I have now randomly drawn the winner, and this will be announced on my next video which I will be dropping very soon. Thanks to everyone who commented, was good to see everyone’s go to patterns! 👍🏻
Buzzers are a key fly for sure, deadly in many forms. Can’t beat straight lining them just keeping in touch with your line, and getting that savage take you get on naturals!
Just looking to get back fly fishing again and so refreshing to see someone local covering places etc I know ( remember Kinross when it was Heatheryford ). Plus in the 80s advise like yours wasn’t about just Troutfisher magazine articles about Rutland etc . Keep up the great work and those 10 flies are on my shopping list. Mainly enjoying chasing wild brownies at Whiteadder but will try other places now .
Thanks graham, glad to hear you are enjoying the videos, and that you are getting back into fly fishing. I’ve not been fishing much recently, but getting back on track now and out on a boat tomorrow 👍🏻🎣🎣
Great video’s. Away from the synthetic flies, squirmies, blobs etc, flies I catch most on are the blue flash damsels and gold head zonkers. Keep up the good work!
Not long started in fly fishing, you videos really helped me with sorting out leaders and different mindsets on how to fish. only had a couple of fish both on fabs.
Nice one. I included all the specific info for that very reason, that it was detail like this that newcomers would find useful, so I’m glad it’s been a help. Get a blue flash damsel on fishing the margins and it won’t be long before you get a fish on one of those too! 👍🏻
Thanks mate! I’m glad you are enjoying, and that the videos are helping! If there’s anything you would like covered in a future video just let me know 👍🏻
The Trout Fly Fisherman more setup rigs with the diagrams that your doing there super simple to understand! And a look through what gear you have and take with you. Thanks heaps!
Sandy Hutcheson - cheers Sandy! Yeah to be fair there is more than ever now, but I’m trying to cut back what I carry and use, it’s getting out of hand! 😂 welcome back to the sport! 👍🏻🎣
Another fantastic video. Very informative. I, ve been waiting patiently for your next instalment! Top pattern for me so far this summer has to be the Red Holo Diawl Bach on the dropper. Weighted Damsel as point fly for those slightly deeper fish and Fab or booby for those fish just subsurface. Deadly. Thanks again and keep those vids coming my friend. All the best.
Thanks Darren, glad you are enjoying the vids! Solid choices! I love a foam hares ear shrimp pattern as an alternative to fab or booby on a small Stillwater, but a fab or booby at big waters are a must!! Thanks again, appreciate the kind words mate 👍🏻
Was out last week with a mate and I fished 3 buzzers under a yellow owl and he was on 2 blobs under fab. Both worked well. Was watching your mentieth vid and a fly you were using was a poly spinner. Could u send me a recipe for it. Couldn't find it on you tube. Would be appreciated I'm wanting to fish with some more dry flies
Static buzzers just work! I didn’t actually tie those, I do buy flies, and copy those that I like using, but I’ve never attempted this pattern. Link to buy them is www.fullingmill.co.uk/Goddard-Poly-Spinner-S12-UK 👍🏻 they work a treat on larger waters I have found, and you can see them easily which I like. Cheers
Glad I found this channel. I'm just getting into fly fishing and yet to catch my first fish. Still learning the names of different flies and how to fish them and your channel is helping me learn a lot. Thank you and keep it up!
Adam 0 - Hi Adam, I’m glad you are finding the channel useful, that’s great! It won’t be long til you get your first, just don’t be put off as it’s tough this time of year depending where you fish. If there’s anything you want to ask or would be helpful for me to feature in a future vid just shout. Thanks again for watching, cheers, Chris
Welcome back to fly fishing! 👍🏻 I’m glad you are enjoying them, and if you think of anything you would like features in a future video just let me know 🎣
Thanks mate. Solid choices! The yellow dancer is another fly that just always delivered, especially like you say going down a bit. I had to include it in the box for the prize, and just didn’t make the top 10!
I watched some of your videos yesterday and put some of your tips to work today and had a great mornings fishing Inc landing my first blue trout! They fight great!! I was using Klinkhammers today but I also like using foam black beetles. Thanks for the videos, really useful.
