My hound was very reactive when I adopted her. It took 3-4 months for her to understand that we would continue the walk if she calmed down and now she's amazing 90% of the time. Floppy couldn't have found a better home! 😍
Wow! That's a journey to be compassionate with. I wish you the kindness to continue to assist him. Thank you for sharing. And best continuing through the journey.
My retired racer took about 2 years to forget about the things that had happened to her & to stop biting people who came into my house. She developed her own technique, for dealing with new people: Gracious greeting, off to bed (safe place), then get up after new person was approved & see if tey'd brought treats or liked to scritch the itches. Bless you for being a foster fail w/ Floppy, I hope he continues to relax. Love how he removes the Thunder Shirt ("Just b/c they call me "GREYhound doesn't mean I have to wear grey---I'd look so nice in kelly green!")
Oh Jill, you are such a gift to sweetie Floppy!! Thank you for taking such good care of your brood-they are all beautiful pups. Sending you good thoughts 💕😇from Jean.
He is so much like our boy Finley. Very smart, but anxious. He wore off his lower canines chewing the wire in the racing kennels. You are doing a wonderful work with Floppy!
Thank you! and cuddles for Finley! I sometimes think the brighter ones cope worse, The better balanced ones I've had were more 'happy go lucky' but not the smartest cookies.
@@jwcaninecare Thank you! Fin has come on so well in the last year and a half. Med’s for anxiety have helped too. Having a female brindle who is happy go lucky as you say has helped him as well. As Fin is smart and very fond of food we had to put a child lock on the pantry door as he very quickly figured out how to open doors!
Well, Floppy has become quite the UA-cam superstar! He is so handsome. I hope that he gets calmer in the year to come. You have done so much to help him. I hope that he gets over the anxiety around toileting. Thank you so much, Jill
You are amazing Jill. Your patience and acceptance and understanding are unbelievable. I learn something new from every video I watch and also gain confidence from hearing what you have to say. We've experienced a slight regression recently with our grey but hearing this can happen has heartened me. Thank you for your wisdom.
Wow, floppy is so clever at getting his coat off! He is so sensitive and intelligent. I LOVE him, but it must be challenging to live with this beautiful dog. My Madge is a very complicated soul too, and very sensitive. It took 5 months to get her house trained when I adopted her, but it turned out her tummy was full of worms! Ugh! I have had her 4 years now, and she will be 7 on the 21st of March. she is very reactive when we meet other dogs, but only because she wants to be friendly it seems. xxx
His underbite is something special. Weird question about the anxiety, but does that persist if he walks in a pack? Our nervous girl got much better once she had some walking buddies who reassured her that nothing wrong was happening if she saw another dog. She even managed to relax well enough to make new friends by herself! E: With regards to the "broken goods" comment, I swear the most special dogs are the ones that are the most challenging, as long as you're up for the challenge!
Having company definitely works with some dogs - Jim is a good example of this, I cant actually walk him on his own, or even leave the group by more than a few metres. Sadly it makes no difference with Floppy, his issues are just too extreme
❤ Happy 1 year Floppy xxx Jill, I was going to suggest walking him with the calmest member of the pack you have. And then you said you had gandalf in the car. pair him up or take him with as much of the Pack as you can..calm members. This serves every member of the pack to follow the calmest one. This will work. I know that you are the alpha leader... however he will thrive calmly by example. I just know it. Anyway you are the expert, far be it for me to say anything but I just feel it in my guts. Kindest regards and love, Debbie 🙋🐾❤️ ps..I agree with Floppy and I love your family too. Adorable. ❤❤❤❤❤
Sadly Floppy isn't helped by having another dog around, but it can help some so certainly worth checking out as an option if your dog is struggling :-)
Good for you for persevering with Floppy. He is lucky you came along.
much perseverance required with this one!

That is awesome! Just waiting can definitely be enough to help them to calm down and feel its OK to continue

You're a very lucky boy Floppy to have Jill as your hooman.
I hope he appreciates us ;-)
@@jwcaninecare It looks like he does Jill.. clearly he's found his hoomans and he knows where he belongs. Wonderful to see.
