Have just done the very same and planted potatoes early into growbags. Indertiminate potatoes need hilling, and determinate grow out as you say, so the pontiac you have just sown are both indertiminate and determinate!!. Thank you for all your advice, Love Vasili's garden, magazines and video's.
My Brown Turkey fig tree is almost as big as your tree and it was under 3 ft tall this time last year in Louisiana. I`ve never seen one grow so fast! I planted another cutting from it in the ground this year, one in a pot, four Celeste, four Dwarf Everbearing Mulberry, and two Pineapple Guava but one of those isn`t doing well because it`s near a roof drain that drips dew each night. I need to move it once the weather cools.
Have been trying to grow potatoes in pots without success. Have potatoes growing in one of your bags and waiting for 3 more to arrive with your potatoes. Hopefully more successful with your bags. Will try your technique.
Pontiac potatoes are Determinate which means they grow below the surface of the soil not up off the stalk. Most early varieties are determinate. Later varieties are indeterminate, which means you have to keep mounding them.