Nice one Marie! Yeah the blue trout give a good account of themselves eh! I love a tiny black beetle too, can be deadly! Thanks for watching, and I’m glad you have found the videos useful 👍🏻🎣
Hello again mate, thought you should know how useful your vids have been/are for me. Your format is bang on the money, extremely informative! Keep up the excellent work & thankyou for your efforts
Enjoying your videos, I have success with a wee Kate McLaren on the top dropper, even when fishing buzzers or nymphs below it. As always, it's just having confidence in a fly that makes a massive difference.
Thanks John, I’m glad you are enjoying them! I do like a mate mclaren too, and have a range of sizes in my box. I tend to go with snatchers more just now, but Kate mclaren is a great pattern. Absolutely, confidence in a fly makes you fish it better, and makes the difference! Thanks for watching 👍🏻🎣
I think with the cormorant you have pretty much nailed the top 10.. Because daddies are so prolific at this time of the year i would suggest "klink n dink " with a natural or foam daddy as the Klink (also could be a klinkhammer) with a size 16 cruncher or buzzer as the dink tied on the bend of the suspender fly, fished static with an occasional long draw ... another very enjoyable vid 👍
Yeah it’s very tough trying to do a top 10 I must say! I love a dry dropper, and definitely lethal at this time of year, as you say the occasional movement and let it sit. Thanks Allan, glad you enjoyed it! 👍🏻
Another great video. It’s got to be the gold ribbed hares ear for me, works all year round and suggests so many types of insect, olive nymph, sedge pupa, hog louse etc etc. Size 12 & 14 are best for me.
Thanks Scottie, glad you enjoyed it. Ah the good old yellow owl, great fly!!! I could have filled my top 10 with different dries to be honest, love a sedge pattern too! 👍🏻🎣
I just whack on a size 14 flashback gold bead hairs ear and a size 16 quilled body buzzer. Good to see the midas got you some results, love tying them and using them. Great content!!! Keep em coming!! ATB Chris.
Great choices, and yep the smaller the better! I’ve been impressed with the Midas, and don’t look too difficult to tie so that’s on the to do list. The fiery brown especially is performing well for me. Thanks mate, glad you are enjoying the videos 👍🏻
Cheers mate, appreciate it. I do love a beaded nymph on the point, and Diawl Bach’s are deadly on most waters as you say fished slow. Easy to tie too which is a bonus! 👍🏻
Another well put together, informative video Chris. I need all the help I can get at the moment, several fishless visits to fisheries. Brown/copper coloured cruncher has been the fly when I have caught.
Thanks mate, glad you enjoyed it. Yeah it’s a tough time of year for sure, when really first thing and last thing gives you the best chance. Crunchers are such a good fly, the smaller the better.
This year I have been catching fish with either a yellow owl dry fly or my foam hooked indicator, so many trout seem to try to bite the bung. Enjoying your videos and thanks for sharing your knowledge. I have just picked up some Midas flies so looking forward to trying them out
Thanks Abe, I’m glad you are enjoying them and finding them helpful! Using a bung fly will always pick you up extra fish for sure, I got a cracking fish at Kailzie in a recent video doing just that! The Midas are great, I’m sure you will bag plenty fish on them. I’m going to start tying some up, might just do a box full! 👍🏻
Thanks Tom! Yep, cracking fly. I must have 7 variations of crunchers I use regularly depending on the conditions / water clarity, and they all perform well! 👍🏻
Nice mate! Popper hopper is great to cause some drama as you say, I fish it on it’s own sometimes just giving it a few pills, stop for 7 seconds, then same again, and can be deadly! Thanks for watching! 👍🏻
Not surprised with the flies in the vid all good catchers for me buzzers and dries! Another great vid and awesome the time and effort you put in including all the replies you always find time to help everyone 👍 would love to see you do one on the best fisheries ? Would appreciate one on Harelaw if possible 👍
Thanks Willie! I will try add Harelaw to my places to visit, never been so be good to try it out 👍🏻 I can think about doing a video on my favourite fisheries for sure, I’m keen to visit as many new places as I can and then it would be good to reflect on those. Thanks for watching!
