When I first heard that Wendy was doing a solo album one of my first thoughts was that she needed to do a duet with Seulgi about them being friends. When I heard they were doing exactly that with this song I was so happy! Cried through the entire thing when I first heard it.

I'm not discrediting Seulgi because she is an amazing ans very good at vocalist but Wendy is the only main vocal in Red Velvet and many idols and critics also said so that her vocals is different. I would usually call that small gliss up at the beginning of the note a scoop? But this is coming as more of a trombonist than a singer so I'm not sure if there's a better vocalists terminology for it - but yeah, you have to have good technique for that as you were saying to make sure you reach the target pitch well immediately and OR if you don't then you can use a scoop to make it sound stylistic to bring yourself into tune - as long as you get there quickly enough that you don't move on before getting there - it's tricky. I like the point you make about someone singing something well, and someone who is being artistic as a singer - the difference between like singing the notes in tune with good tone vs. creating a musical statement as an artist. The thing I like about Seulgi's tone that I find so interesting is because she's nasal, but much darker than most people who get a nasal quality have and not pinched way? I then came across this really clever youtube creator who does vocal impressions and she does a whole video about the vocal approaches of the Red Velvet members talking about their technique and placement of their voice - I highly recommend it if you get a chance, I think you will find it amusing as well! Seulgi said she studied voices with a fast vibrato though, so I think she cultivated that because that is her preference - still they at the point of this recording had been in Red Velvet for 7 years?
