    Dr. Greger is my favorite plant based doctor. Each of his books is so well researched and yet so easy to read. I have his last three books on Audible and have listened to them several times on my morning walks. Thank you so much for your hard work Dr. Gregor and for sharing your wealth of knowledge with us! And thank you Chef AJ for all you do in helping all of us succeed in our plant based lifestyle and achieving a truly healthy body.

I also have been listening to “How Not To Diet” on AUDIBLE every night when I go to bed and then listen to it again when I wake up. It is fantastic and there is so much information I would never read the whole thing even though I own it. I love hearing your voice read everything too. How long had the vegans with cancer been vegan? Were they pure whole food plant based? Did they regularly excercise (not walking)? Cancer starts decades before it becomes big enough to be detected. They could have eaten pizzas and sausages for most of their lives without more info.

    I was afraid of over diagnoses when my doctor detected DCIS. I have dense breast tissue and without the new technology for mammograms my cancer would have been missed. Just had mastectomy and the DCIS was removed, upgraded to stage 1 invasive. Was just making it's way out one lymph node. I'm so grateful to all the doctors and the incredible technology. I will beat this! But maybe not without these advancements.

    • @sharonknorr1106
      @sharonknorr1106 Рік тому +4

      The oil issue is complicated. Some oils are inflammatory. For folks who are actively fighting obesity, reducing fats can be very important. For those who are already eating mostly WFPB, getting lots of exercise, etc., I honestly don't think, based on the research, that putting olive oil in your salad dressings, for example, is going to do anything terrible to you. Some of the people in the Blue Zones did, indeed, consume a fair amount of olive oil. But they also got a lot of exercise, ate mostly whole foods, mostly plants, had good social connections - the other things that are also important for health and longevity. Demonizing all oils is not necessarily a stance supported by research. Do Seventh Day Adventists consume oil? I have a feeling the answer is yes. It is a package deal.

    Hi dear Aj ,
    you asked dr Greger why some vegans die from cancer and he replied that a vegan diet doesn't guarantee a 100% protection against cancer ! ok that's true.
    Well many vegans don't eat a healthy whole food plant based diet that should be unprocessed and preferably organic ! I know a lot of vegans who eat processed junk vegan food full of additives! just because something is vegan doesn't mean it's healthy !
    Dr Greger wasn't expecting that question I guess !

      This book really helped me. 📚 Gabor Mate: “When the Body Says No. The Cost of Hidden Stress” While we cannot say that any personality type causes cancer, certain personality features definitely increase the risk because they are more likely to generate physiological stress. Repression, the inability to say no and a lack of awareness of one’s anger make it much more likely that a person will find herself in situations where her emotions are unexpressed, her needs are ignored and her gentleness is exploited. Those situations are stress inducing, whether or not the person is conscious of being stressed. Repeated and multiplied over the years, they have the potential of harming homeostasis and the immune system. It is stress - not personality per se - that undermines a body’s physiological balance and immune defences, predisposing to disease or reducing the resistance to it.”

    Ladies, PLEASE don’t fail to have your mammogram as prescribed by your on/gyn. I have lost family members from DCIS discovered at stage four. The metastasis was in the bones and liver and of course the lymphatic system. This was my sister in law in one instance who left behind three children and her loving husband. You WANT to be diagnosed early! Don’t be cavalier about your life. I’m stunned by Gregor’s irresponsible response. Ever hear of invasive ductal carcinoma? And yes, even lifetime WFPB people get cancer and die - do you think you’re going to live forever??? Seems like a healthy dose of reality is in order here.

      Gaylen and all, NO more Memograms. Ultrasound is the only way. The US is so behind, a synopsis of the guidelines was published Nov. 26 by Annals of Internal Medicine. Because the risks may outweigh the benefits, the European Breast Guidelines recommend against annual mammography screening.
      Take yiur brest and squeeze it like a pimple. It's so wrong. Milk dairy is linked the breast cancer...the memogram folks make money and do not want to give up the $$ and the machines. They are old and from Germany Siemens Corporation Worldwide manufacturer of mammography systems including digital & analog mammography systems.

