How disgusting that Russian supporters were allowed to "celebrate" Russian atrocities, in Germany. During WWII, would democracies have permitted public gatherings to celebrate Hitler's Germany with music and dancing?

German here. We will definitely not so quickly prohibit celebrations regarding the liberation from the Nazis on May 8th/9th, however are our own feelings towards those Russians or what the feelings of Ukrainian refugees are. This freedom is an essential pillar of an open society, the opposite of an autocracy or dictatorship.

Sadly there are a lot of brainwashed people in Germany (see above) who believe that the occupation, gang rapes, murders, gulag death camps were only a few returned, ... were "liberation." If Germany valued freedom, they would actually allow free speech and inquiry rather than sending peopel to prison for it. They would not persecute nationalists and patriots but they would instead make sure that fifth columnists that celebrate "Victory Day" would be firmly but politely shown the door.

@@rambleon2838 You forgot that Germany was liberated from the Nazis. We don't have big celebrations, but several smaller ones all over the country. Certain things regarding Nazism are forbidden, but definitely not celebrations remembering its fall.
Likely laws exist which prohibit celebrations of těrr0rist attacks like October 7 2023. Nevertheless I assume peaceful pro-Palestinian demonstrations would even be possible on that date, as long as they do not glorify těrr0rism.
