This kind of duty takes a frightening psychological toll in law enforcement depression, trauma and suicide; the enormous bravery and selfless commitment of these agents can't be overstated. It's impossible to calculate how many innocent children they saved from exploitation, rape and degradation. Deep condolences to their families.

I'm fairly sure someone with a lengthy track record that police and FBI would be looking for on child porn would not just "go to the grocery store". He's got goons to do that small stuff for him. That's the thing with cops and FBI: they took a sworn oath to bring justice and safety knowing the possible cost. They trained to do this and it was a part of their job. They will of course try their hardest to not let any death happen but they know it could be a possibility but will continue on. That is what it means to be in law enforcement.

One example would be Germany's police: Selection of applicants has a 90% attrition rate (Intelligence test, sport test, essay, group discussion, presentation, cross-examination/interview) and the training pipeline takes 3 years.

Happened too close to home. I live in the neighboring city and heard about it in the morning. My old neighbor is an FBI agent and was one of the first on scene after getting messages. She told me the two agents who eventually died were laying on the ground intron of the home. In fact, the male who died was still alive at that point but wasn't able to be extracted. He died on the way to the hospital.

It’s strange how federal agents pick and choose when to disengage their firearms during such operation. If they are busting a suspected drug dealer they open fire indiscriminately regardless of whether a child is in the house or not. Now in this case, they decided not to do so because the kids being protected from these criminals were also in the residence

There is one question that cannot be answered as of yet, but I am sure more intel will be revealed. Was the suspect abusive to his or her children, considering the possibility that he or she had children?
Did they knock or just bust in the door? They may have though it was a break in?

One would question the "tactic" used by these FBI agents serving a warrant in an apartment complex where other "collateral damage" is present.
Why not wait till the perp left the complex, then pull him over by local PD (the perp thinking he's got a driving violation) and then the FBI closes in at both directions.

There are several ways I can think of that create less risk then invading someone's home. It would also cost less money. Pay to agents to alternate surveillance of the house until the suspect leaves. Call for backup when he does. Follow him until you come to an area where you can make a stop
That's what I was thinking. Maybe he wasn't leaving much because of covid, or maybe something was happening right then, to a child.
