    Any of you have been waiting for this Nikon Z 24-200mm VR lens? Do you think it's the best travel zoom lens for your Nikon Z camera or you prefer some other lenses as your travel companion?

      the Z 24-200 looks great!

      The 24-70/4 S have much better image quality!
      The 24-200 in part of comparisons have equivalent to 24-120/f4 image quality, even in some cases 24-120 win!
      A pointless purchase, for people who already have 24-70/4 S, 24-120 or 28-300.

      @@PrVladimir I won't get the 24-70/4. If you check out Nikon Z lens roadmap, there'll be an upcoming 24-105 (possibly F/4 throughout). That's the one I'll get. For now, as a handy travel lens, I'll get the 24-200 F/4-6.3
      PS: we're talking about Z lens and not the FX lens (of course, for those who are ok to use the adapter, then there's no need to buy this 24-200 Z lens).

      First of all: thank you Richard for this reasonable review.
      As a landscaper with much love for primes, I'm really tempted to this zoom. There are situations in which you just do not want to change lenses (bad weather, sand, moisture). And, that happened to me quite often in the last few days, there are situations in which you just do not have the time to change lenses. I missed a few shots in sunrise and fog while changing lenses...
      So better nail the shot with a tiny little lack of optical quality than miss it at all.

    Thank you very much for this review! I bought the Z 24-200 a whole ago and so far used it for a hot air balloon ride where I felt I wouldn't want to swap lenses. I was quite surprised even when I dearly love primes and feel hesitant to use low aperture zooms... but I should really carry it around more.

    Good job, Richard! Thank you very much. I already have the 28-300 for my D750 (it started with me on a D600 and D7000) and now I'm waiting for the Z24-200 to reach Spain. In most parts of Europe it is still missing. Thanks again.

    The 24-200mm lens seems really good, but unfortunately it's also more expensive, so I think I'll buy the 28-300mm lens. It's even cheaper when you consider the second hand market.

    Once you fit the adapter to the 28-300 it becomes longer and heavier enough to make the 24-200 the best choice for travel.
    What about current prices?

    • @TheRealRichardWong
      @TheRealRichardWong  4 роки тому +2

      Yes good point about the adaptor adding size and weight. Price wise.. the MSRP of the 28-300 is slightly higher but I suspect the street price would be similar as 24-200 is new release.

  • @PhotographerSen

    Wish they have made it as chunky as the 28-300 but kept it at f5.6... with a little more sharpness at 24mm.

    Hi there, great review of this lens :)
    Just wanted to know or clarify if the lens' VR works in conjunction with the Z body's (eg Z6ii) VR?
    So there is no way deactivate the lens' VR independently via the cameras menu and if you activate the camera's VR you by default activate the 24-200's VR automatically? Thank you

    • @TheRealRichardWong
      @TheRealRichardWong  Рік тому +1

      Z lens VR works together with IBIS to provide 5 axis image stabilization. I don't believe you can turn off one of them individually and probably no real reason to do that?

    • @gurdeepkhosa3055
      @gurdeepkhosa3055 Рік тому +1

      @@TheRealRichardWong thank you. Was just confused by the lack of a dedicated switch for VR and how it works.

    One of the biggest benefits of a super-zoom is that you don't have to change lenses in marginal weather. Also for journalistic, events, and wedding second-shooters you grab shots quickly. Is it as sharp as a 135mm prime? Of course not. But not every shot, even on money shoots, need the ultimate in sharpness. Today's long-range zoom lenses are far better performing and useful than many believe.

      Hi Ivan, no unfortunately not. You need the new z cameras as the old F mount on dslr is smaller and also larger flange distance so not possible to use z lens

    How does the Nikon Z 24-200 compare to the new Tamron 28-200 on the Techart adapter?

    • @TheRealRichardWong
      @TheRealRichardWong  4 роки тому

      Image quality i feel they would be similar, both are very solid! But the autofocus with the Nikon Z 24-200 should be more reliable, consistent than the Tamron using the Techart adaptor.

    • @dtthorpe01
      @dtthorpe01 4 роки тому +1

      I can't comment on the Techart adapter, but I tried the Tamron 28-200 on a Sony camera and the Nikon 24-200 on a Nikon camera; I found the Tamron had much better corner performance (sharper and more contrast) especially at the wide end (28mm and 35mm), and having a 1 stop faster aperture through most of the zoom range was very nice. They both had pretty bad purple fringing in the corners, especially at the wide end, but the Nikon was worse. Image quality in the middle of the frame was quite similar. I definitely preferred the Tamron, though I assume it would focus slower and lose weather sealing when on the Techart. Both had too much fringing for me to buy (it could not be fixed in lightroom, had to do it carefully in photoshop or Capture One), but I came much closer to getting the Tamron.

    The 28-300mm weighs 8 oz more than the 24-200mm lens, and you don't have to be bothered with the expense or hassle of an adapter.

  • @dannyli9424
    @dannyli9424 2 роки тому

    I found this 24-200 has horrible chromatic aberration, and produces pretty ugly sun stars too. lens flare is definitely worse than the Z 24-70 F4 kit lens, a pretty typical super zoom.
