- Episode 239. This is a very light, yet tasty Scotch. Have you had any Glen Grant? I find the honey, and light fruit very nice. Their lighter style is interesting. Let me know what you think. #whiskyfabric#whiskytube#whiskyneighbour
We love his use of the German word, 'Ja'!
Never thought about it, but it could be!
I have had quite a few bottles of Glen Grant, and enjoyed them all... This is one of my favorite lighter whiskies.
I certainly agree. Light, but well put together. Cheers!
I first bought this about 2 years ago, got the last bottle on the shelf and I was really impressed. Haven't found another bottle since but when I do I'm definitely going to get it again.
Glad you have had it, and enjoy it. Hopefully it shows up for you again soon! Cheers!
Glen Grant makes such great whiskey. Fantastic review! Subscribed and looking forward to more videos.
Clearly I agree! Thank you for your thoughts, and welcome to the channel!
Just picked up a bottle and sipping along with you, albeit a year later. I agree with you, as a lighter scotch, absolutely delicious and very drinkable.
Glad you could pick one up, and we could share a dram! Cheers!
I enjoyed the GG12 along with you. A house favorite.
Awesome, glad to share a dram!
Never even considered the Glen Grant before, so added to the list! Enjoyed the review Jon, thanks 🥃🥃
It is very light and may not meet what you are looking for. However, a quality pour IMO. Cheers!
I picked up a bottle of this at Portugal duty free and it was 48% and said non-chill filtered on it. An enjoyable dram indeed.
Wow! that would be even better!
Due to health issues I've had to cut back on whisky. The meds I take make many brands taste strange now. I prefer a softer dram now also. That Glen Grant sounds delightful. Thank God Laphroaig 10 still tastes the same to me.
Sorry to hear you have some challenges. I hope you can find support and healing this year. Glen Grant is certainly a softer dram I hope you enjoy!
Thank you WN another for my collection. Great review cheers
This is a good single malt IMO. Cheers!
Hey Jon! I picked up a bottle of this in the fall and quite enjoy it. It’s a nice smooth whisky, easy to drink. Thank you sir, cheers!
Awesome! Cheers
Just picked up a bottle of the 12 today and it’s awesome! About a year ago I got the 15 in Connecticut for almost $30 cheaper here in SC. Even though the 15 is 50% abv, I think the 12 is where it’s at!
Sweet. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I continue to enjoy this 12, a really great Scotch IMO. Cheers!
Thanks for the review Jon. I’ve been eyeing this one up for a wile at my local liquor store. Noticed a notification showing you just did a review so today I decided to pick it up and have a taste along with you. Not bad at all. Thought I was getting lots of apple at first on the nose with the honey. Overall lovely light dram, great value happy with my purchase.
I did get some apple too. Not sure that would be my first note, but definitely a dried apple for me. Glad you enjoyed it and I agree, a great value.
Weekend greetings!
I've had this one on my list for a while, but it has been out of stock here since the spring. I keep hoping it'll turn up. Price isn't too bad in Ontario either, just under $70. It sounds like one I'd enjoy, you and I seem to have similar palates. I like a lighter whisky now and then, not everything has to smack you upside the head to get your attention! Currently laid up with a broken ankle. Did some fancy dancin' on sidewalk ice on Tuesday and snip-snap, there was a crack! Has kind of put a crimp in my lifestyle for the next couple months, but everything's locked down here anyhow, so what can you do! 😒
Hanging out with my WhiskyTubers is helping, even though I'm off whisky until I'm off the painkillers.
Doesn't hurt to give the palate a break every now and then though, does it?
Keep rocking the reviews Jon, and thanks (as always) for sharing!

So sorry to hear of your accident. I am very worried about that dance too, but so far, I have been spared. I hope you heal quickly and the pain settles down. Yes, it probably is good to rest the palate now and again. Many people do dry January, something I have not done, but certainly considered. I have no regrets picking up this bottle, and I think when everything opens up, I will likely bring it back from time to time for sharing. It is light, but well done. Thanks for dropping in!
Got one of these two years ago. It's a good one to pour for people trying to get a foot in the door of malt whisky. Glen Grant has a 15 that it 50% NCF. See it at Costco for a good price now and again. For now we get 43% AnCnoc 12 in the US. Cheers
I would love to try AnCnoc at 43. Have you had the GG 15 at 50% abv?
@@WhiskyNeighbour Yes got the 15 a while back too. Remember it being good but I got it for a very good price. Don't think I would pay a lot for it. Also had a Alexander Murray Glen Grant 22yr single 2nd fill bourbon cask that was outstanding. Was able to do a side by side with the 12 and that Glen Grant spirit character was obvious in both.
