Nice to see one of the old P86 trains in the old DLR colours still too. Doesn't look too different inside either. I remember riding on one of these with my gran to see Canary Wharf being built when I was about 6.
I hope they clean it up and keep it original. All other P86 have been heavily modernized. 5211 is the last remaining orginal P86. Someone told me that 5211 may already under modernisation. I hope this information is wrong.
there is a door alarm at 4:33 It only goes off when the driver forces the doors to close. But I disagree! The doors are equipped with photocells and with pressure detector, the doormotor isn't very strong so it isn't dangerous after all.
very nice, I like to remember to things of my childhood when I now see them in videos. One of these things is the Grigoleit-lift at the RSL school, which I filmed (search my channel to find it). The first time I saw this lift (only from outside!) is when I was 7 ys. Now, as I'm 23 ys, I finally revealed a childhood's secret! It is like to travel back in time.
since the U11 took over the U17 wing to Gelsenkirchen, the original P86 can not anymore run on U11 because that route uses tram tracks on street which original P86 arent allowed to use. The U17 still exists and also has tram sections (it always had) so the P86 can only run on U18. According to "oepnv-city.de" 5204 currently undergoes refurbishment. Before, 5204 was often coupled with 5211. Now after 5204 went into refurbishment, 5211 runs with modified P86 (P86U) and also P89.
these trains accelerate rather fast and reach up to 80 km/h in regular service. The P86 accelerate better than the newer P89 (that one in yellow/blue painting) does. Sadly the modernized P86 (now P86U) also don't accelerate as good as the original P86 ones.
I love your accent. It sounds like you're a German who's lived in London. Henning Wehn from Hagen, a German comedian on the UK stand up circuit sounds similar to you.

these are just swing doors like on a bus. Yes, that is very rare for a tram / metro.

5211 was scrapped in 2016, they wanted to keep it original, but they had no money left for that.
Note that same DLR units today still run as 2/2 but most as 3/3
Der Klang vom Chopper ist ziemlich gruselig, wie in einem Horrorfilm

The converted units (which are in the EVAG livery) have the same type of the doors like the District Line of the Underground in London.

Car 5204 (I don't know the former DLR number) is another one still in it's british colours and operates on line U11.

Love the design of the P86.

ah the doors have photocells and pressure detectors. thanks for your explanation
The Video is nice 👍,I miss the P 86 in blue
Is it me or does it sound like it's playing a chord when it starts moving?!
Alex Reece do you know the BR182, better kwown as Taurus?
And which is the former DLR car number of EVAG 5204?
I think the numbering of the original DLR cars have been taken over and they just put 52xx before it.
So i'ts former DLR number of that EVAG car is DLR 4

I guess so...
Wow
It's driven by a Chopper Circuit or a VFD
originally with a GTO chopper then replaced by an IGBT chopper
strange folding doors
Those aren't folding doors.
They're inward swing, or "slide glide".
