  • In this video I will be discussing guided wave radar level measurement or GWRs as they are often referred to in industry. I will introduce what a guided wave radar and how they are used to calculate the readings of both bulk and interface level.
    We will look at how they are mounted to vessels and go through some of the basic setup items including advantages and disadvantages over other level measurement instrumentation in industry.
    I'll then talk about Echo curves and how these can be interpreted in order to solve issues with the setup including Dielectric constant selection, incorrect threshold values and how to set the UZN (Upper Null Zone)

    That is the best video I have seen so far, there is so little content about instrumentation yet this is highest quality video. Keep going sir, love it!

    Good idea for a next video would be the difference types of values encountered in Oil & Gas for example SDV’s (Shut down valves) FCV’s (Flow control valves) & PCV’s (Pressure control valves), BDV (Blowdown valves) Vent valves and Bypass valves, also can mention I/P control for Actuation of valving. Types of Actuators, Single or Duel Piston? You could also mention Gas Compression and how it works with Gas Turbines. I used to work for a Gas Turbine company so can definitely point you in the right direction.

      Hi Jurassic Sparks. That's a great idea. I'll definitely stick it on the list of video ideas. I do want to do some gas compression videos as it's a huge topic. Thanks for showing an interest in the channel!

    Very good, I haven’t encountered this type of level measurement yet, it’s mostly ultrasonic & pressure at my place of work but it’s always handy to learn something new. Great video though, could I suggest making a video on the commissioning and principles of ultrasonic level measurement? Keep up the good work!

      Thanks Lee. Always good to see you comment. Hope you are doing well! What industry do you work I'm Lee?
      I havent seen an ultrasonic transmitter since I was onshore but will gladly do a video. In fact I'll do it next seems you asked and always comment on my videos. Take care bud and keep a look out.

    This is the best video explaining the echo curves, I am having an issue of sudden 100 reading and it got stuck for a long time then recover back to normal. In a vessel that seperates condensate from gas. What do you think?

    • @InstrumentationControl
      @InstrumentationControl  2 роки тому

      Thank you. Is the transmitter located in a bridle? Condensation around the top of the probe can cause full range issues. Look at the echo curve, maybe consider false signal suppression if appropriate.

    How would you go about calibrating it for precise measurement? Have a GWR on a 30ft oil tank. Tank reading is 20 ft gauged, GWR shows 19ft

      You can change your probe offset or play around with your range values if its a static error across the range of the transmitter.

    Not quite right, Radar relies on DC or Dielectric Constant of the material being measured not density ultrasonic measurement relies on density of material .