Funny you say that, I watched Tim Joyce’s recent video where he was killing with them, and he’s since sent me a link of the tying. Be interested to see how they perform up here! Future video maybe! 👍🏻
Kicking video and awesome advice. I, unfortunately, have not tried any of those flies yet as I live in Canada and don't have easy access to anywhere there is trout (lots of bass, pike, carp and panfish in my waters though). I am going to take note of them all and tie up a few to try them out.
Thanks mate! Well you are now in the draw so you might well win and get to try them all out 👍🏻 thanks again for watching, and I do fancy targeting pike on the fly in the future - I have caught a few on the fly when targeting trout but would love to get a big pike on a proper set up.
Thanks mate, was a nightmare to choose and would probably be different if I tried again!! Candy FAB or booby works a treat for me too mate, solid choice! 👍🏻
Another cracking video my friend! Thanks for sharing your tips to us all ! Love a copper john and a Scottish favourite all year round good fly is the yellow dancer. I’m up in Melrose soon maybe you can send list of your favourite venues! Thanks
johnty63 - thanks mate, appreciate it! I’m with you on the yellow dancer, some times on a tough day it’s one of those flies I will go to and always seems to get you a fish. I will have a think on the venues and get back to you mate 👍🏻🎣
Just found your channel. Unlike most of the fly fishing videos I found yours to be very informative and details exactly how you fish the various methods, really enjoying them. Pretty new to fly fishing these videos will help me. I have been itching mainly on dry dry fly (Yellow Owl) but also like fishing the damsels. up to now have only been fishing with 1 fly but hope to increase this as my technique gets better
Geoff Screen - thanks Geoff, I’m glad you are finding the detail useful and you are enjoying them! Great fly choices, and you will catch plenty fish with those just using 1 fly. Especially the damsel in and around the margins. It does take a bit of time (and tangles) to get used to fishing multiple flies, but it won’t be long before you master it! Thanks for watching! 👍🏻🎣
@Geoff Screen - as per my announcement on my latest video, you are the winner, well done Geoff! Drop me an email to thetroutflyfisherman@gmail.com and I will arrange to get these posted out to you 👍🏻🎣
Great video again. This is my first summer actually fly fishing but have been doing well with an orange beaded buzzer on point and green beaded buzzer on the dropper the last 2 outings
allan Stewart - definitely a great choice at this time of year, and catches plenty of trout! It’s one of my go to patterns for sure, which I am classing as buzzer for my top 10 😂
I would like help with fly selection, tippet lengths, casting and all other beginner problems. I’m sure you encountered them all and I would love to hear how you got over them. I’m asking this because I don’t know any fly fishermen yet and your help will be appreciated.
Thanks Dan, glad you are enjoying the content, really appreciate the kind words. Great choices, still can’t believe cormorants didn’t make my top 10 😂 let me know if there is anything you would like to see in a future video and I will try to film it 👍🏻
My go to cast is a hares ear sussy on the dropper and a small yellow owl on the point my local water is a big water harelaw trout fishery in Neilston 🎣
Great vid, cheers. Think I fish most of them but also done really well this year so far with sedgehogs on the top and I would never leave home without half a dozen daddies 😁
Cheers Dean, I do love a sedgehog, there is actually one in the box as I was loosely classing it as a dry hopper 😂 good old daddies always catch fish too!! Have many in my box and need to fish them more really! Thanks for watching!
Thanks Phil! Basically I’ll take an educated guess, but also I always set up 2 rods, even on the boat. So I tend to have a washing line on one, usually on midge tip at this time of year, and either a floater with dries or sinking line depending on if I see any fish on arrival, or get an idea if they are higher or lower in the water from the staff. Fly wise, I will tend to start with a mix of crunchers / hoppers, and go to ptn / Diawl Bach’s / hares ear in smaller sizes if changing up. Always love to fish a damsel in the margins wherever I go, with the good old snatcher on the dropper. I tend just to mix it up each trip to be honest, they will all catch and it’s more about sussing out the depth they are feeding I find. No worries, will try to get a video done on that soon 👍🏻
Blue flash damsel yellow dancer and dry s for is the shipmans all day long big red s Midas great video s I would like to c you trying some off your flies thanks mate
What weight rods are you using for your summer fishing on small stillwaters? And I fish a relatively small stillwater around 8ft deep what leader length would you recommend for a two fly cast? Please.
