Nice save! That’s really where the Creativity kicks in, often my favorite part!
That’s true! Thank you!
I love the bow!!! I was considering getting this pattern but I think I’ll hold off until I have more sewing experience.
Making the bow was a good idea. I like the fabric. Sometimes they pattern instructions do not tell us everything. They assume Sometimes that we will go ahead and put the collar on from our previous knowledge putting on collars. Years ago I was making a blouse. The instructions were poor. I did not finish the blouse. It just was not working out. About a year ago I donated that pattern. You did a good job completing the top. I like the top. You persevered.
Thank you! Yes they assume you already know the techniques! Good thing we have UA-cam to refer back too on tutorials
@@SimplyDelilah That is true. Some patterns do not tell you to stay stitch or understitch. I read through my patterns before I start. If I see they have left something off, I will write that step on the pattern guide.
Wow- that neckline bow was perfect! I will keep that trick in mind for future makes.
yeah its a good hack
THANK YOU for sharing your challenges. I want to take on this pattern for spring and have a better idea of what to look out for. Your dress is very cute on you.
You are so welcome! thank you!
Love it and way to go with the collar! It turn out so super cute!!
Thanks so much! 😊
Delilah, I am currently working on this dress today. I just cut out the fabric for this pattern yesterday. It's funny that I'm watching this video right before sewing this dress so I know what to watch out for.
I struggle with collars but since then I’ve seen a few hacks on how to get a good clean neck line!
@@SimplyDelilah , you will get it... I like you saved the top and put a bow on it. LOL!
I think you did a great job, and you're helping people by posting. I want to do this pattern, so I'm glad to have the heads up. I thin the bow is a great solution! As for the original collar, I am wondering if maybe the size was too small, which caused fit problems in the upper chest. Regardless, thanks for the review! Keep on keeping on!
Great solution!
Thank you!
You made it perfect! Love the bow & the fabric is sew lovely ☺️☺️
thank you!
Yay! It looks just 👍 great!
Thank you! 😊
Thank you so much for the review. Although it wasn’t so easy on the collar, it turned out beautiful. Love the fabric 😊
You are so welcome! Thank you for watching!
Good to know, as I was planning to sew this pattern soon - I’ll make a muslin/toile to work out the sizing and neckline. So… I learnt from Britney J Jones’s videos that we should be using the measurements on the pattern pieces before cutting - Not the packet and not the instructions. It’s saved my sewing life ever since. And at the end of the day, your tunic looks lovely with your hack - I like it a lot.
DUH! why did I not think of that?? to measure the actually pattern pieces! ugh. Thank You!
@@SimplyDelilah Lol, wait! The measurement table that’s printed on the pattern pieces. Which is weird - why don’t they use this table on the packet - and the instructions - instead of that ridiculous time waster on the packet?!!
It looks really nice on you and you did save it with the ties. I would suggest that you take a look at a fellow UA-camr’s tutorial on this pattern because she really makes that whole neckline construction very clear.
Happy sewing 😊
yes I would love to get some clarification on that neckline. I know Rochelle has a video on it as well. I would like to make it again...I love the raglan sleeves.
Your fabric is gorgeous!! It turned out really beautiful. The ties were the perfect solution. I’m glad you can wear it!
Thank you!
You did a FAB job on it Delilah. It's lovely. 😊
Thank you so much!
It’s Beautiful!
thank you!
I love how you used critical thinking on how to salvage the top/dress and make it wearable! The fabric is beautiful and you look so pretty in it with your nice legs! Don't you hate it when a basically simple dress has such crappy directions? I sometimes want to just throw them out and figure it out myself but then again I'm afraid I'll miss something important so I don't! Great review! I have this pattern and figured I'd just use it for a nightgown but your iteration is so beautiful, I will definitely make it as a dress!
thank you for stopping by! I do love the gathering at the top and Im glad I was able to save it.
Regarding your confusion about not knowing which side of the fabric was supposed to be sewn where, there are different colours on the diagram for each step that refer to the right/wrong side of the fabric. There’ll be a section on the instruction sheet called ‘fabric key’ (on McCalls patterns) which shows you which is which that should really help you 😊
I think you did a great job finishing it regardless and the dress came out lovely, so only you (and we) will ever know!
