@@adamofgrayskull7735 I couldn't stop laughing at that! :) And, did you know he now promises a new video every three weeks too, amazing eh!!! It's all the research, script writing and deciding on how to present it in an "engaging way" that takes the time apparently. How Jimmy got 1 million subscribers is beyond me, just from that viral Atlantis video I suspect.
There's so much in China and India that blows my mind. Im glad you're covering this! Looking forward to see more from you about this part of the world :)
The difference between the lower structure and the upper is noteworthy. The style and detail of the feet and hands is way more rounded and refined, almost lifelike. The style and detail of the head and face is clearly from another group of carvers.
Watch "Curious being"'s channel on this Leshan Giant Buddha. She explains the abnormalities on the site, including the machine tool marks and quality of the Buddha head, and how the Buddha might be a later work on an existing prehistoric megalithic quarry site.
Look at curious being, she explains the buddhas history also, BUT she also shows the ancient toolmarks found on sight. She realy open our minds to the ancient past ! Love your work !
I may be an Egyptophile, but I really enjoy your fascinating excursions to other parts of the world. Thanks for another interesting and informative video.
I went to the leshan Buddhist site on mountain I think just after they finished restoring it, one thing they don't mention is how cool the rest of the mountain is there's underground caves with other giant buddhas and tons of temples and shrines to bodhisattvas and other buddhas. my favorite part was all the pilgrimage caves were monks would stay overnight and meditate, they were essentially just humble holes carved into the wall of the sandstone. Definitely worth seeing I truly eye-opening experience.
Another very interesting video, China has been on my bucket list for some time too, the more I read about it the more I want to visit. So many fantastic places!!! Thanks Matt.

My "favourite" is the one about the SECRET!! DARK PURPOSE!! the Freemasons formed America. THE SECRET!! DARK PURPOSE!! that's so SECRET!! that they have UA-cam ads about them.......Yeah.
You'd think especially with what a popular tourist site that it is, that they'd rebuild that wooden covering to protect it, or just build some new covering. Heck when they were doing restoration work would've been a perfect time for it. People always seem to go for the quickest and cheapest route these days.
Thank you so much for the video. It's amazing what we can do together, sad the mongrels destroyed as much of it as they could. please continue to do your great work. I enjoyed learning about this I hope the best for your loved ones and yourself
Thank you for the video. I notice lots of holes on the side walls, some large and rectangle. Perhaps part of the building process. Other large structure, that has been destroyed, show that they were not just cut out of stone, but build in some places. Are there any descriptions on how they created the statue?
Another good video, if you stop by giza any chance you could get some closeup video of the outer casing stone from the top of the pyramid , the weathering may give some kind of new outlook into dating , even better if possible a sample because it hasn't really been touched since it was under water, with the dating given as it is now is looking at the sphinx and pyramids of the weathering as we see it when for how long outer casing stood through time lasted isn't really mentioned, maybe a metals test(possibly there could be gold in it , depending on who or what mined it) from the outer casing stone the top.
Why didn't they rebuild the shade structure ? Sandstone is easy to work which makes it degrades quickly. Those vines and shrubs growing in the cracks of the stone will destroy it, WHY do they not work harder to actually keep these magnificent works ?

The statue is this big and they had that many people working on it and they still managed to mess up the proportions of the face. Just look at the eye sockets.
Maybe knowing that would expose it to the elements, or, they probably saw it as something they could destroy out of the two. A massive rock carved statue, or a wooden roof? They might have thought, if they've built a roof over it, it must be important to them, so would probably 'piss them off' if we did it. Just a general nasty attitude I guess.
The rocks were thrown in the River and the current calmed for passing ships... that's how the Lord (if there is one) works, the first guy would have had the thought put in his head and the unintended consequence which is a completely natural effect known only by the entity that put it there. That is a Huge statue. I wonder what people will think if it ever goes dark again and we start over. That is not going anywhere. it will probably outlast the pyramids.

My question is why would the Mongols destroy the wooden structure covering the Buddha? Of all things
I thought when the Mongols conquered most they let him keep their religion.
I am guessing for the construction materials.