Hi Trevor, I mainly use a 6 weight if a bit of wind, and 5 weight if not. I do set up the 7 weight for using deep sinking lines, and generally set up 2 rods every trip, just to save time. 8ft is shallow, but I would probably fish a 15ft leader with a buoyant fly on point, with 7.5 ft to dropper. Just let you fish nice and slow through the water. Otherwise I would drop to a single fly otherwise adjusting the length to suit the speed you will be retrieving. 👍🏻
Really enjoyed the video - just started watching your channel and the videos I have watched so far have been excellent. Really appreciate the time you put into them and explaining the tactics.......In terms of top 10 flies, I would probably go for a Diawl Bach (top) - but as you say in the video I think I would have Cormorants in the list (maybe not for the super hot weather - but earlier in the summer definitely).
It's got to be a blue flash damsel on point and a traffic light diawl on droppers for me and of course if they are rising a shuttlecock or a shipmans. Nice vid bud 👍
Great choice. I had beetle in there to begin with, then replaced it with the Midas based on how well it’s performed! No worries, will feature that in my next video 👍🏻
I’m in can never have to many flys 🤪. I have only really had one summer and this what’s left of this one 😩 so still finding my way. so this video will help me out, but I have to say the Midas has been a killer I have also been killing it on a new fly called the Rosa’s rock chick you should check that out
The Trout Fly Fisherman it’s fairly new I think. was in last months trout and salmon mag and I have been doing well on fabs and to me it looks like a natural fab made from cdc so though I would give it a go and it did not disappoint 🙂
blackfur2 - sounds good to me, will have a look for sure. I’ve been using a foam hairs ear pattern on the point of a washing line and works really well, so this could be another nice addition! Thanks! 👍🏻🎣
Really good video, unfortunately my Stillwater only allows single flies, is this something you have much experience of and if so what would you recommend?
All the waters I fish allow multiple flies, however I am interested in how I would achieve success in this scenario so may well try this in a video in the future 👍🏻🎣
@@TheTroutFlyFisherman Really enjoying these Videos, especially as you show pictures of the flies used and the graphics of the set up. Very informative.
Thanks John - I found that this level of detail wasn’t that common on similar channels, so thought this would help beginners with set up and be clear on what flies I use for every fish. I have had some good feedback on it so I’m glad it’s useful. 👍🏻
@@TheTroutFlyFisherman A couple of quick queries if I may. Firstly, on your droppers, do you knot direct to the leader or do you use micro rings? Secondly, do you have your leader setups on pre-prepared rigs or do you tie up at the bank?
John Owen - Hi John, I always knot directly to leader with a triple surgeons knot, and always make up pre-prepared rigs now, for multiple set ups in different lengths and for different set ups like washing line / straight line / 2 flies / bung / sinking line. Never used to, but since starting filming it makes it so much easier. I made up a LOT of rigs, and now just top up what I use after each outing. It’s working a treat. Cheers, Chris
Thanks Joseph! I have never used tippet rings, just the triple surgeons knot for me. Yeah I’ve heard the mop fly can be a blank saver, tried it once in winter but had no joy. I do love an apps too!
