  • Replacement of a damaged digitizer on an Asus Q551L laptop. The glass has cracked an the touchscreen has stopped working. The digitizer is mounted on a plastic bezel (frame). Here the digitizer and the frame it is glued onto is replaced, however, the digitzer can be removed from the frame for a cheaper fix.

Word of warning: Mine did not come with the bezel so I had to remove the bezel from the old digitizer. It is held in place with a very strong double-sided tape. I used my heat gun to soften the adhesive but this also softened the plastic of the bezel which then warped out of shape as I gently pulled the digitizer away. Now I've got to buy a new bezel too and I can't find it by itself - only with another digitizer. Guess I'm buying another one! Be careful with the heat, people!

I just bought a used Q551LN and found two issues:
    1) The screen brightness wasn't quite as bright as I had hoped (I have a Q550LF which I think has the same screen), it also seemed to be change a bit over time and at different viewing angles (I saw this in comparison to my Q550LF).
    2) The touch screen "works" in that it detects touches but the location on the screen is wrong. (Typically the lower you are on the screen the further off it is). I did try recalibrating the screen in Windows and it didn't fix it.
The previous owner told me the LCD had just been replaced prior to selling it. I opened up the back shell and found that the display was not actually attached to the digitizer, it was just kind of flopping around and it didn't appear particularly flush. I'm thinking this inconsistent gap could be responsible for issue #1. But is it the cause of #2? Do I need to buy a new digitizer? Where do I get tape/glue to attach the LCD to the digitizer?

Does the digitizer connect to the screen? Or is it routed to the motherboard separately? I'm trying to figure out if I can take the touchscreen from a G751JL and install it to my G751JT. I'm just not sure if I need an extra connection on my motherboard to hook in the digitizer or is it all fed via the screen's 40 pin connector

Your video helped a lot! Thanks! I have one question tho.. I've been trying to find it but never could, do you know where I might find the metal backplate for the screen? The part that connects to the hinge is broken and is what caused the screen to crack (thus the replacement)

Hi buddy. I got one Asus Q551Ln 2in1. I would like to Diconnect the digitizer cables. Please, in which minutes from the video is demonstred the disassembly ment cables of the digitizer? I wanna make this 2in1 model to be only a laptop (more power battery, etc).
Sorry for my bad english, still learning.

Danyyel David Lucas there is a display setting that allows you to disable to touch screen capabilities so it works just like a regular laptop

I was wondering, what was the model for the touchscreen. While watching the video I checked my top corner where the chip is name "top". So I am assuming you have the TOP15197 model?

I believe there are two different models of digitizer, make sure you check your model to ensure you order the correct model.

What glue did you use and where exactly did you apply it? I've never replaced anything on a laptop and I'm typing this with a cracked screen.

I did not need to use glue because I replaced the glass and the plastic frame too which it is glued. I would recommend using strong double-sided tape glue if you are replacing just the glass.

ebay. you can find digitizers that are with or without the plastic bezel. It should not be that hard to unglue the old digitizer from the bezel. i will do another video where i do that. Make sure you read the model number off the old digitizer first, because there are slightly different digitzers, and apparently knowing the model number f the computer is not enough.
