      Psychiatrists (not primary care or general family doctors) do train in mental illness and do a residency in that area which is their specialty. However many have no idea what depression feels like personally because they themselves have not had it. Education and research are great and often that's the limitation (for example I can't nor would want to give myself a heart attack to be a cardiologist). I had many depressive episodes and ultimately went back to school for a counseling degree so understand it from both a personal and professional view. I have seen many that don't understand through no fault of their own.

    Recommend a 2-5% taper every 2-4 weeks. This is EXTREMELY important. Many times, withdrawal is delayed so you may be doing large cuts and feel great, actually better than ever but just be blindsided with severe, debilitating withdrawal weeks or months later and at that point it's often too late to reinstate so it's a waiting game. Please be aware most doctors follow old tapering guidelines and the majority in this group going through withdrawal did follow their doctors tapering advice.

    • @OreElect1
      @OreElect1 3 роки тому +1

      @a s
      I've been at it for over 3 years.
      I am about 82% complete.
      Being extra sensitive and on for 25 years my taper's are 2% every 4+ week's.
      Rule of thumb. 1 year taper for every 5 year's on. For some I've met even longer.

    • @OreElect1
      @OreElect1 3 роки тому

      @a s
      Absolutely better. Best decision I've ever made. My worst decision was listening to my doctor's advise and his prescribing them without informed consent of what I was getting into and all the health issues I would get from them.

    • @OreElect1
      @OreElect1 3 роки тому +1

      @a s
      Yes. NO more than 2-5% every 2-4+ week's from the last dose.
      1 year taper for every 5 year's on.
      For some, longer.
      Hold as needed. Never taper if having withdrawal symptoms.
      I know several who specialize in tapering and also I am in groups who follow these tapering guidelines.
      Most doctor's are totally clueless and follow old tapering guidelines that is to fast and are dangerous.

      All antidepressants are neurotoxins. Antidepressants do not cure anything. They all have hundreds of side effects and the side effects can pop up at anytime. Some of the side effects can be permanent and last long after the antidepressant is stopped like Tardive Dyskinesia, tinnitus, and sexual side effects. Antidepressants actually increase the risk of suicide in people of all ages (not just young adults), they are linked to worst long term outcomes compared to those who do not take antidepressants for their anxiety and depression. The chemical imbalance theory is not true but rather a marketing ploy by big pharma. Antidepressants also all need to be slowly tapered and can cause debilitating withdrawal symptoms that can lasts for years in some cases if someone doesn't taper safely. The issue would be to try to find the root cause of your symptoms. If not caused by trauma then anxiety and depression are thought to be symptoms of something physically going on in the body. It could be nutritional deficiencies or allergies, hormonal imbalances such as Thyroid disease or vitamin D or other vitamin deficiencies, heavy metal or chemical toxins, Lyme disease, genetic defects such as the MTHFR gene variations, histamine intolerance, previous medication toxicity, bad gut health, brain trauma, systemic inflammation and oxidative stress, unbalanced blood sugar levels and more.
      If you can find a functional or integrative doctor then they can do the testing to find the root cause of your symptoms. Antidepressants only mask symptoms and damage a person's health while they do not realize it. Any part of the brain and body can be affected so many doctors do not tie health problems with the antidepressant.

    I told my Dr to prescribe me Sertraline, only use the office to send my new scripts. I know more then my Dr's about mental health and nutrition. I decided what mg to start at and when to up my dose, settled on 100mg now and feel the best I've felt in 35 years. I'll also decide when, if, it's time to taper off but right now I have no desire to be off them. Be proactive in your treatment, don't sit back and accept everything, learn.

Last year I stopped taking one of them (under my doctor's directions) and I didn't feel a thing. Now I'm only taking three pills and they are working good. My mom keeps telling me I should finally stop taking them all, that I'm addicted, that they aren't good for me etc. But I know I'm not an addict, I hate having to take my meds. Yeah man...not post but ongoing sari sexual dysfunction is a reality atleast in males. I have lost sexual desire considerably since I have been on SSRIs. But it's okay as long as it's helping with depression and anxiety.

      My dr said the same thing, then told me I was the only one that's had this problem. I called his a lier. He don't like me now. And the councilors bring out the dsm5 book. It says right here.

    He's a lier. I've been trying to come off them a year! And I have suisidle thoughts everyday! They never told me I would have to take them the rest of my life. And the anger and moodiness is terrible. Research it it's not good. I'm not the only one going through this either.

      Kimberly Dawn, How are you now? Avoid benzos as they are habit forming. Have a goal to take only one ADS of the lowest mg which usually does not have side effects. Tapering off takes more than a month. To feel better reduce negative thoughts and overthinking. Your breathing is closely related to the brain [mind] and gives good relief from stress-anxiety. To relax sit on a chair or lie down, neck straight, eyes closed and observe the sensations of your incoming--outgoing breath at the entrance of the nostrils for 5-10-15 minutes or more. Don’t fight your thoughts. With daily practice the mind will relax. No deep breathing needed. Observe your breath sensations when taking a walk, before sleep, in college, at work, in the kitchen, when reading, etc. Like me, make this a lifetime daily habit to have a better life. Reduce negative social media, take morning sunlight walks and avoid constipation as it affects the mind instantly. Best wishes--Counsellor.