@@TheTroutFlyFisherman thanks for your reply. I went fishing on Friday and blanked. Fish were up in the water, cruising with dorsel fin showing but not breaking the water surface. They would then dive down to deeper water, clarity wasn't good so couldn't see what they were doing, after which they would return to their cruising position a few inches from the surface. I tried and failed, could i ask what you would have tried in this situation? Thanks, Joe
Joseph Nicholson - Hi Joseph, with them being close to the surface, I would be on the washing line on a floater, using a small foam emerging buzzer or foam caddis on the point, and 2 small nymphs on the droppers. The point fly will tend to go under and stay just below the surface, and could tempt them, and the 2 nymphs sitting a little deeper to cover the levels. That would be my first go to, then id just go for unweighted nymphs if no joy, then a beaded nymph on point if still no joy to cover more levels. Always worth throwing out a dry to try to tempt them too, but I’m guessing you tried that. If they wasn’t working, a booby on the point and damsel on dropper to see if they attack something bigger in the area they are showing. Then maybe a dry dropper to see if they want something small and static. Then I would just laugh that the fish won and I’ve tried enough! 😂👍🏻
Cheers Martin! I’m sure that scientists have proved that based on their eye they can see colour. For me from a distance it will be more about silhouette where black stands out a mile or Olive is more subtle. When they get close that’s where I feel colour will play a part, but not as much as a lot of people believe. Size & shape are key, as well as overall colour, but ribs / cheeks etc in my opinion are more to catch the anglers! 👍🏻🎣
Not too bothered about winning your flies mate. Try a flourescent green ribbed DB on a dark and gloomy day and a gold ribbed DB whenever there are fish, any fish, in the water.
Excellent, interesting, and informative video Chris. Maybe one time you can make a top ten for fisheries where only one fly is allowed. Don't put me in the hat, it wouldn't be fair. I won some flies before :)
Thanks David, glad you enjoyed it. I’m lucky in that all fisheries up here allow teams of flies, but interesting to think of what I would change! Thanks again for watching 👍🏻
I love a Diawl bach, and my wife is Welsh too so I need to improve my pronunciation! I only tie what I use as with 2 small kids my spare time is limited, but if I do decide to sell in future I will let you know. I still buy flies, then copy what performs well.
Great videos mate, I’ve subscribed for a while now and look forward to new content. This summer I’ve been hitting fish on a firey brown/orange cdc. It’s an adaption of a pattern that Steve Cullen has tied on one of his UA-cam videos and I find it deadly up near weedbeds (I fish up at New Howwood). Hope to fish Menteith some day once I get some boat handling advice
Thanks Jon, and is glad you are enjoying them! That fly sounds the business, and fishing the weed beds is always a must for me 👍🏻 you will love Menteith, just be sure to go when it’s calm the first few times! The boat handling is honestly not hard, just takes a bit of getting used to. I’m sure Menteith do boat handling courses themselves, so that would be ideal. Good luck and let me know how you get on 👍🏻
Hi. I can't believe I have won something, I was really surprised to see my name being selected, its going to be a great opportunity to try some new flies out. I really appreciate these. Not being very technical on You tube how do I claim these. Regards
Hi Geoff, was a random draw done online, and you are the lucky winner! 👍🏻 just drop me a note to thetroutflyfisherman@gmail.com with details, and I will get these posted out to you. You will need to let me know how you get on with them!
I have now randomly drawn the winner, and this will be announced on my next video which I will be dropping very soon. Thanks to everyone who commented, was good to see everyone’s go to patterns! 👍🏻
Hi
Great video as always best flies fir me in warm weather crisp packet buzzers and fab on tail
Thanks Brian, and I do love a nice red crisp packet buzzer!! 👍🏻🎣
Thanks for the video. Always good to have some tips on fly choice . Pearl cruncher for me
Thanks Jan, great choice of cruncher!! 👍🏻
Buzzers - have to be my best flies - thanks for the recommendations, it all gets stored away for my next fishing trip - brilliant!
Buzzers are a key fly for sure, deadly in many forms. Can’t beat straight lining them just keeping in touch with your line, and getting that savage take you get on naturals!
Your Videos are very good you talk the language that people can understand please keep the Videos coming excellent
Grace Heuchan - thank you Grace, I’m glad you are enjoying them!
For me it's the cats whiskers!!!!. That's for uploading. Kind regards Mike. Norfolk. 🐟🐟
Mike Saul - a killer pattern Mike, especially as we approach winter! 👍🏻🎣
Great tips thanks! I’ve always struggled in the hotter summers months. Can’t wait to try out your tips.
No problem, hope it helps you bag a few more! 👍🏻🎣
Great video very helpful black and holo green buzzer is my no 1 fly
Thanks David, I’m glad you found it useful. Nice choice of buzzer!!
