Quality Time With The New Taylor Builder's Edition 324ce | The most affordable Builder's Edition!

  • At the 2020 Winter NAMM Show, Taylor Guitars unveiled new guitars that expanded their existing collection of Builder's Edition guitars. In that group of new guitars was the most affordable Builder's Edition guitar to date, the new Builder's Edition 324ce. Building on the successful recipe that was first introduced with the Builder's Edition K14ce, the 324ce includes all of the ergonomic features: armrest bevel, cutaway bevel, chamfered edges, silent satin finish and more. The softened wing bridge first seen on the Grand Pacific Builder's Edition guitars is here as well. New to this guitar is a tone wood that is being utilized on a guitar for the first time, Urban Ash! This is Taylor's name for the tone wood that has been sourced from Shamel Ash that was planed in Urban environments and had to be taken down. Always looking for a way to be conservation minded with tone woods, Taylor set out to find a wood form these trees that may be suitable to guitar building. Andy Powers was impressed with this wood and so are we. The tone from the "Urban Ash" has the response of high grade mahogany, with a dry woodiness that when paired with the Mahogany top produces a wonderful ring with a dark earthy tone. Gotoh 510 tuners and Compass inlays round out the guitar that comes with a Deluxe Western Floral Hardshell case.

    I just purchased one of these. It is my dream guitar. Most comfortable, natural feeling guitar I have ever played. Awesome tone. Never thought I would actually own it. Most Taylor models are brighter sounding than I prefer, but this one suits me well. Thanks for the video, love the playing and information.

      Again with the "most Taylor's are too bright" comments. I can't stand that. Maybe there older guitars were but idk, none that I've played in the last 5 years since I started playing acoustic have sounded too bright to me. Maybe you just don't like spruce tops in a GA body. But I assure anyone reading this, Taylor's are very well balanced guitars, I own a 414ce R limited blacktop and it's got it all, big bottom end, slightly scooped but still great mids and the top end is just perfect and not bright in any way. I think people are just on the Taylor's are too bright bandwagon and that's it, their minds have been made up by someone who made that comment 20 years ago so it must be true. Those same people likely have never even picked up a taylor guitar to find out for themselves

      @@HVACRTECH-83 Generally speaking compared to other brands Taylors are extremely bright. That's what gives them their distinct sound. I have 5 Taylors and they are all bright-sounding. 114ce-S, 214ce K DLX, 324ce Builders Edition, 414ce Special Edition, and a GS Mini.

Definitely smooths out my rough edges on the low end when banging out that bass. I prefer the muted nature of the Mahogany sound. And cmon, the guitar is just beautiful.

Needed something smaller. Discovered Taylor and was thinking Grand Concert, but all I do is strum and it prob can’t handle it. The GA is 1/4 inch less deep than mine. Not much difference but still. I’m thinking that the lack of edges and comfort level of this guitar might be helpful. I have NEVER used a pick. Lol. I strum too loud as it is. Couple things: (*Honest feedback) Played this guitar in the store here in Seattle. It felt great. It looks great. It played with a nice, easy touch. It sounded great. Did I mention it looks fantastic? ... Here's the thing though (is it just me?) The marketing of this "Urban Ash" makes me hesitate. I get it that the backstory sounds environmental and all ... but ... the story makes it sound like "Yeah, there were a bunch of these garbage trees that were rotting in an urban environment that had to be removed because they were a nuisance. We were gonna make mulch out of them but then we decided to make premium guitars out of them and charge over $3000.00." Three grand is a lot of money for me. I'd like to think that kind of investment was getting me premium materials. Even having said this, I may still pull the trigger anyway but am also considering the all Mahagony 324ce instead. I'm just being honest here, for that kind of investment the "Urban Ash" thing is causing me to hesitate.

    • @richurro20

      Chris actually said he thinks Urban Ashe is a better Mahagony and prefers it . Says Urban Ash feels more forward - out there tonal-wise. Also none of these 300 series guitars should be seen as investments. They are non limited mass produced Guitars and will lose value the second they are played.

    • @gotenkes
      @gotenkes 4 роки тому +1

      If you think about sounds on a guitar think of the EQ. Mahogany is kinda the compressor of tone woods giving a narrower range of tones that is better if you want the subtle feel of distinct tones. Rosewood opens up the EQ and you get this expansive sound. The best way to understand the tonewoods is to listen to them right after one another. This channel does a good job going through the paces in a consistent way. So give this a listen and then listen to a rosewood back and sides guitar.

    Diseased wood still sounds ok?

    Thank you for this essay.
    I love this guitar but I hesitate between this "Taylor Builder's Edition 324ce" and "Taylor 524ce Walnut Limited Edition".
    What is the best choice ?
    advantage and default?

    Ok is this ash wood a scam or a special new sustainable tonewood? I guess when the robots make it it all sounds the same! I have a Taylor 614ce that had a bridge lift after only 2.5 years, so I traded it for an Eastman I also have a Larivee, never seen those brands on here.

      The wood is legit. There are all sorts of wood that can be good tone woods, it just takes trying. There were other “urban” woods that Andy tried that weren’t suitable.

    I have one on layaway! But before I pull the trigger be honest is this a guitar you would buy yourself or would you save up and get something higher end like an 814?? I played the 324 and instantly fell in love before trying out something in the 3-4 grand range?

    • @garrett3108
      @garrett3108 4 роки тому +2

      Max Allmark Personally, anything above the 400 series is diminishing returns. If you have three grand, this is absolutely the guitar I’d recommend if you want a Taylor. Then again, you can’t go wrong with anything in the 300 or 400 series.
