I adore my home, there's something about the pace of life here that just feels right. I love travel, but I will always come home to Perth.
I have lived in Perth most of my life and it's good to see people take an interest in the place. Don't know how many people have noticed this, but the Swan Bell Tower is not rocket shaped but is actually a stylised swan, with the bronze plates being it's feathers. I remember hearing Scitech was supposed to move into the disused East Perth power station, but the idea fell flat (probably too expensive to restore the building). The Perth museum, now called the Boola Bardip (Many Stories) museum is a good place to go. They built a new building on the site a few years ago after the old Fraser Building had to be destroyed because of asbestos falling out of the ceiling. It goes without saying, but having a car to get around is a must. People talk about going to the Margaret River wineries, but they are about three hours drive away from Perth. But a very good alternative is the Swan Valley, which is home of Houghtons winery, where WA bushranger Joseph Bolitho Johns (Moondyne Joe) was found in the cellar five weeks after his escape from Fremantle Prison.
Perth is gorgeous. I am a Melbournian, but have been to Perth a couple of times and loved it. Rottnest Island near Perth has my favourite beaches. With a little effort you can get a perfect beach to yourself.
1. Take the train from the airport to the city. The station is were the control tower is located 2. Visit Yagan Square and Northbridge. Go pub crawling 3. Visit Elizabeth Quay. Than take the ferry to South Perth 4. Have a few drinks at the Windsor in South Perth.
I live in Perth. My children's names are engraved in the Bell Tower along with other kids' names as that was something they did when it was built... and I used to work in the precious metals vault of the Perth Mint back in the late 90's. I came to Perth for a holiday in 1983.... I'm still here.
i lived in WA for 41/2 years a few years ago and it was them fantastic place to live i would go back tomorrow if i was able .The people are so friendly . i lived in rural WA a place named serpentine and it was a third of the cost of living in the UK there is only 3.5 million people there and it is 16 times the size of the UK that's half the population of London. it is a wonderful place to live. very nice channel by the way great stuff. regards John W.
These videos don’t do the beaches justice. Here’s an anecdote: Went to Whitehaven beach in the Whitsundays with some friends. Everyone was absolutely loosing their minds… except our little crew. Tour guides came over and asked why we were just sitting around not being overwhelmed, and in doing so asked where we were from. Basically they said nobody from Perth gets blown away by those beaches.. remembering that they even filmed pirates of the Caribbean half the state away. Now don’t get me wrong, Whitehaven was 10/10. But basically the entire stretch of W.A is minimum 7/10, and dozens of almost unbelievable beaches like Scarborough, Yanchep and Coogee being absolutely better than anything in the entire of NSW or non-island QLD coasts. Then go ahead and add Cable, Esperance, Rottnest, Geographe and Greens pool… that on the right day easily contend for best beache on the planet… yer, BEACHES!
The nicest folk I've met Overseas and in Australia and overseas live in Perth. Also many from my state have made a success in their respective endeavours.
I think "Aqwa" aquarium is a must see. It is located in Hillary's boat Harbour and is a great family outing. From there I would travel up the coast to Scarborough beach for sunset. Kings parks is magical as is Rottnest. Elizabeth Quay is only 70% finished but worth a stroll. The Perth zoo is another full day excursion. I would recommend staying along the coast line. The city has a very metropolitan vibe and is fairly chill. The coast is very special and offers great options for accommodation, food, entertainment for all ages. The best thing about Perth is everything is close. In less than an hour you can drive from north to south and can fit multiple things in one day.
Perth is absolutely wonderful so much to do & see beaches cafes , botanical gardens lovely wild flowers in September. The observatory is awesome 👏 best place to live . ♥️🙏💯🥰👏☀️ Australia 🇦🇺
moved here from the UK 10 years ago and fallen in love with the place. It has it's problems like any place. But there is so much going for it. I believe it has the most days of sunshine on average of all the major cities in Australia.
See the Perth Mint if you like GOLD!, there are the Swan Valley Wine Cruises, the C-Resteraunt (a revolving Resteraunt) also there is the Perth Hills and the Mundaring Weir, John Forrest National Park, Mandurah is nice as is Margeret River
I came for a holiday and never went back to the eastern states. We have a few problems and a few idiots around but it is absolutely THE place to live. The pictures shown are real and the beaches are big and beautiful. It is true we are a long way from the east coast of Australia but we like it like that. It is actually quicker and cheaper to holiday in Indonesia than in Sydney,Melbourne or Brisbane.
Fremantle is a good place to visit, lots of touristy stuff, markets and good food. Also, if you travel about 20 mins out of the city you'll get to Whiteman Park which is lovely, and there's a vintage car museum there too. Oh, and Bells Rapids is near there as well, which is always worth a visit!