GREAT ADVICE FOR A NOVICE WITHE 100S OF FLIES BUT USING THE WRONG ONES. HOPE TO START GETING SOME RESULTS IN FUTURE

Welcome back to fly fishing! 👍🏻 I’m glad you are enjoying them, and if you think of anything you would like features in a future video just let me know 🎣
I particularly like the idea of the floating Bloodworm. Do you have a video on tying them please?
Don’t have a video yet, but can do. Super simple - red thread, foam body like a segmented daddy, red marabou tail 👍🏻 deadly fished deep and slow
Great video. My top all time fly is the flashback gold ribbed hares ear. Keep the videos coming thanks
Cheers Howard. That’s a killer fly for sure 👍🏻🎣🎣
Great video, really helpful to hear how you fish the flies, I catch most my fish in summer on damsels and hoppers
Thanks Rhys, glad you enjoyed it. Yeah deadly flies for sure, had to be in my top 3 👍🏻
Great advice as usual my go to would be the cdc emerger with ptn on dropper. If deep a yellow or green dancer
Thanks mate. Solid choices! The yellow dancer is another fly that just always delivered, especially like you say going down a bit. I had to include it in the box for the prize, and just didn’t make the top 10!

awesome hints, I love a brown sedge, one of my favs.
Thanks Glen! I love a sedge too, caught so many trout on them last year. Haven’t actually used them as much this year and must do so!

Thank you for the info ive been blanking alot recently. But my go to are the hoppers
No worries Andrew, and blanking in summer isn’t uncommon!! Best thing Is to get there at opening, or last thing in the evening at this time of year 👍🏻
@@TheTroutFlyFisherman thank you for the advice
Great video I will be giving these a try when I am next out thanks 😊 yellow owl has worked well for me. Tight lines🎣🎣🎣

another great video best fly at the moment is the silver humgus
Thanks John, I do like a humongous in the margins when it’s murky, will always bag you fish, especially in the winter! 👍🏻🎣
Buzzers have been my most productive with yellow owl in close second.
David Adams - deadly flies, and a common theme in the comments for good reason!
I must admit, the last few Weeks( Top Fly) was the Cruncher, (Claret)#12, Nice Video,Good Advice,Cheers.
Love a cruncher 👍🏻🎣
Brilliant video. The holographic cruncher has done the damage for me this summer.
Thanks Tom! Yep, cracking fly. I must have 7 variations of crunchers I use regularly depending on the conditions / water clarity, and they all perform well! 👍🏻
Nice video a use seaguar too expensive 24 pound a pop but worth it , fulling mill use to be great for 10 pound ,
Thanks Alan! Yeah it’s worth it for the summer for sure, makes a difference!
This year on draycote orange popper hopper , deadly fished fast figure of 8 lovley wave they just nail it , or take small daddy on dropper , on hang
Great choices. At the moment the big red dries are catching at Grafham 👍
Funny you say that, I watched Tim Joyce’s recent video where he was killing with them, and he’s since sent me a link of the tying. Be interested to see how they perform up here! Future video maybe! 👍🏻
@@TheTroutFlyFishermanUnfortunately I can't tie flies 🤫 but the Barr brothers sell some good pattens. Would be great to see a vid using big reds 👊
Diawl bachs for me this time of year but its usually paired up up with a cruncher or cormorant.. keep up the great content.
Thanks Ciaran, deadly combos, and I’m still thinking why were cormorants not in my top 10 😂
Royal wruff dry fly followed by orange flash back damsel.
Great vids keep up the good work I'm learning loads🎣🎣🎣👍
Thanks mate, i do like a royal wulff and hasn’t been out my box for a while actually, need to give it an outing soon! 👍🏻🎣
Great video and awesome selection of flies, must’ve been tough choosing, my top fly this summer has to be a candy FAB 😍
The Trout Fly Fisherman ...have you fished the watch fishery nr Duns ? Cracking venue/ Reservoir
I haven’t fished it yet, but my dad fished there and really enjoyed it, so it’s definitely on my to do list 👍🏻
Nice video mate, for me booby and Midas are normally not far from my cast. Midas has the ability to change a day great fly.
Thanks Mark. I can’t believe I only started using the Midas recently, really is a game changer some days!!