Thank You so much for that tip! Sometimes the answers are right in front of me 🤷♀️
It is lovely now and beaut fabric.
Thank you!
Love the fabric
Thank you!
You look cute in it! I have had problems with McCall's patterns before also. It has to be something I really want (and on sale for $1.99) for me to buy a McCall's pattern. I stick mostly with Simplicity.
Thank you! i can usually save it with a hack luckily.
You always choose such fun fabrics! I am trying to think if I heard where you purchased this one in the video. I know you do mention in most videos which I love because I love patterned fabric.
Hi. This one is purchased from fabric.com. I did mention it really quick towards the end of the video. 😊
Hey, you really had to persevere!! But you did!! I was just telling my grown son how sewing keeps my mind sharp. Math skills, creativity AND PROBLEM SOLVING!!!!
Good save!! It actually looks really cute on you. That daggume pocket thing tho??? Huh?? That's a doosey.
I have had some neckband issues and to be honest I have found a way that works for me and I kinda just....glaze over those instructions now. You know, if it's not broken, don't fix it, right??
Yeah I try not to look at the patterns instructions if I don't have too! and Yes I agree that sewing does keep your mind sharp. Thank You 😊
It is absolutely wearable now.
Thank you!
It turned out beautifully. I think the bodice portion of the pattern is sized wrong in the description. Because you had to make a tie in order to pull it together. The pattern company should take a look at that pattern and make revisions.
What Nancy says in the above comment makes sense..I should have made a size medium because the neckline width was too small for me…but I still would have had issues with trying to install the neckline.
I have run into this with McCalls so many times.
good thing for the internet or I would be completely lost with there instructions
I love the fabric-can you remove the collar completely and finish the neckline?
well I actually should have made a medium, like another viewer said...I think the collar was too small...It's still a good make though, I wore it to work today.
Your fabric is stunning! The cover of this pattern does it no justice. What were they thinking with the floppy hat and quilting like fabric? I love the other 2 views and bought this pattern. Based on your review, I think even the XS will be baggy on my 34" bust. I may have to narrow the pattern at the bust. Thanks for the neckline warning. Your solution is cute. I might do something similar with a round keyhole opening.
Yes I think you should narrow the pattern for sure! And I also thought the fabric they used was odd!
Nice! Girl, can't nobody see any flaws but you. lol
thank you!
Hi, I'm currently making the size medium, and the front pieces look much larger than yours. I agree the instructions are sparse but I'm figuring it out. But the collar is next😬
yeah I really just had to do the best I could..it was a struggle
As Tim Gunn would say, "make it work", and you did.
Thank you! I didn’t want all that fabric to go to waste!
It looks good now you would not know it was not like that in the pattern 👍🏻
yes I think overall I made it work. Thank you for watching.
You definitely saved it by adding the ties. It looks good on you. But I definitely think you should have used the size medium. This was not designed to be a fitted dress. Notice how (before you added the ties) the neckline does not meet in the front. It is because it is too small. The dress was designed to be VERY loose and oversized. Compare the bust measure for the size versus the finished bust measurement. That will tell how much ease is included in the design. That being said, even though the finished garment is totally different from the original design, it still looks great - just a different dress! And it looks good on you AND most importantly, you didn’t lose that lovely fabric! 👍🏻 Good save!
You are so right! I should have went with the medium…I see exactly what you mean!
But STILL … the dress looks great on you! And you really came through with that neck tie. Good job!
I bet if you made a medium with the short, floppy sleeves (those always look good on you!) in a cute, small floral brushed poly or draped rayon for a summer dress, you would love it! Kinda like the dress you made for you, your teen daughter and her friend. I think the very full long sleeves don’t go well with the original oversized design. But they work with your slimmed-down version! The shorter, ruffly sleeve would look better with the oversized version. Try it! 💕
@@nancyhelpinstill1834 thats not a bad idea...Now i'm so curious to see how a medium will look! thanks for the suggestions 😊
What is the pattern number that you have on in the first part of the video?