Perth is my favourite Capital city in Australia and I'm from "the other side of the planet" in Cairns, Queensland. I have never lived there but have visited on a number of occasions and now have two nieces who live in WA> Had Chrissy there last year with all of my family.
My mum is from Falkirk and we emigrated to Perth in 1976. Lovely city. Doesn't have the rat race pace of Melbourne & Sydney which I like. Fremantle has a great history too. The old prison is a tourist attraction and events are held there. Mostly the weather this side is great. Cool winters with rainfall, fine wet springs then hot summers and warm autumns. Lots of Poms and Scots live here. We got like a homecoming welcome when we stepped off the ship! And to this day folk are about chatting where you're from and finding what makes us all Australian. I love where I was I born but where I live is my home. Come over Matt. There's a great Scottish cafe in Joondalup where he makes his own haggis, black pudding and square sausage. It's a great nosh up meal. I'll shout you!
We moved from Stafford (originally from Cumbria) to Perth 18 years ago and have seen many things develop over this time. we have done all the things in this video, but there is so much more to see and do here you'd need a feature length movie just to cover a small percentage. House prices are quite high rising to silly levels nearer the CBD area. We live 20 minutes from there and the pace of life is very laid back, if fact people jokingly say that WA instead of Western Australia actually means 'Wait a while' :) The central city area can get quite congested traffic wise but nothing like Malaysia and the further away from the CBD you get the easier it is to get about. Well worth a visit or two and i'm sure you will fall in love and want to move here mate ;)
Wait A While is an attempted dig from those in the Eastern States relating to no summer time and at least two hours Timezone difference. The rest of Australia wakes up and then Waits a while for WA to wake up. Business dealings with WA essentially are impossible to get done early from other states in Australia since WA Timezone has the day starting at least an hour and a half later than other states. During the summer time, WA time zone is 3 hours behind NSW,Tas and Vic, 2.5 hours behind SA and 2 hours behind QLD.
I live in Perth and it has space, clean air, best beaches, a fantastic lifestyle, affordable housing compared to the East, an excellent food n restaurant culture, proximity to world class wineries, etc. It’s also one of the wealthiest cities in the world. Come live here ☺️
I live in the city, literally right on the entertainment strip, James St. I love the common spaces in Perth CBD. I also love downtown parts of Fremantle. If you stray away from greater Perth, you can find gorgeous heritage towns like York, Albany, and there's also New Norcia, the only monastic town in Australia, with its unique Spanish architecture. Ofcourse there's also Rottnest Island, the home of the famous smiling quokka, you can also go diving with whale sharks.
I loved my visit there and yes beautiful beaches outside of Perth to be sure. But if you are used to a busy city around you I think you might find it a bit boring as a adult after a while. cost a fortune to travel anywhere else in Australia which you will want to eventually I'm sure . Xx
Perth/WA is the best place to live with a family in my opinion. There’s a lot to do but not too much and the city isn’t huge which is the perfect place for friends and family to hang out. And it’s super clean and modern! I’ve lived here my whole life and it’s amazing
Check out further south of WA too. Bunbury, Collie, Busselton, Dunsborough, Yallingup, Margaret River, Permberton, Albany, etc. So many beautiful places to explore.
I live just south of Perth, have been to all the attractions mentioned. I grew up in the south west of WA and there are a lot of great places to visit there too.
I lived in Perth for 15 years after being born and raised in Sydney. Given the opportunity I would go back to Perth in a flash, it’s a great place to live. Beautiful weather. Very welcoming, I quickly made new friends there. Very laid back, it doesn’t have the crowds and hustle and bustle of more populous cities. It’s a great place to raise kids but it’s also a great place to retire, something for everyone. WA is a big state with a lot to see, I took a road trip to a different part of the state every year while I was there and there was always something interesting to see.

Ive lived in Perth for 32 years, originally from Manchester in the UK. Its a great place to visit, but like you say, its also a great place to live. The beaches are spectacular, the food diverse, you can find any cuisine here, the outdoor life is so vast with so much to do, the train can take you all over Perth, Down South to Fremantle to see the Port, Prison, fish markets etc, to Mandurah, Rockingham, Margaret River, Busselton, Bunbury. You can spend the day in the Swan Valley in the Vineyards, snorkelling the beautiful beaches, visiting parks like Whiteman Park, The Zoo, Yanchep National Park to see the Koalas and Kangaroos. The list is truly endless. Then you can travel up North to the warmer climates, Kalbarri, Exmouth etc where you can fish for dinner, walk the trails, see the Gorges, visit the best beaches and eat to your hearts content. It truly is a beautiful multicultural city. On the down side i would say beware, it is expensive to travel here in WA. Apart from that, Id say if you decide to come, get ready for not wanting to ever leave x

Especially love our pristine beaches, Kings Park, Fremantle, The Swan Valley and holidays in both the south and north of WA. We are definitely very lucky to live here ♥️
You mentioned that Perth is a compact city - but it's not. Perth has some of the largest suburban houses in the world because there is plenty of land to build upon. It is the world's most remote city of cities with a population of over one million (the third most remote of cities with a population over 100,00 - Honolulu and Anchorage, Alaska are one and two). It is also thought to be the world's longest city - 140 km from north to south, and it does have the world's longest metropolitan rail line - 112 km from Mandurah to Butler, and that is currently being extended further north as the population grows. I live in Perth and moved here from Sydney. I love living here and would never move back to Sydney. The climate is wonderful, but one of the things that I love about Perth is that Western Australia is just such an amazing place. Distances are vast here, and the state has 8 climate zones. Even on the busiest metropolitan beaches, you can find your own patch of beach that is well away from other people. Despite what some people have said about Perth being like a big country town it does have a thriving comedy and music scene, many wonderful restaurants, lots of activities, and it is one of the cheapest of the major Australian cities in which to live. We have no toll roads, and we have free bus services in Perth City, Joondalup, Fremantle, and Mandurah. Perth is in the same time zone as 8 Asian countries, including China, Singapore, Malaysia, and parts of Indonesia.

It may have low population density but the area is very small and condensed for a downtown area for a metropolis that has 2 million people. For example all the skyscrapers are quite clustered together..