Stephen McCullough - thanks Stephen, glad you enjoyed it. It’s all about finding what works, and sounds like you have it sussed 👍🏻 tight lines mate!
Great video mate, I do all sorts of fishing but new to fly fishing and your vids really help! keep it up 🎣
Thanks mate, I’m glad they have been helpful, and welcome to the glorious world of fly fishing 👍🏻🎣
This year its been the holographic diawl backs but normaly its the hothead damsel. Loving the vids keep up the great work 👍🐟🎣
Thanks Craig, glad you are enjoying them! Yeah solid choices, and fish them both most days I go out, they really do perform!! 👍🏻🎣
Great video, Im fairly new to the fly fishing game but ive found the yellow owl cdc has worked a treat for me over the summer months.
allan Stewart - definitely a great choice at this time of year, and catches plenty of trout! It’s one of my go to patterns for sure, which I am classing as buzzer for my top 10 😂
@@TheTroutFlyFisherman too right just a buzzer with a quiff
As a total beginner I found this so informative. Please do some beginner videos, we could do with the help
I’m glad to hear that. Let me know what kind of stuff you would like me to include and I will try and get this done soon 👍🏻🎣
I would like help with fly selection, tippet lengths, casting and all other beginner problems. I’m sure you encountered them all and I would love to hear how you got over them. I’m asking this because I don’t know any fly fishermen yet and your help will be appreciated.
Keep up the good work! Most interesting channel I have seen on you tube recently. Cormorants and if I'm on the dries a hawthorn always work for me. 🎣
Thanks Dan, glad you are enjoying the content, really appreciate the kind words. Great choices, still can’t believe cormorants didn’t make my top 10 😂 let me know if there is anything you would like to see in a future video and I will try to film it 👍🏻
Would have to be the yellow owl working a treat for me just now or a washing line with buzzers , keep up the good videos mate 👍
Bobby Thomson - cheers Booby, and solid choices. Lots of people loving the yellow owl, as do I. 👍🏻
Spandex bloodworm a team of buzzers 👌 great videos mate 👍
Jamie Finlay - thanks Jamie! Bloodworm and buzzers are always deadly!! 👍🏻
Cracking videos for a beginner like me, Daddy's and pheasant tails my favs.
Thanks Derek - glad you are enjoying them. Great choices, they will catch you plenty of trout!!
Flash blue damsel or yellow dancer for me!
Lewis Stewart - deadly patterns Lewis, especially now it’s getting colder! 👍🏻
Great selection of flies. Fish with most of them but cruncher doesn't seem to work for me.
Archie Ferguson - I have most joy with them on larger waters, but still productive on smaller waters, I find size 14’s do the most damage 👍🏻🎣
@@TheTroutFlyFisherman I am fishing Menteith next Friday so might give them another try.
My go to cast is a hares ear sussy on the dropper and a small yellow owl on the point my local water is a big water harelaw trout fishery in Neilston 🎣
Nice Tony, bet you have caught a fair few fish on those!! 👍🏻🎣
really enjoying your videos would happily fish PTN / gold head also Damsel all day in the small lakeland waters l fish
Thanks Julian, glad you are enjoying them! Same here, could happily fish that combo all day every day and it will produce plenty fish.
The Trout Fly Fisherman 👍
I am always a fan of a natural non bead head pheasant tail nymph.
I find Muddlers always work as my goto fly
I love a muddler, especially the tiny ones. Great choice!!
Great video.
How do you decide what to start with.
Can you do a video on how to tie droppers, always have tangles
Cheers
Phil
Has to be the daddylonglegs
Good videos keep them up learning a lot.
Cheers Josh. Yep, the daddy will bag you some fish for sure, I like using a weighted version just tweaking it in the margins, does the business 👍🏻
Blue flash damsel yellow dancer and dry s for is the shipmans all day long big red s Midas great video s I would like to c you trying some off your flies thanks mate
Thanks Rob, I hope to do the next video on straight line nymphing which will feature many of these!! 👍🏻
Thanks Stuart, glad you enjoyed the video. Yeah it’s a joke cormorants weren’t in there but harder than it seems! 😂
It's got to be a blue flash damsel on point and a traffic light diawl on droppers for me and of course if they are rising a shuttlecock or a shipmans. Nice vid bud 👍
Simon Lee - cheers Simon, and solid choices. I’m not fishing this weekend and all this talk of flies has me itching to get out! 😂
4th of September is my next trip, up north wales way for 4 days. Should be a good trip 😎
Simon Lee - Nice one, can’t beat a good fishing trip - enjoy!! 👍🏻
Beetle. Can you show a figure of 8 video please. I would like to see if my slow retrieval is actually slow! Beginner here.
