That would be pretty hard. We already have the 3rd highest military budget in the world. It would take some time to increase the budget by such a huge amount.

@@vin-bharatmahaan6569 First clear your misconception, navy's capital budget is around 3 billion dollar (and not 5 bn$) and as for ssbns and ssn, this are multi year project, for example take Arihant class that will be spanning nearly 20 years (from designing to roll out of last submarine) and now split that amount over this many years.

@@AlphaDefenseHindi Don't you think,as these 4 LHD if finalized,will take a decade or more,along with huge expenditure.
For current needs,we buy 2 Decommissioned Tarawa Class ships which are currently placed under storage,overhaul them & use them for next 10-12 years,till these 4 new ships get ready.
Both of these ships wouldn't cost us more than 350-400 million dollars with overhaul & upgrades.
They may be 30+ years old,but with overhauling then can be used for a decade,as INS Jalashwa which we are using was built in 1971,more than 10+ years older than these ships.
Helicopter destroyers! With 16 SSM and 32 SAM it's like a destroyer + Helicopter carrier!

Sounds very nice on paper. Unlike ALL previous projects I hope this time they atleast come close to the scheduled time lines...just a hope. Otherwise I won't be disappointed!

Its the right decision. Hope they finish the process in time.
Considering the past, I m not taking this seriously. It will take 5 years just to place contract and may be by that time, IN's requirement change. Even if they manage to place order in 2021, by standard of Indian work ethics, it will 20 yrs for the 4th LHD to enter service with 100% cost-overrun.
Things are changing and changing for the good Navy especially is doing great with its procurement process and future so we just might get these 4 ships in time especially considering private companies will be involved

This is umpteenth attempt to gain amphibious / high seas rotary capabilities. Hope It fructifies this time. After going through the RFI, it looks like we're drawing heavily from the IZUMO class of Japan (which is a good thing as it will give us fighting chance to stop chinese ventures in IOR).
i also like IZUMO but it's a bit big more like an aircraft carrier .

Our Indian Navy is Very Smart and Having a Long Vision View, In simple language, it's a small size aircraft carrier, during its manufacturing, it's design will change from being only helicopter carrier to Small Aircraft carrier, and due to its small size we will get This small size aircraft carrier per year after completing 5 yrs of contract, 🇮🇳🇮🇳👍👍😇😇

Indian Navy should seriously work to acquire Amphibious Assault Carriers and Mine Counter Measure Vessels.
Good decision by Navy. With 2 ACs and 4 LHDs, IN can virtually control the IO. Additionally, P8Is, destroyers, subs, will ensure total control of the IO. Pak navy will not show up in the Arabian sea. PLAAN will not even think of entering IO. Militarisation of Andamans and Lakshadweep islands should also continue full speed.

@@therealgentelman643 bro they are making it already. Plus last time for multi vessel platform (i mean the last rfp which was scrapped later ) they were one of the two contenders. There is even mazadong shipyard limited and even grse(garden reach shipyard limited).so there is a good number.

I think mistral class by naval group can be a good option.
Now India needs to focus on vertical take off and landing aircraft.If it develops and builds these aircraft, they can be stationed on LPDs / LHDs along with Helicopters, tanks, armed troop carriers etc. Even USA is using Harriers and F-35 Lightening a on it's ships.
Will those Landing platforms be able to operate Vertical lauch fighter jet from them ?

Good lord it has beeen ten years since the 1st tender i was a teen back then. I always hoped juan carlos to be selected so that it could act as a make shift aircraft carrier with the harriers after viraat's retirement. We can always design an LPD like jalashwa based on the LHD. Imaging the power projection capability with 2 aircraft carriers, 4 lhds. Altough the navy will need more frigates/destroyers for them. But then again we live in india and these things hardly fructify.

to me this is very good investment and the number 4 is good in the event we need to open second front against enemy this will provide 'beach head' but must be backed by troop carrier ship of 1600 person capacity that can ferry more troops, supplies equipment and be able to secure landing strip or field for paratroopers/ or tramsport helicopter or transport airplanes

My personal suggestion would be that India should consider Nuclear propulsion LHD bcoz it can be used as Aircraft carrier other than amphibious ship.
May be there will be requirement of large infrastructure changes in the ship design internally.
But I think India should use this LHD as Aircraft carrier for power dominance in Indian Ocean region
Price may get higher for these projects.

Instead of 4 LHD we can make a aircraft carrier like French it will be perfect if we need LHD we can make them 2 and after receiving the Aircraft career we can order 2 more LHD it will be perfect
They should build some thing like Juan Carlos Class. It can function as helicopter carrier and aircraft carrier both.
can u explain in more detail where Indian navy uses these; for south china sea artificial islands or for pakistan or for coco islands it is hard for picturing Indian navy using these