@@redhammer9910 There are way more than 30,000 people living within a 3 km radius of Perth's CBD. The CBD itself only has around 30,000 people but the surrounding suburbs more than make up for that. You're looking at around 200,000+ within a 3 km radius. They are trying for higher density through various projects and regulations.
I moved to Perth from Adelaide in 1983. Love it here and although it’s great to visit elsewhere it’s lovely to come home to Perth. Some say Perth is boring but we have never found that to be true. Fantastic weather (although a bit windy at times) Our city is super clean and very attractive. Wouldn’t be anywhere else!
I was born in Geelong and have lived in London and Chicago, which I enjoyed immensely, but Perth has definitely been the best city I’ve lived. It has a bit of everything, especially if it’s during the Perth Festival or Fringe Festival. This guy didn’t mention Fremantle and the cappuccino strip to any extent, and I ve always thought that the best thing about Perth is Freo. Freo, not smug, just better.
Fremantle is a hit or miss for many but if you wanna check out a historic town centre with older colonial buildings then Fremantle is a must see if you're heading to Perth. That said, it can be pretty underwhelming and desolate at times.
Freo, Vic Park, Northbridge, Subiaco. Lots of great centres of restaurants, pubs, live music venues & we don’t close down at midnight 😉 Pub crawl from Perth train station up through Hay St Mall & on into Northbridge is one of our favourite things to do. Also I live in the Swan Valley, magnificent wineries, breweries, distilleries & top class restaurants…and we haven’t even touched on a trip down south to Margs or up to Broome, Monkey Mia etc… we have a lot to offer, much more than Perth City 😊

Perth has everything that the best and most modern cities have on a scale that caters to the size of our population. I’m from London. Life in London can’t be compared to the quality of life that I have been experiencing for the last 45 years. Bringing our family to live in Perth is the Best move my Father and Mother ever made😊

I moved to Perth 35 year’s ago from Sydney. I’d been over here for holidays quite a few times and the differences between Perth and Sydney are like night and day. We have everything the bigger Cities over East do, it’s a very clean laid back lifestyle and our population is only a bit over 2 million people. Also you can buy a home over here for a lot less as well. Rent’s have increased since Covid hit, I don’t know why but they are also a lot cheaper than they are on the East Coast. We also have great roads and Public Transport is plentiful. Yes we do have crime but it’s also low. We are a laid back bunch who work hard and you don’t have to look far if you and your family want a day out and the Nightlife is great. Fremantle is also wonderful, I don’t live far from Fremantle and there’s always lots of music coming out of the Pubs, plus there’s plenty of shops and places to eat. You can even go down to the Jetty and buy fish and chips and eat them in the park, a word of warning though don’t whatever you do feed the Seagulls, because if you do,you will be sorry.
I moved to Perth from Sydney in 1996, and I echo your feelings. There's few places better to raise a family, it's safe, clean and prosperous. The city beaches are some of the best in the world, the public services are accessible and cheap, and there are still affordable properties if you know where to look. And it gets rural very quickly. I'm 35 mins from the city and have 200kms of national park behind me.

West Australian weather is the best, and it's way more laid back than the likes of Sydney or Melbourne.
Probably still a few more things to do over East, but with the lifestyle here I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything.. (until my favourite band or comedian skips Perth anyway lol)

Yeah, that's maybe the only downside is because of our remoteness from the population and only a smallish city, many artists don't see Perth as profitable enough. But we more than make up for the lack of artists with a better lifestyle, in my opinion, albeit a biased one.

Scitech is amazing, resulted in some very memorable school trips and family outings. They change up the exhibits a lot though, so there were always new things to see.
Perth has everything you need. Spectacularly beautiful state. Just get your butt over here Matt, I guarantee you won’t regret it. The only issue we have (same as other places) is a shortage of rental properties. It is Paradise on earth. Nowhere is perfect but I have to say Perth comes pretty damn close. ❤️🇦🇺
Having grown up in Perth, when I eventually visited Bondi beach I was pretty dissapointed in it. Perth beaches are much better in my opinion and generally significantly less crowded. I've grown up here and can't imagine living anywhere else, its well into Autumn and it's blue skies and low 20's today. The stuff listed in this video is all reasonable, though I am not sure how much time you could actually kill at Elizabeth Quay if you aren't stopping to eat/drink. Scitech is great for kids but probably not so much at adults (I went recently with some friends and their kids and it was quite nostalgic but I think I'd have looked out of place going as an adult alone).
better off going to Freo than Elizabeth Quay missed opportunity there even Araluen beats that $hithole by a mile and yes unless you have kids SciTech is well a tourist who hasn't been might get a kick out of it and yeah been to Melbourne and Sydney and couldn't wait to get home even mum bourn and raised over there was happier here at home