      I am sorry to hear of your losses. I had IDC & DCIS in 2017. I was lucky, stage 1 slow growing IDC. Had the tumor removed. The surgeon & oncologist said don't worry about the DCIS also in that same breast. They also said, don't google stuff it will only confuse you (what they meant was make their job more difficult because I'd ask more questions of them). I decided on a mastectomy with reconstruction to remove the DCIS. I took the tamoxifen for 1.5yrs. (supposed to take it for 5 then switch to another drug....for the rest of my life!!) (Oh & trusted them & didn't google anything) Did everything they suggested as I wanted to be a survivor & a good patient. By accident I watched a Netflix Documentary called What The Health. I wasn't sure what / who to believe after watching it. Was this a bunch of hippie dippy brain washing or was this for real?? I researched every doctor in the documentary. Turns out it's for real! I had always considered myself a healthy eater & was athletic so why was I getting cancer? I asked my doctors what I can do to help myself, they all said nothing, you are healthy. If I was healthy then why was I getting cancer? So, I went WFPB, SOFAS like Chef AJ in 2019. Ate nothing processed. In as little as 2 months all the cysts in my healthy breast disappeared. Both my breasts had had cysts in them ever since breastfeeding. Since having one removed & was planning on doing the other as a preventative measure but not at the same time. I only wish I had done my research before. I could still have my other breast. Yes, I'm thankful for modern medicine, but I do believe there is more that we can do for ourselves than take drugs. I felt awful taking the tamoxifen, my joints were swollen & in pain, I didn't sleep well, I became depressed, I was on edge all the time & there was a high risk of cervical cancer. Sooo, take a drug to prevent one cancer, feel awful & a risk of another cancer, no thanks, I'll take eating plants all day long over that!! If I didn't experience the disappearance of the cysts in my healthy breast I may not be a believer, but, now I AM. I get ultrasounds every year, if they see anything then I'll get a mammogram. Otherwise I'm skipping all the X-rays, momo's & MRI's unless I feel a difference in my body. Everyone needs to educate themselves & do what is best for them. I'm done 'trusting' the lab coats that don't look at the whole picture. Not one doctor through this whole process asked me what my lifestyle was, which includes food, sleep, movement, previous illness (medications used), social life & stress. It's a sick care system not a health care system. They have lost my trust, I'll educate myself & ask a LOT of questions the next go around but hoping there won't be one. All the best to you on your health journey.

      Any thoughts on the science behind effects of radiating healthy tissue yearly (mammograms)? Do mammograms, aka repeated exposure to radiation, cause breast cancer? Why isn’t there a better way?

      It's really a damned shame that just anybody with an internet connection feels that they have the credentials to critique or belittle anyone, or anything these days. Knowledge, or verbal facility, is no proof that you know what in the Hell you're talking about!
      "The craving for equality can express itself either as a desire to pull everyone down to our own level (by belittling them, excluding them, tripping them up) or as a desire to raise ourselves up along with everyone else (by acknowledging them, helping them, and rejoicing in their success)."

    I just went vegan. I’ve been at it for about a month now. And I must say that I’m not sure about it. I was already a guy that didn’t keep weight on my body easily. All I can say is that while I believe I’m doing the right thing for my body, I feel very malnourished! Most people I see that are vegan were already normal sized people or even overweight. These people can probably fast for a couple of days and still appear the same. Not me!! I really feel starved and I will make a decision after seeing a gastroenterologist soon. Unless I’m wealthy enough to hire a vegan chef that’ll count the calories I need and find me everything I can, this lifestyle might not be for me. We’ll see.

All I’ve heard people tell me is that I look thin and even some say sick!! I really gave it a shot man.. I’m back to my chicken breast and fish.. And I’m looking like a normal human being again.. To each his own I strongly believe.. Genetics may be a huge factor in sustaining a vegan diet.. I plan or dropping meat and staying with fish eventually… Thanks though