@@DonnerPassWhisky Beautiful!
Thanks for the review, you know what, some of my favorites are chill filtered and coloured.🤭
I try to keep an open mind. This is good stuff IMO, I hope you can try it one day.
I have both of these bottles and I find them very competitive. I did a blind tasting between the two a few months back. I was certain I liked the GG better, but anCnoc won! For me, the viscosity/mouth feel was what made the anCnoc just a tad better. Can't go wrong with either though!
I think that is very similar to what I am tasting here too. I should have kept the anCnoc around for a blind, but that bottle did not last the Saturday! Thanks for sharing!
Great review, Jon🙂 We have very similar takes on the Glen Grant. It must be the lightest single malt I have ever tried. The idea of learning stuff through actually experimenting with distilling could be so much fun. Unfortunately it is illegal in Denmark unless you obtain a limited and expensive license to produce it.
Thank you for the very kind words - though I feel more like an amateur starting out - there is just so much to explore 🙂
I appreciate your insight and benefit from your research each time I drop in to your channel. We require licenses here too, but they recently have become greatly reduced in price. Perhaps one day!
@@WhiskyNeighbour One of the guys in our whisky group makes beer and has a pretty big farmhouse like house with lots of barns and stuff. It is very tempting - (un)luckily we are all too stand up citizens to do anything about it ;)
Hi! Nice review. Glen Grant 12 is sold "mit Farbstoff" in Germany. So it is with added colouring..
No bad, but I do enjoy this one.
@@WhiskyNeighbour o yes, a little bit added colour doesnt necessarily mean the whisky cannot be enjoyable...
@@Andre-nt4dn I wast typing quickly. I had intended to say "too bad". I believe it is unfortunate they decided to add colour, however as you say, it can still be good whisky. Thank you for sharing.
I’ll take the Ancnoc 12 too. The casks make the difference with Ancnoc.
I was surprised by the AnCnoc here . Good flavours despite 40%.
I think you were spot on with "a little bit maltier Glenfiddich." I recently grabbed a couple bottles of this on clearance as it's often cheaper than Glenfiddich 12 and I actually prefer it to the GG15.
Thanks. Better than GG 15. Interesting. I have not brought that home, but I have heard good things. Cheers!
I've seen a couple of Glen Grant 12 still available at my local store. They've been there for well over a year now. Nobody goes for them since no one knows them. So very light and fruity... but still more "oomph" than Glenfiddich 12 ? I may have to try this if still available. For the time being, I'm going through a "Dry January". So I was sipping decaf coffee with a spoonful of maple syrup and milk while watching this. Stay safe and thanks for sharing :)
Dry January is a great idea. I do find this a little more interesting then GF 12. If you pick it up, I hope you enjoy it too.
I bought a glen grant 12 non-chill filtered and drank it. The alcohol was 48%, so I bought it and drank it right away. Do you know this one? Regular 12 years is 43%. No matter how hard I looked, there was no information about Glangrant 12 years and 48 %. I think it's only for duty-free, anyway for me, taste was very good.
please share some info.
Sadly I do not know anything more about it. I would like to try though. Cheers!
I got a lot of coffee notes...but I'm drinking coffee right now.🤣
Lol!
Definitely chill filtered.
Thanks
Hey John. I´m pretty sure Glen Grant 12 is coloured. Cheers Neighbour :)
Thanks!
Hey Jon, I'm mostly a Bourbon drinker but would like to try to get i to scotches. What do ya think about that Glen Grant 12 as a first Bottle?
I think it would be a good choice. I really enjoy this softer, light fruit profile. Another great transition bottle from Bourbon is the Glenfiddich 14. A great, affordable bottle with a fair amount of oak for Bourbon enthusiasts. Let me know if you try this what you think. Cheers!
@@WhiskyNeighbour Definitely will give the Glenfiddich 14 a try. Been wanting to try Monkey Shoulder but the price around here is hard to put up on a unknown.
@@nathanwelton1385 Many enjoy Monkey Shoulder. It is good, smooth and sweet, but I feel it lacks a bit of character.
@@WhiskyNeighbour I watched your review there a month or so ago. I've seen it on a few starter scotch list. But at less then half in the states compared to what we pay , prob makes more sense.
안녕! 난 대한민국에서 너의 영상을 시청하고 있어. 방금 glen grant12를 마시면서 너의 영상을 보고 있다
Very cool! Sadly I do not speak Korean, but my wife is trying to learn! Did you enjoy it?
2 more for the list...lol
Lol! My list is never ending too!
ever try the glen grant 18?
I have not had that chance. Good?
@@WhiskyNeighbour I was hoping you'd tell me! hehe
@@leofrog9433 well not yet. One day for sure!