I live in Perth, its great a relaxed style of life, everything is done at a sedate pace, its isolation is a bonus, none of the rush of Sydney or Melbourne, all the best beaches are in WA, the biggest state in size but, a population of 2.5m its empty. Down south and the vineyards, Margaret River plus further down Albany, Denmark and Esperance. Up north Broome and the outback. Then there is Rottnest and the Quokkas
We moved from Sydney to Perth in 2017 as we were unable to get into the market & absolutely love it. You dont feel isolated at all & there is so much to do as your excellent video showed. There are so many amazing parks & playgrounds for kids especially compared to Sydney & is very obvious how much more wealthy the state is thanks to the mining industry. We have around 5 playgrounds within 2km of our house that cost more than $2m. We built a 4-bedroom house with a theatre 20km from the city for only $430k with only 2% ($3k) deposit thanks to the W.A Government financing the loan with no LMI.
We felt very frustrated in Sydney & feel very fortunate that the state government here cares about its residents unlike NSW. There are no road tolls either here & our last electricity bill was only $25 thanks to the 20 solar panels that only cost us an extra $1000 when we built the house. This is how Australia should be in my opinion. You definitely should visit tho be prepared for the fact you won't want to leave trust me. I've spent 3 months in Europe going to almost every major city in France, Germany & Switzerland as well as Hong Kong & Israel. Nothing comes close to Perth in my opinion.
Hi there, Perth born and raised. I feel like Rottnest Island is a great day trip. Cars are banned on the island so everyone hires bikes and rides around. The on-island restaurants and cafes are quite expensive but good. I recommend packing your own picnic. I'd also recommend you visit the Perth Darling Ranges if you enjoy hiking and scenic vistas. The swan valley is 30mins from the city and has great wineries and breweries. Fremantle is a great hub for calm, relaxed beachside town vibes with great coffee and nightlife options. Visit the fremantle markets too! and finally, I think you'll get the most value out of Perth by going out of Perth haha. The best beaches, wine country, beef country can be found 3-5 hours drive from Perth in just about any direction. Margaret River is a popular tourist destination for wine/alcohol lovers.
Mum remarried 40 years ago and lived in Perth. As a young woman I visited very often and later years. My impression was that and still is one of a beautiful place with warm and friendly people, great natural landscapes, animals, glorious fresh produce, an eclectic culture and brilliant blue skies. I of course could go on and on . Perth feels like my second home, not because my mother lived there, but that it has implanted itself into my heart. ❤
Lived there in the 90’s and it was a city that was behind the times compared to the rest of Australia. But moved back in 2015 and it was like the city had grown up. Double the size and very lively. The skyline is breathtaking from kings park at night or when you are on the freeway into the city and just around a bend and the skyline appears in front. Love the markets in Fremantle. They probably won’t tell you about the sharks and at least 1-2 people are taken most years.
Agreed that Perth has come of age in the last 15 or so years. The city looks fantastic.
Sharks ? Yeah nah. Rare one in the river. Then 15 plus years ago at Cottesloe.
Yeah we have a few great whites, but actual attacks have been down at Esperance, the sharks were probably on their way to SA (sorry Adelaide, had to say it 😂)

But Dad and fellow Petroleum Geologists from around the world agreed that compared to other assignments Perth was " Perthly Paradise".
We had already travelled 3 times around the world when we arrived and I found the city pleasant. The neighbours open and the only drawback was Dad had severe Asthma attacks.
The drive through Kings Park was just a winding road but ----- each tree along the road had a plaque in memory of a Digger lost to war. It was sobering and yet better than rows of white marble headstones .
Perth Resident here! Perth really is quite a nice place, not the most exciting in terms of big attractions but is very pleasant and chill. Good place to just enjoy nature and the arts. I can attest to how nice the zoo is, I love to go and if it was free I'd practically never leave! Theres lots of statues n art around the city, n really nice buildings, generally it's just a very nice lookin, chilled out place.
It's really great if you've got a boat and can chill out on the water, really any water related activities are great here, very nice Mariner city, good river, good beaches.
N yeah, Perth's beaches against Sydney, I know I'm biased but Perth is definitely my fave, Sydney beaches are pretty dull in comparison, worse weather, more crowded.
I'm frankly shocked the video didn't mention our vinyards, they're really nice n pretty.
We also don't have funnelweb spiders so that's one thing better than some of the Easter cities.

I've been to many zoos all over the world and have to say the Perth Zoo is one of the nicest I've been to. The gardens are lovely and the enclosures are spacious and made to feel like the regions of the world they are supposed to represent.

