Arroyo and Jacoby George also sat out the second half. You also had 3 of the 4 starting receivers not playing at all, and they weren't at the game. Cam Ward scored 31 with mostly backup receivers. I think he will do well at the next level.
I believe he only came in for two plays. The third and five, that was converted to a first down with Emory and the Hail Mary. I might have missed a couple of others, but I saw him with his helmet off I the sideline. He is gonna be drafted very high. I was surprised he played at all. I, for one, am grateful for Arroyo, Ward, and JG for playing in this game. They could have bowed out like so many others did, which affected the performance of teams in the Bowl games, not included with the playoff. Now comes the off-season, and we need a QB....
Canes fans should be happy he played the first half. It was already planned he was playing the first half. Mario should have had a game plan ready for the second half. To be fair, one of the reasons in recent years that true college football fans have started making the complaint, that bowl games don't matter anymore, is *because* of the players more frequently choosing to sit out of the games. You're not wrong that there were people complaining for years that there were too many bowl games and that most of them, outside of the marquee ones, were meaningless. For those complainers, maybe *they* should sit out of this discussion, no pun intended. This particular game, though, in spite of the silly but fun Pop-Tarts branding, was probably the biggest non-playoff bowl game, so, for the college football purist, you hate to see teams not giving it their all. But honestly I see a lot of work that needs to be done both sides of the ball and also a new defensive coordinator coming in possibly reconstructing the defense and the portal needs to be worked we need a couple of receivers and the rest definitely just defense needs to do a ton of drills and USE COMMUNICATION.
If this was a decision made by Cam and the university then they should have made it public knowledge because someone in his circle or from the university should have known this would be a horrible look. They don't get to use that if he gets hurt in the second half then what scenario because it worked out. He could've gotten hurt anytime in that first half.
