- I thank you for checking out this video, Im just your average guy having Fun with tools. I test tools out to see what these tools can do, and what they can't do. Please Subscribe to the channel and get that tool fix here. Have a great day!
As someone who uses hammer drills daily. It’s important to pull the bit up every 3/4 inches of drilling. Clean the hole as you go. Will make your drilling go more smoothly
And do not push the drill. Keep easy pressure and let the drill do the work
I will do that for now on, cleaning the holes darting the tests is a good idea, thanks bro
I totally agree! Keep the hole clean by pulling the drill bit back up regularly. Drills quicker, saves battery and wear on the drill. I own the Te6 and SF6H Hilti's without Nuron. I can't think it would benefit me much, is very expensive and the batteries are bulky. Maybe if I was in heavy construction but I am a Maintenance manager and don't constantly use drills. The Hilti gear is impressive though.
Dave.
Yes, but then you have to start timing your pulls so it doesn't influence the final result. 😉
Do I put the drill in reverse when I’m pulling up?
Always enjoy a good Roto Hammer video. Hilti killed it but that Atomic was impressive man. Nice work Dave. Really enjoyed the video buddy✊
I thank you INT
Hey What up Brandon cool to see you over here @Impact Nation Tools
@@AntonioClaudioMichael Yo yo bro. What’s up Antonio. If there’s a Rotary Hammer video I’m there brother ✊. How’s life treating you man? Hope everything is good with you and the fam
@@IMPACT-NATION doing okay Brother Fam is good just work work work ya know how it is
@@AntonioClaudioMichael I most certainly do
Just helped my rock climbing brother select that wee Dewalt for bolting routes: the weight makes it an easy choice for that kind of work. Have used it already with tapcons on really hard concrete: easy going for that. The light weight helps with accuracy when working up a ladder: have one on order for myself now too, to complement my DCH333 Flexvolt.
They have a 12v version also
Thank you for this video. Not many other reviewers of SDS. Use them daily. Its not the one which is fastest, it's the one which I can use overhead the easiest (light and compact)
you are welcome Ann :)
Got this dewalt last year, it's handy. I like the quiet factor the most about it, I can do jobs at odd hours without getting noise complaints.
Ryobi just released their version too, can't wait to test that one out when I get it.
Yup for $110 that dewalt is way cool.
Nice point on the noise. More joules = more pissed-off neighbours.
Hilti makes the best hammer drills IMO
Can you test them with small bits too. Like 1/4 and 3/8. I think that's where the 5/8 class hammer drills shine. They don't hit as hard, but they spin faster
I will from here on out
One test I’d like to see is how they do over head. I recently had a job installing conduit/boxes in a parking garage and it was all over head work. Would be nice to see how they do when the weight of the tool is pulling them down vs pushing down.
At risk of sounding like a total Hilti fan boy - honestly, becuase I use their tools I just check out their other stuff too - Hilti make an exo-skeleton to make over-head work much easier. My lack of shoulder muscles make changing wiring of a light fitting painful work after a few mintues - I don't know how you can go all day installing conduit overhead!
@@natdenchfield8061 it wasn't all day doing it and doesn't happen often. usually, the electricians do it for us or we do down the wall installs. I was just saying in almost all reviews for these tools they do them in the most optimal way possible not really showing a more difficult situation where the weight of the tool is more on the user's hands/arms.
Another interesting test, i love industrial grade like hilti
Next stuff, how about doing comparison other sds bits brands with same drill
And for the battery drill, maybe you can add runtime test, so we can have a choice n decide what the best battery going last
Sorry for my bad english, greeting from Indonesia 🇲🇨
Suggestion: put the brand and model numbers in the video title (or at least in the description) to make them easier to find via UA-cam search. It will also make it more likely that UA-cam will recommend the video to people who watch other videos about similar tools.
Pretty impressive for the size of those tools.
The power stacks are impressive and I’m also waiting for bigger batteries like the 5.0 Powerstack but I think that atomic rotary hammer is pretty weak. Dewalt should release a new XR version with chipping function. That’d be sweet 😎
I can't wait for the 5ah as well
Dewalt DCH293 is what youre looking for. Its a work horse for sure.
This video has a Project Farm vibe to it. I'm digging it👍
I thank you Shadetree
Very Cool Gang Gang💪
Yes sir :)
Keep up the great work bro
I thank you Logan
If you want to test battery capacity, you really need to use a multimeter or (even better, because that's what matters to the user) use the tools until they stop working, because the "bars" generally don't use a perfectly linear scale (i.e., two bars doesn't mean you have exactly half the charge left, and the energy corresponding to "two bars" on one battery might show as three - or one - on another).