As a young family raising children or retirees, Perth is the most incredible place to live. Best weather by far in Australia, the best beaches, is safe, laid back, has insane value for money when it comes to real estate and has relatively low traffic levels. Once you reach your mid-20s, it does start to get a little small, however, a lot of people who do move over east to Sydney or Melbourne tend to come back when its time to raise a family! I have loved growing up here and would definitely recommend as a place to live!
I moved to Perth 13 years ago from Scotland, it is a great city, activities lusted are all good but depends on the time of year, it can get colder than you'd expect in May, June, July. A trip to Rottnest Island is definitely one of the top things to do. Kings Park is great with superb views. Elizabeth Quay is still pretty new but is nice and right in the middle of the city. Perth Zoo is good but Caversham Wildlife Park is better to see Aussie wildlife, you can feed and walk in an enclosure with Kangaroos, much more hands on than the Zoo but a bit if a drive from the city. Hillary boat harbour is nice with a man-made beach which is super kid friendly. Cottesloe beach is iconic and easy to get to, good for swimming but can be about choppy sometimes so advisable to be a good swimmer, not good for non swimmers. There are an array of great beaches, Scarborough, Sorrento, Mullaloo are all really nice. There are lots of nice parks in the city and surrounding suburbs.
Lived in Perth my whole life. Done all these things multiple times as well as taking foreign visitors! Perth is fantastic for young families and people who love the outdoors and the beauty of nature. If you don’t love nature and being active outdoors…there isn’t much to do. A lot of concerts and bands never come here and only do the East coast, same as exhibits and anything that travels. We don’t have a particularly large nightlife/club scene, though it is great for local music and musicians. A lot of big companies just don’t have HQs here and a lot of careers take for granted that you’ll move to Sydney or Melbourne.
But it’s very safe. Laid back. Lots of stuff for young families and kids to do. Has the best beaches. Cost of living is okay (housing anywhere in Australia is ridiculous unfortunately), school system is good, a range of higher learning institutes. Medical facilities are top notch.
Downsides are things like the remoteness, that flying to Singapore will be cheaper than flying to Sydney, that we miss out on things, and the goddamn weather. Summer is BRUTAL. Fine I guess if you really just love the heat and sun but here you will absolutely burn on a cloudy day, and excessively hot days will drag on and on and on. It’s basically the one thing that would make me seriously consider moving (I can’t but in summer I often wish I could!) Even people from incredibly hot climates in SEA or the Middle East say our heat just hits different due to the intensity of the UV, which can feel like it is physically pressing down upon you and you can feel it burning your skin as soon as you’re outside.
Yes, everyone talking about Sydney and Melbourne but cities like Perth, Cairns and Brisbane are a much better place for living with top living standard in the world. I am still loving my home in Sydney but would consider Perth as second home in a heartbeat.
I live in Cairns, it is ideally situated to access the reef, rainforest and many other natural wonders. The city itself is not very nice, service can be mediocre to terrible. Crime is high, drug and alcohol use is a big problem and mental illness is disproportionately high. Many people escape to Cairns, seeking to start a new life, but too late realise geography often isn't the cause of their troubles, homelessness is high so in the city there are a lot of street people, public drunkenness and begging for ciggies, money. I'm not saying this to bag Cairns but this is the reality, some suburbs seem to be removed from these problems, the closer to the centre you get the worse it is.
I live in Perth and have visited Sydney and Melbourne but not lived there myself. Others I've spoken to who have lived in those cities have said they enjoyed it while they were young, but once they were starting to think of having a family Perth was more suitable.

I’ve lived in Perth all my life and something no one ever talks about is the fact that we have a shipwreck. It’s a beautiful place to snorkel as it’s quite close to the shore, and it’s one of the most underrated places in perth.

The one thing I can think of that Perth doesn't have that every major city has is crowded population. Kings Park dwarves Central Park and most things mentioned here is easy access. W.A has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world and further south and north are adventures, creatures and wonders that exist nowhere else in the world.
It does have terrible urban sprawl though which is one of the biggest negatives of what is otherwise a nice city to live in.
Beautiful city.... Born and grew up here spending in total 44 of my 49 years living here. Honestly I've been to 3 continents and many cities around the world but none can compare. No one regrets visiting this exceptional city/state. The people tend to be more laid back and friendly than average.
Perth may be isolated, but it is crammed full of cafes, restaurants, theatres, music venues, pools, parks, and bike and walking paths. It is stretched out along the coast with endless beautiful ocean beaches, as well as threaded through with rivers edged with parks, boat launching ramps and clean sandy swimming beaches. We have very low unemployment and excellent public transport. We are just so lucky.
Perth: Highest incomes and lowest cost of living in Australia, comparable to Switzerland and Norway for income but costs are lower. But unlike these two countries, Perth is warm in autumn (autumn and spring are the best time to visit), with mild wet windy winters, a long spring (two springs) and a long summer (two summers - hot and hotter but dry). Kings Park is a great amenity --- and if you like that sort of bush walks and park trails, and are here for 3 months or so then try rent in the neighbouring streets in the suburbs of West Perth, Subiaco, Shenton Park, Nedlands, or Crawley. Here you could have a 30-45 minute walk through the park on your way to part-time job in the city. In July/August it is wildflower season and Kings Park and the city median strips abound with colours. Alternatively if you prefer the beach above all else, then looking at renting in places like North Fremantle and Cottesloe (close to beach and close to public transport). What is not mentioned are all the public parks that dot the foreshore along the Swan River, including close to the CBD....e.g. near the Perth Stadium, the Perth Casino, South Perth and Matilda Bay (Crawley). Here you can spring summer autumn BBQ while at the same time crossing fingers to see the dolphins. Did I mention dolphins --- Perth is one of the few if not the only capital city where you can find and see dolphins in the river -- both adult and baby ones --- about 20 altogether like hanging out in different spots like the CBD bridges, South Perth, Matilda Bay, Canning Bridge, Fremantle bridges. Speaking of wildlife, Perth is the only capital city where you can have kangaroos in the urban environment.....at one of the city cemeteries, one of the outlying golf courses, in the city regional park and up in the Perth Hills suburbs just jumping across people's lawns and gardens. There are quite a number of wildlife centres where you can pay to do a behind-the-scenes tour and get up close and feed the (injured/orphaned) wildlife --- especially echidna (spikey little puppy things), sugar gliders (the cutest possums), etc. Just avoid wild kangaroos as they can get nasty and also have kangaroo ticks that cause something similar to Lyme disease from deer ticks.