Great choice. I had beetle in there to begin with, then replaced it with the Midas based on how well it’s performed! No worries, will feature that in my next video 👍🏻
I’m in can never have to many flys 🤪. I have only really had one summer and this what’s left of this one 😩 so still finding my way. so this video will help me out, but I have to say the Midas has been a killer I have also been killing it on a new fly called the Rosa’s rock chick you should check that out
Thanks mate, that’s a new fly for me, never heard of that one!! Will check it out! 👍🏻
Klinkhammer and small Diawl bach fished New Zealand style
Nice John, the old klink and dink works well! 👍🏻
Foam back daddy absolute killer in the hot weather
Agreed!! I tend to use popper hoppers more these days, but need to dig out the daddies to give them an outing!
Great video thanks. Struggled recently but a mop fly tends to save the day! Do you ever use tippet rings or simply surgeons knot the droppers on?
@@TheTroutFlyFisherman thank you for that brilliant answer and for replying so quickly! I will be giving all this a go next time!
Joseph Nicholson - no worries, and good luck, let me know how you get on 👍🏻
Love your videos man! Would love 2 know do you think the fish can really see the difference in colour?
Cheers Martin! I’m sure that scientists have proved that based on their eye they can see colour. For me from a distance it will be more about silhouette where black stands out a mile or Olive is more subtle. When they get close that’s where I feel colour will play a part, but not as much as a lot of people believe. Size & shape are key, as well as overall colour, but ribs / cheeks etc in my opinion are more to catch the anglers! 👍🏻🎣
Thanks Chris great advice! Good man !!
Yellow owl for me.. Never fails.
slacky247 - yep agree! I was classing then under buzzers for my top 10, and really do perform well! 👍🏻
Got to be a bead head hairs ear with a green thorax or a cdc emerger
Nice Euan, bet those have bagged you many fish!!
Not too bothered about winning your flies mate. Try a flourescent green ribbed DB on a dark and gloomy day and a gold ribbed DB whenever there are fish, any fish, in the water.
No worries Dave. I have them in more colours than I could ever fish, but don’t think I have fluorescent green! Will tie a couple up!
Diawl Bachs are good for me buddy, If I don't win the box how much to buy it?
I love a Diawl bach, and my wife is Welsh too so I need to improve my pronunciation! I only tie what I use as with 2 small kids my spare time is limited, but if I do decide to sell in future I will let you know. I still buy flies, then copy what performs well.
Great video mate
Cheers mate! 👍🏻
Good luck and let me know how you get on 👍🏻
The Trout Fly Fisherman thanks, will do. Here’s the link to the fly m.ua-cam.com/video/xA10DPJOLBE/v-deo.html
Jon Milling - Nice one, thanks 👍🏻
Another great video, keep up good work and no snatcher in your top 10 ?
What has happened to the Trout Fly Guy, no seen him for some time really enjoyed the videos
Had to take some time out, but videos will be starting again very soon 👍🏻🎣
size 14s yellow owl all day long dry fly
Iain Ogilvie - cracking pattern, and a go to fly for me too! 👍🏻 I’m classing them as buzzers under my top 10 😂
Hate to admit it but it's a fab. Wish it was a buzzer or dawl, but it's not. 😭
stuart lowe - mate if it’s catching fish it’s all good! They are a must for me too on big waters for on the intermediate with a washing line 👍🏻
This year it has been a foam emerger.
Always do the damage! I like one on the point of a washing line from time to time too 👍🏻
Black dancer killer
Great for murky water that too! 👍🏻
Cruncher
There is only one king of dry flies,, LUNNS PARTICULAR TIED SPENT,,,,,,