4:06 - That part doesn't seem particularly problematic, you can just get a longer drill bit. A bigger issue is, if the bit is really long, the vacuum nozzle probably won't reach the tip, so it won't suck the dust at all until the hole is half way done. So, you're generally better off with a separate dust collection ring (that stays on the wall, and probably only limits the depth by 1" or so).
correct, but if you use this size of SDS you will mainly need to a few inches or so, im not saying that you will only do a few inches for every hole. but these will be. good for most realistic situations
Cool Dave 😎
Just to point out that with the Hilti and it's 4 bar lights, that 2 bar power light means it is somewhere between 25% and 50% power. with the Dewalt and it's 3-bar power light, it is somewhere between 33% and 66% power when showing 2 lights.. So for all anyone knows, the Dewalt was at 33% power after the tests and the Hilti at 50% power after the tests.. There's an overlap there so much so that you can't really say one drained any more than the other.
The psychology of the number of bars left however is normally that one reads it as having the maximum of that indication left - one thinks when they see 2 out of 3 bars that it must have 66% battery left. The fewer bars you have on the metre, the more of a trick it plays on you. The more bars, the more accurate it is - if you can call to the nearest 25% being accurate.. :D
and finally i notice that the TE-4 is available to actually buy! That took a while..
the Dewalt is a 3 bar system and the HILTI is a 4 bar system. so the amount of bard remaining is irrelevant, I need to figure out a way to have actually see the percentage of remaining battery
@@ManCaverTools Percentage can also be a bit irrelevent in the real world unfortunately. It's probably just an estimate based on battery voltage reading and some average of what that means in some constant drainage curve, if you see what I mean. And those chosen curves will be different between manufacturers.
The total energy left in the battery can be worked out by a constant drain and a log of voltage, to create a curve, and the area under the curve is the energy. There are RC car battery units that do that, for competitive racing - so that people can figure out the best charging for their batteries etc. I'm not sure what voltages they cater for.. you mght be able to adapt one for tool batteries (if it's actually a worthwhile endevour!)
As you probably know, the higher the current delivery for a lithium battery, normally the less total energy it can deliver. It gets worse the closer you get to the particular cell type's maximum current delivery. I guess that's why brands have been moving away from the 18650 cells with less max current than others so you can push the tool whilst keeping away from the max - why batteries with two or more parallel sets of cells deliver more than just the sum of their Amp/hour figures as the cells are experiencing half the current load for the same power.
Good review, but the drills are not in the same class. The Hilti has 2,3 Joules vs the 1.4 on the Dewalt. Hilti really doesn't have a direct competitor for the Dewalt in their line-up.
$1000 Hilt vs $150-$200 Dewalt
dch273 with 2.1 joules
as well as i still want to see the comparison between "Killer Bee" Dch172 Vs Hikoki Dh18dpb
Beside i impressed with the power from Hilti Compact Rotary Hammer
I get hilti when dealing with concrete or for a digging hammer. I get dewalt for hammer drill, angle drill, and impact wrench, etc. I get choose rigid when it comes to pro press
Hilti is the only way
I use Hilti tools for basic carpentry, scenic carpentry for events: installing set and stages for conferences, fashion shows etc, and they are great . The barrel grip jigsaw is a very stong performer in particular. I use an impact driver mostly and when I compare to other brands colleagues use, I find - for me - it has the perfect blend of speed /impact drive so that it doesn't go into impact too soon and feels comfortable long-term whilst still driving up to 100mm screws as fast or slightly faster than others.. The only thing I've felt is that they are a little lower torqued than some other brands.. but i rarely come across situations where I need more torque except some hole saws holes get done quicker with other brands.. Good power but lower torque.
But, that's on the A22 battery platform. Judging by this channel, the Nuron platform has really pushed their torque performance from low to mid-table in many tests to the top! Mine Nuron tools arrived from the US last month but I've not yet pressed them into service (only just available on pre-order here in the UK, but the price is much higher.. e.g. SF 4-22: $129 in US (up from $116 when I ordered), £181/$205 in UK - I really have no idea why! )
New video, yes!
Hilti for the win on this one atleast the dewalt has a depth rod
great video. you didn't mention the Hilti te-4 NOW has the ATC to help prevent injury while drilling holes.
that feature is standard now.most tools have it. that's like mentioning a keyless chuck.
Good head to head Dave
Mate can you make a video of it doing chiseling bewalt see drill you used.