I'm from Sydney, have lived all over, including Europe and the UK. Csme to Perth for the first time in 2009, and fell in love.
I had just started a new career and couldnt transfer at the time, so visited regularly. I moved to the UK, and had the chance to move here in 2019, and havent regretted it.
If you get the chance to move here- go for it! Its got everything you need, and then some.
There's lots of places that are under the radar here. I've discovered loads just by looking at google maps and going for a drive.
I was born in Perth over 50 years ago and it has taken on an incredible transformation in those 50 years. It is very modern these days and I'm proud to call it home. Riding my motorbike along riverside drive is still a highlight when I go out riding. There are so many beautiful places to visit, but I would recommend the small beach along The Esplanade in Peppermint Grove and the Mosman Bay lookout via Bay View Terrace, both within a 5 min drive of one another. The building on the beach front you mentioned is the Indiana teahouse in Cottesloe. Earmarked for redevelopment, I hope you get to see it before then.
I've lived in Perth my whole life and I love it, I like that the city isnt too busy, Margaret River is beautiful, any of the beaches are good, Hillarys boat harbour is great and has tourist shops. Also if you can visit Rottnest Island.

Perth has always been the most special city to me, and I have done all of the activities in this video at least once. I have fond memories of it all. Fun fact the Perth gold mint they showed is in the top 3 best gold mints in the world.
Perth is a beautiful city I’ve travelled quite a bit and love the places we’ve seen but when I come back to Perth it always feels like the most beautiful city I’ve seen. We have a pretty compact city so not hard to get around in. Our suburbs spreads probably nearly 100kms from north to south most of its close to the coast. It’s a very laid back place to live and people are friendly and most will say hello
Perth is my hometown. Nothing compares to it. 2.2 million (Greater Metro) friendly people. One of the only other cities in the world with an exact Mediterranean climate. Beaches that are second to none. Kings Park is the largest city park in the world. Australia's sunniest city. Modern, clean and safe. The Perth Metropolitan area is the longest city in the world. Stretching over 100km along the Indian Ocean. Perth is expected to succeed Brisbane to become Australia's third largest city in the next 30 years.

Not mentioned but only briefly seen is Optus Stadium, winner of the 'World's most beautiful stadium' award. Even if you can't make a cricket or AFL match, there are daily tours with breathtaking views of the city from the roof. It has its own extensive parkland and the largest pub in Australia. All worth a visit.
Perth suburbs are spread out and all have lots of parks and tree lined streets.
Perth is the finest city in Australia and being closer to Singapore than Sydney has its own unique way of life. I came for a visit 29 years ago and stayed.
Perth is visually beautiful and clean. I live in Perth and had the most wonderful childhood. In my experience it is the most family orintated city in the world. So many activities for familes to share, develope great bonds and memories as well as developing/maintaining a healthy active lifestlye. Perth is a just a part of Western Australia. The rest of the state is truely worth exploring. Perth has everything you will find in the best known cities around the world, art, theatre, music, festivals, food, wine and cafe culture etc. Perth lives at a more relaxed pace which blends work and family life very well. I've travelled and visited many parts of Australia Europe Asia and the Americas but am always happy to come home. I could not imagine living anywhere else.

I'm from Perth and live in Perth and honestly we have one of the most beautiful states in Australia and yes I'm well travelled. We have some of the most beautiful, accessible beaches in the world. We have plenty of land and a clean state. I've lived here almost my whole life and haven't even discovered half of my own backyard.
I recommend travelling to the Swan Valley, down south to Busselton and Margaret River, check out Penguin Island and the stunning beaches nearby and Karijini National Park for stunning beauty.
Perth, I Moved here in 1999, Perth from its Great wine from the south west, to Amazing sunsets, to Diving with whale sharks, to Rock bands in Freo or high class dj's at Metro city, to lovely walks along the coast, or riding ya motorbike to Wave Rock. Perth has it all and more.
My sister went on holiday to Perth over 30 years, met a wonderful man, they married, Come back to Victoria every few years, especially Re Covid it’s been quite a while. They love Perth. They are coming to Melbourne for a longer holiday than usual - yippee - as so far away, it’s not a quick trip from one side of Aus to the other.
Perfect city for anyone, kids at school play with other kids happily and don’t mind their religion, race or culture. My neighbours here in Perth are Aboriginal, Australian, Italian, Iranian, African, Malaysian, & some other Asians (they just moved in). Everyone can speak English. Perth is always developing and growing. So many new infrastructures being built. Our new museum is amazing too.
I moved to Perth in 2003 after living and working in Papua New Guinea, Indonesia and Malaysia for many, many years. My family and I love it and it is laid back, quiet and unassuming. For us, it has been the best decision we made, Having been born in South Australia, my work in the construction and mining industry, has seen me live in all States of Australia, except Tasmania and Victoria (though I love Melbourne). Never regretted coming here and the people are great, We are on the opposite side of the continent and don't really worry about what the "other half" of Oz does. Yep beaut things to see but remember the travel distances are great and you need to plan for that. Trips to Kalbarri, Jurien Bay and along the Batavia Coast, or down to the South West to Denmark and Albany, are a must!
I lived in Perth for 12 years, bought a house, had a job and had two kids there. I have mixed feelings.....It is very isolated, very windy, air is very dry and very sandy. Perth has beautiful beaches, beautiful city on the beautiful Swan River, Kings Park is amazing and overlooks the entire city basically as well as South Perth area and the Swan River, Freeways are great with trains running down middle. I liked the fact the traffic jams and crowds were small compared to Eastern states cities and most of the houses are newish looking. There are a lot of under the cover issues in Perth and I wont mention them all but drugs is one of them.
There seems to be more good than bad and some of what I mentioned would be objective, however after moving back East the only thing that would ever drag me back to Perth would be jobs. I liked Perth a lot when I was there and my wife had to drag me away kicking and screaming, I really didn't want to leave, but we had to (jobs). Once we did leave and we settled in Melbourne I could not go back to live, at least not the way we were living before in the mortgage belt areas.
Anyway bottom line is Perth can be loved but to some Perth can be a bit restrictive, it is not perfect and this comes from someone who is not in love with Melbourne either and I lived in Sydney for over 20 years as well, love aspects of Sydney but not sure I would want to live there again as it has changed a lot since I left and is quite crowded.
I'm from WA and TBH I find the best thing to do is go camping outside Perth. The bush is the best thing about Perth.

