the “Tube/Diode Rectifier” switch doesn’t change between “Tube/Diode” or “Rectifier”. The options are either Silicone Diodes (up position) or Tube (down position) - they are performing the rectification from the power transformer in the real amp. Rectification is to do with smoothing the AC current from your wall, to the DC current the amplifier runs on. Older amp circuits like old Fender’s and Marshall JTM45’s used a tube rectifier. Later amplifiers like 1959’s and 2203’s (and Soldano’s and 5150’s etc) use silicone diodes. The Dual Rectifier gives you options for both. The tube setting gives a softer, saggier sound and slightly less volume. Silicone diodes are louder, firmer and faster. The labelling on the plugin is somewhat confusing but they wanted to save space and not have any controls on the back. I’d have preferred to have it labelled a bit more clearly, as the GUI makes it look like a choice between both rectifiers or a rectifier (which makes no sense). Regarding the clean channel, the real amp is similarly flat sounding. It gets the job done but the circuit is basically an attenuated crunch channel (like an SLO). The 3 channel versions have a dedicated clean channel that is slightly better but still nothing to write home about.
Oh wow, see what I mean about me “not being studied up” on my Dual Rectifiers 😅 thanks for clearing that up! Also, cool back to back comparison on your channel!
I have a bugera trirec as a backup amp. evh 5150 el34 100 watt is my main. but my backup slaps. I've never been a rectifier fan but in more recent years I've come to learn I've just been approaching them wrong. kinda happy I bought my bugera on a whim. got the whole half stack for $300. the cab isn't awesome tho. anyway these plug-ins are starting to get REALLY good. if I were to specifically want a mesa plug-in, this might be the one. I've never heard of this company before but they seem to be coming out swinging hard. reminds me of neural dsp and that is exciting imo. I've been considering the idea of integrating a laptop and amp sim into my rig for shows or just a preamp pedal and a power stage amp. that way I can stay 100% on my board except the cab or I could go to foh. point being, a laptop is included in consideration. coming from me, thats huge as I've always been 100% tube guy since the 90's. I can still get better tones recording with my amp and cab but there's free plug-ins out there that come so close its scary. and listeners certainly can't tell. its not like someone is gonna hear a recording and say "ooooh that's the free 5150 from ml sound labs. the real amp would have sounded much better" yeah not gonna happen anymore. can't wait to see what the future holds in this subject.
Only recently started messing with recto sounds and am really digging them. Mercuriall is a company that consistently does killer work. This Rectofire sounds badass. Gonna pick that and their Euphoria preamp up whenever they have another sale. Great demo! \M/
ya know what id love to see. preamp pedals that you can load vst amp sims on. maybe edit through an ap....? what I'm talking about could be considered the same as having an amp modeler but some vst's have features that are difficult to recreate. like the new rabea plug-in or the gojira from ndsp. idk I just think its a missed opportunity and only by a narrow margin. think about it. a boss sized pedal with maybe 2 switches, small display screen and no knobs. maybe an fx loop and expression pedal jack built in to control various functions. maybe an xlr out for foh. BUT you load your favorite vst amp sim to it. sale the pedal blank.. leave it up to the user what to put on it. bruh... BRUH!!! The sky is the limit. hell maybe even load up your favorite compressor plug-in on it. or use it like an eq pedal. seriously the options could be ENDLESS. Here i am giving away a million dollar idea. I'm poor, I can't make something like this happen. but I can buy one when someone capable does make it happen. lets go people!
I'm sold. I'd buy a few of these and put some Audio Assault sims on one, Ampbox preamps on another. Besides hardware and CPU architecture concerns the only real iffy moment would be licensing. That would be a pain in the ass to make everyone happy. But I have thought the same thing many times. Just a little stomp, few knobs that globally would be EQ/gain etc. Done.
I used to really dislike the recto sound and I ALWAYS gravitated towards peavey. I still do, but I've recently acquired a recto style amp and It sounds SO mean with an OD in front.
Thanks for checking out the video. This thing definitely screams! I feel like it would’ve done the clean channel more justice had I switched to some single coils. Obviously meant for high gain though.

Nice overview, sir!
Thanks for checking out the video!
Cool demo. Will have to check this out!
I definitely recommend it! Thanks for checking out the video!

It's going to be hard for any amp to beat the Peavey sound for me! Thanks for checking out the video!
I dig it
Thanks man!
Clean sound is not satisfactory. Dull, lifeless, and thuddy. Gain for days. That's whom it's meant for. Want to make it scream? Sounds like fun.

You could say the nailed the rectifier modeling then ;-) Yeah the Rev. G clean channel isn't really "clean".