These SDS hammer drills dont have a chisel feature unfortunately
Would like to see this done with a 5ah powerstack. The atomic loves that battery. I jus did a job where in total we had to drill 650 1/4" holes (which this is really in range of wat its designed for) and the normal 5ah died after 2 1/2 doors complete and the 5ah powerstack completed 4 doors installed cuz of the power difference and drilling faster. I was really impressed. And if you really want dust extraction dewalts solution is a separate canister with a shoulder strap thats powered with its own battery that is universal for any rotary hammer
I really do need to get that 5ah battery soon
@@ManCaverTools ebay and offerup where i have gotten them. Got 5 so far
Dave I have a request slash video idea. Kobalt next Gen is dropping. Could you do a Lowes budget showdown between non XTR Kobalt, Skil, and Craftsman RP? No sense running DeWalt and Flex since they would win. Maybe throw Bosch and Metabo HPT in the mix too. Thanks.
yes I will :)
I’m liking the type of video… but concrete without Bosch? Kind of disappointing
I wil be getting Bosch's sds. I want one from all brands now :)
GBH18V-20N, would be the closest Bosch equivalent to these… also I think it would be better if you included the prices for each, and the prices for the batteries. I think this is one of the most over looked things on reviews. So many people don’t think about the cost of batteries if they are thinking about switching and not everyone has them laying around of each brand. You don’t have to harp on it but throwing up a quick spreadsheet of break downs showing drill price and battery prices at the time of the video would be huge, and people will start to see the true cost of ownership. Just some thoughts to think about on your videos.
Ohhhh and the Bosch has the chipping(plus it’s normal priced at $199, but on sale for a while for $159) neither of the two you ran are in that ball park of features & value at that price.
The dewalt xr is the equivalent to the hilti
That will be coming as well. Hilti also has a more powerful SDS. This TE 4 their weakest one
Daamn i can't believe how cheap Hilti is in the states! that thing's gonna be like 800 bucks here in Oz :(
I bought some Hilti Nuron basic tools for my work (combi drill, impact driver and jigsaw) from the US before they came out in the UK (not too sure if they are actually out yet even now.. ). The UK prices are crazy: Hilti SF 4-22: $109 (when I bought it in May), now £181 in the UK .
Would like to see 12v rotary hammer drills battle
I will be getting it this fall. im curious myself
Hilti 👍
Hilti is the most powerful hammer drill machines in the planet without any competition I have used them they swallow concrete as batter 😂😂😂
I like Hilti but the price of their ecosystem deters me. You'll still get a quality product with dewalt for a few hundred off the price of equivalent Hilti tools
Compare dewalt 273 ?
Try out the Flex rotatory hammer
it be faster if u used a Hilti bit
Is the TE-4 even going to get released?
not sure why its
not on the website
@@ManCaverTools It’s not available yet.
What carbide bits do you recommend?
we will find out in the future
Bosch bits are the best bang for the buck. The Diablo(owned by Bosch) are very good also
Hilti bits are great but sooooo expensive! I own the Te6 A22, not Nuron, and it's really impressive. Has a great chiselling capability too!
Dave.
in 2022 hilti same biggest battery size but not biggest power
The Dewalt Rpm Is 1060
the Home Depot website says 1,100 RPM
Hilti is known for 2 things. Being really expensive, and being specialized in concrete work. I feel like any other outcome would be kinda sad tbh.
I doubt anyone cares but I kinda miss the old format of the channel. There used to be alot of emphasis on these tests not being "scientific", but now it seems to take after other channels who do it that way regardless. I dunno, I just feel like it doesnt suit you as well as previous iterations. But oh well, its not by any means the first thing to change, and im sure it wont be the last. At the end of the day we are still watching holes in stumps, right? Now just with more graphs and less charm (imo).
Its cool that the production value has gone up, but I still remember that time you were genuinly happy over a Ryobi beating a more expensive DeWalt. Thats the kind of memorable stuff I think is disappearing more and more. But thats just my 2 cents, if it works it works.
Good luck man!
im sorry bro. The channel had to change :( but hopefully it will get to you, I was skeptic about it as well, but now I love the new formate
@@ManCaverTools Dont be! I totally get that, I just wanted to air some thoughts as someone who has been around since what, 2k subs, through name changes and RR and all that :)
Painfull to watch
To much preasure aplied to the tool also driling at an angle and wigling it constantly
Lol man, so funny how you copy the project farm comments 🤣😂
you mean saying the what's happening on screen how every other channel that tests tools out does?
Hilti commercial.
Look how the Hilti jumps around more than the Dewalt as you push down harder on the Hilti.
Dude, your integrity is sus. I wouldn't subscribe to a channel I suspect is lying to me in a product review.
keep telling yourself that.
Every video I do on any brand, viewers I say im a schill for whatever brand wins. Even Ryobi.
The atomic range is crap