Fremantle is a University town, home to Western Australia’s Notre Dame University and a thriving city of great cafes and is Western Australia’s (WA) second city and a 20 minute drive from Perth. Joondalup is WA’s third city and filled with mainly English migrants, and Mandurah is WA’s fourth city also known as Australia’s Venice for its waterways. There are many regional towns and regions such as the Margaret River wine region a gastronomic’s delight with its abundance of high quality wines and produce, and Broome in the Northwest - the home of exquisite pearls. We do have everything!
Perth is like living in heaven itself. Take a day trip to Rottnest Island and see the Quokas.

If you're coming to Perth I can't recommend the Zoo highly enough. You will spend the entire day there and at some point you will remember where you are geographically and it will blow your mind how immersive it is and how little of the outside world you can hear. Lots of great exhibits to see there.

I was born in Perth and have been here since and throughout different years in school you go to the Aquarium, the Zoo, the Mint, and Parliament house, Fremantle Prison and some schools even go to Rottnest. Hills around Perth also have some Phenomenal national Parks.
Elizebeth Quay is literally brand new (2024), and some of it is still under construction; it's big, bold bright and fancy, with lots of international hotels and expensive restaurants, hotels and very few Perth people know about it or bother going there. - Perth is all about the Swan River, the beaches -- Cottesloe Beach is the best - and Fremantle, Kings Par (botanical gardens, lookouts and War memorials) - a friendly fun easy-going place

I was a Sciguide at Scitech until doing my PhD took my spare time. Then I volunteered at the observatory until covid cut that back. I have visited other States and I’m originally from Scotland but I love it here in Perth and wouldn’t want to live anywhere else.
I love Perths weather pattern, no road tolls, peak hour traffic is best in the country amongst the capitals apart from Darwin and Hobart.
Moved from Melbourne to Perth when I had my first child in the early eighties. Best place for families. Safe, family focused so lots of things to do with kids. Greatest place to live. Retired now and staying here, after our trip around Australia July to Sept/ Oct.

I have lived in Perth most of my life and it's good to see people take an interest in the place.
Don't know how many people have noticed this, but the Swan Bell Tower is not rocket shaped but is actually a stylised swan, with the bronze plates being it's feathers.
I remember hearing Scitech was supposed to move into the disused East Perth power station, but the idea fell flat (probably too expensive to restore the building).
The Perth museum, now called the Boola Bardip (Many Stories) museum is a good place to go. They built a new building on the site a few years ago after the old Fraser Building had to be destroyed because of asbestos falling out of the ceiling.
It goes without saying, but having a car to get around is a must. People talk about going to the Margaret River wineries, but they are about three hours drive away from Perth. But a very good alternative is the Swan Valley, which is home of Houghtons winery, where WA bushranger Joseph Bolitho Johns (Moondyne Joe) was found in the cellar five weeks after his escape from Fremantle Prison.
Perth is gorgeous. I am a Melbournian, but have been to Perth a couple of times and loved it. Rottnest Island near Perth has my favourite beaches. With a little effort you can get a perfect beach to yourself.
1. Take the train from the airport to the city. The station is were the control tower is located
2. Visit Yagan Square and Northbridge. Go pub crawling
3. Visit Elizabeth Quay. Than take the ferry to South Perth
4. Have a few drinks at the Windsor in South Perth.
A lot of South Africans emigrate to Perth because it's such an amazing, clean, safe place to live and the Aussies all speak perfect English.
I live in Perth. My children's names are engraved in the Bell Tower along with other kids' names as that was something they did when it was built... and I used to work in the precious metals vault of the Perth Mint back in the late 90's. I came to Perth for a holiday in 1983.... I'm still here.
i lived in WA for 41/2 years a few years ago and it was them fantastic place to live i would go back tomorrow if i was able .The people are so friendly . i lived in rural WA a place named serpentine and it was a third of the cost of living in the UK there is only 3.5 million people there and it is 16 times the size of the UK that's half the population of London. it is a wonderful place to live. very nice channel by the way great stuff. regards John W.
These videos don’t do the beaches justice. Here’s an anecdote: Went to Whitehaven beach in the Whitsundays with some friends. Everyone was absolutely loosing their minds… except our little crew. Tour guides came over and asked why we were just sitting around not being overwhelmed, and in doing so asked where we were from. Basically they said nobody from Perth gets blown away by those beaches.. remembering that they even filmed pirates of the Caribbean half the state away.
Now don’t get me wrong, Whitehaven was 10/10. But basically the entire stretch of W.A is minimum 7/10, and dozens of almost unbelievable beaches like Scarborough, Yanchep and Coogee being absolutely better than anything in the entire of NSW or non-island QLD coasts. Then go ahead and add Cable, Esperance, Rottnest, Geographe and Greens pool… that on the right day easily contend for best beache on the planet… yer, BEACHES!
The nicest folk I've met Overseas and in Australia and overseas live in Perth. Also many from my state have made a success in their respective endeavours.

