  • I show how to replace both the tail gate struts and the tail gate opening glass window struts in a 2006 Citroen C5
This is the "face lift" version of the earlier C5 but should be basically the same design in the earlier vehicles.
What is required before you embark on the job and also part numbers are provided.

    So that's;
    bootlid/tailgate part no. 8731 F4
    glass part no. 8731 F7
    circlips part no. 6979 85
    Thanks mate, g'day. ;)

      G'Day
I'm glad it helped. My Haynes manual said it had to be left to the Main Dealer so I was a bit scared put up with it for 2 years before reading in a forum about someone doing his own. It's just working out how everything comes apart is the secret. The video has cracked 28K views so there must be a lot of people in UA-camland with dodgy C5 struts!
I've sold my C5 now and have realised that here in Oz where they are considered even more unusual than in Europe they are a bit more trouble than they are worth.
      Hope your repair goes well.
BTW. You can go to service.citroen.com and sign up as a repairer so you can access the site and that will give you access to your own actual car by VIN number so you can find accurate part numbers for everything. Even here in Oz it was cheapest and quickest to buy all my parts from Big Mick and Little Mick at Eurocarecare in Derbyshire. I just emailed them the part numbers and they send a quote back and when I said go ahead they would send me a Paypal invoice. I usually got the parts here in about 5 days and about 1/4 to 1/3 the price of local dealers and they usually had to order from France which took 5 weeks.

Thanks for this video. Just some advice for the next video. It is always best to have a second person doing the camera-work; if not possible to put the camera on a tripod.

This never pretended to be a car repair video. It is simply me muddling along and working out how to fix my car. I just took some iPhone video as the information may help others who are looking at attempting the same repair. I know it is crap but it is better than nothing!

Useful video, thank you very much,. Just a question are the clips in the back and the front the same and the same part number? They do not look the same to me. Or does the clip in the back (of the car) come with the strut?

I did that many years ago and no longer have the car. I used to be able to access the citroen parts fiche for part numbers but it is now chargable. From memory I think the front had circlips which all stretched and needed replacing and I had to order these separately from the struts. The rear have the typical ball joint you see on struts which have a flat spring clip which is included.

Congratulations to Australia to change their Sub-Order to US from France. People who build crap cars like this should not be building any maritime equipment...

I do agree. I have sold the C5 and would never buy another French car. It always had engine and suspension management issues and would go into limp mode with the slightest excuse which can be very dangerous. I’m glad it wasn’t a submarine. You would spend half your time on the ocean floor….

XD Peoples who do not build car or submarine should be happy to find french ones XD
Anyway, I'm not a big fan of french machines, but dont spit on it cause the one you bought is not working well.. who are you to judge a brand that serves many generations during more than hundred years.
      Bye !
