Who profited from the drilling of those abandoned wells. Did the ranch owners sell the drilling rights and profit from that sale? If yes, then they, too, are liable for the cost of clean up.
the land was bought by old oil companies and then leased or sold to ranchers. they would drill on the land in search for oil and if they didn’t find any they would market the land as having a very deep water well good for livestock. those old oil companies went bankrupt or scammed their way out of being the ones responsible for drilling those wells
kids.... you want to be a millionaire.... then go start a well plugging company... they exist now but there aren't enough of them and there are thousands and thousands of wells that need to be plugged.....
@@Kevin-jf5bw depends on the well and how it was drilled.... some are paid by the oil companies some by the mineral rights owner and some by the gov... I just saw a article where many of the wells are venting methane.... this is one major cause for climate change so I would think someone is going to get serious about getting the wells plugged correctly... they said there are now over 1 million wells needing plugged... its not hard to plug a well ... you also get to pull the casing before you plug the well so you can also sell the casing to make more money....
Enhanced recovery folks. Pump that methane back down into a injection well. We do that here in Canada. Helps to keep it from escaping into the atmosphere. Pick up federal funding and start plugging the serious emitters first. The well done foundation has a excellent working program from start to finish. Check them out !!
It seems like those politicians in Texas should bring up this problem during the fourth stimulus bill debate/voting. If the gas is piped into storage tanks and the grid or new gas distribution center, then it could used in heating for electric plants or storing it for wholesale. Under ground yellow polyethylene piping would be a cheaper way to pipe it to a factory that bottles it up.
How much can the gas and water be recycled? How much could methane be used for climate control and even refrigeration? This may help with hot houses and root cellars. How much can contaminated water be purified with charcoal and "Passive Solar Water Distillers"? Thank you for sharing informative videos!
Usually the city taps or gas main is 120 psi which is considered high pressure so each well tap would have to a 120 psi regulator Incase there is an overpressure situation. There regulators reduce the gas to 60 psi before it goes into the pipes that reach the home gas meters. The normal pressures used inside homes is around less than 2-15 psi and there is a regulator at the gas main and meter connection that's then regulates the gas down even further to around 12-15 psi before it goes into the homes gas main. There are regulators inside the home to reduce the gas even further down and at the appliances to regulate the gas and reduce it to safe usable pressures. So at those orphan oil wells the pressure would have to be reduced to 120 psi max to make it less likely of a pipe rupturing from over pressure or pressure spikes from the gas from oil wells or orphan oil wells. The piping used with natural gas is polyethylene for underground piping, coated wrought iron for underground piping, and coated galvanized steel. Plus wrought for above ground piping, galvanized steel, brass fittings, stainless steel tubing, and gas tight which corrugated stainless steel piping. Plus some braided nylon lines for bbq portable grills. I recommend the Tru Blu pipe thread compound sealant for natural gas pipe and the yellow gas pipe teflon tape or the monster Teflon tape. The Blue Monster Teflon tape says it works for water, sewer, liquid petroleum, and natural gas pipe threads, and it works on metal or plastic piping.
THe FLIR camera doesn't show methane, they use it to make a pretty picture that frightens people so they can get more funding. Essentially they are lying. But that never stopped an environmentalist.
Low IQ take. These problems don't stay isolated to the land they originate on. One cattle rancher cannot afford to clean up these types of environmental disasters. If you don't have a comprehensive way of dealing with the problem because it's not possible with your simplistic system of ownership and responsibility, then it's a problem with that very system.
State of TX needs to make that into electricity so people do not die of heat in summer or cold next winter.
His family wasn’t complaining when they were getting millions from contracts to drill
We need more research done on Sharon Wilson. Environmentalist? Earthworks? She has some very interesting postings on Twitter.
What would you like to know about me?
Why don't you just say what you want to say.
Heh, heh. The Railroad Commission of Texas is such a joke.
Time for Texas to manage their problem.

There is still crude oil coming out of that one oil well. 1:40

Now I know why , am sick all the time can’t get better. Too much of dirty stuff in the air.

I love my v8 hemi but this is sad
Cattle farts are also methane
All farts are methane.

There are hundreds of uncapped wells?
How much is this a Hazard?
What is it going to take?

Renewables are a lot cheaper, we should switch to them instead of these plants, and clog up these leaky old piles of garbages.
Uhhhhhhhh natural Methane has no Odor associated with it guys!... False Story!
And all this time I thought flir recorded differences in temperature, did not it could see cow farts other than being warm air.