Lived in Perth for about 7 years. It's my home away from home. I love it very much.
I think "Aqwa" aquarium is a must see. It is located in Hillary's boat Harbour and is a great family outing. From there I would travel up the coast to Scarborough beach for sunset. Kings parks is magical as is Rottnest. Elizabeth Quay is only 70% finished but worth a stroll. The Perth zoo is another full day excursion. I would recommend staying along the coast line. The city has a very metropolitan vibe and is fairly chill. The coast is very special and offers great options for accommodation, food, entertainment for all ages. The best thing about Perth is everything is close. In less than an hour you can drive from north to south and can fit multiple things in one day.
Perth is absolutely wonderful so much to do & see beaches cafes , botanical gardens lovely wild flowers in September.

moved here from the UK 10 years ago and fallen in love with the place. It has it's problems like any place. But there is so much going for it. I believe it has the most days of sunshine on average of all the major cities in Australia.
See the Perth Mint if you like GOLD!, there are the Swan Valley Wine Cruises, the C-Resteraunt (a revolving Resteraunt) also there is the Perth Hills and the Mundaring Weir, John Forrest National Park, Mandurah is nice as is Margeret River
I came for a holiday and never went back to the eastern states. We have a few problems and a few idiots around but it is absolutely THE place to live. The pictures shown are real and the beaches are big and beautiful. It is true we are a long way from the east coast of Australia but we like it like that. It is actually quicker and cheaper to holiday in Indonesia than in Sydney,Melbourne or Brisbane.
Fremantle is a good place to visit, lots of touristy stuff, markets and good food. Also, if you travel about 20 mins out of the city you'll get to Whiteman Park which is lovely, and there's a vintage car museum there too. Oh, and Bells Rapids is near there as well, which is always worth a visit!
Born & bred in Perth. So many people come here to visit and never leave. There is so much more to see than the city.

Kids love Scitech. It has been there for years. I have fond memories of going there as a child myself. A great educational experience too.
Perth is my favourite Capital city in Australia and I'm from "the other side of the planet" in Cairns, Queensland. I have never lived there but have visited on a number of occasions and now have two nieces who live in WA> Had Chrissy there last year with all of my family.
My mum is from Falkirk and we emigrated to Perth in 1976. Lovely city. Doesn't have the rat race pace of Melbourne & Sydney which I like. Fremantle has a great history too. The old prison is a tourist attraction and events are held there. Mostly the weather this side is great. Cool winters with rainfall, fine wet springs then hot summers and warm autumns. Lots of Poms and Scots live here. We got like a homecoming welcome when we stepped off the ship! And to this day folk are about chatting where you're from and finding what makes us all Australian. I love where I was I born but where I live is my home. Come over Matt. There's a great Scottish cafe in Joondalup where he makes his own haggis, black pudding and square sausage. It's a great nosh up meal. I'll shout you!

We moved from Stafford (originally from Cumbria) to Perth 18 years ago and have seen many things develop over this time. we have done all the things in this video, but there is so much more to see and do here you'd need a feature length movie just to cover a small percentage.
House prices are quite high rising to silly levels nearer the CBD area. We live 20 minutes from there and the pace of life is very laid back, if fact people jokingly say that WA instead of Western Australia actually means 'Wait a while' :)
The central city area can get quite congested traffic wise but nothing like Malaysia and the further away from the CBD you get the easier it is to get about.
Well worth a visit or two and i'm sure you will fall in love and want to move here mate ;)
Wait A While is an attempted dig from those in the Eastern States relating to no summer time and at least two hours Timezone difference.
The rest of Australia wakes up and then Waits a while for WA to wake up.
Business dealings with WA essentially are impossible to get done early from other states in Australia since WA Timezone has the day starting at least an hour and a half later than other states. During the summer time, WA time zone is 3 hours behind NSW,Tas and Vic, 2.5 hours behind SA and 2 hours behind QLD.
I live in Perth and it has space, clean air, best beaches, a fantastic lifestyle, affordable housing compared to the East, an excellent food n restaurant culture, proximity to world class wineries, etc. It’s also one of the wealthiest cities in the world. Come live here ☺️
I live in the city, literally right on the entertainment strip, James St. I love the common spaces in Perth CBD. I also love downtown parts of Fremantle. If you stray away from greater Perth, you can find gorgeous heritage towns like York, Albany, and there's also New Norcia, the only monastic town in Australia, with its unique Spanish architecture. Ofcourse there's also Rottnest Island, the home of the famous smiling quokka, you can also go diving with whale sharks.
Love perth with my heart ❤️. Nice and quiet city , modern and not too crowded. Moved here in 2007 I won’t move ❤
I loved my visit there and yes beautiful beaches outside of Perth to be sure. But if you are used to a busy city around you I think you might find it a bit boring as a adult after a while. cost a fortune to travel anywhere else in Australia which you will want to eventually I'm sure . Xx
But it's cheaper when flying to Asia, though 😂
Perth/WA is the best place to live with a family in my opinion. There’s a lot to do but not too much and the city isn’t huge which is the perfect place for friends and family to hang out. And it’s super clean and modern! I’ve lived here my whole life and it’s amazing
Check out further south of WA too. Bunbury, Collie, Busselton, Dunsborough, Yallingup, Margaret River, Permberton, Albany, etc. So many beautiful places to explore.
I live just south of Perth, have been to all the attractions mentioned. I grew up in the south west of WA and there are a lot of great places to visit there too.
