Give credit to the 3rd string Qb for Pitt he might have a starting job in the future I can't understand what he went through. He made great throws and kept them alive, Of course the rookie mistakes cost them but he still did a heck of a job.

Amazing comeback! What a way to cap off an incredible season. Glad to see my Spartans back in the national spotlight. Also glad to see our old defensive coordinator, Pat Narduzi, is having success in his job at Pitt. It was a privilege to play against him and I wish him the best of luck with the Panthers in future seasons.

@@revmo37 i understand both sides of it but at the end of the day they dont owe us anything and its their decision to play or not. Several players that havent opted out ended up hurt in their bowl game. And in walkers defense, he was already playing through an injury all season
@@devin6835 I can't say you're wrong either Devin. I can see both sides as well. I just kinda believe that a bowl game should be part of their commitment to the university and fans. Being only one more game, could help with recruitment, as well as financial benefit to the school for the bowl appearance. also, would have been a much more exiting game for fans with Pickett and Walker playing. But as you said, I guess both viewpoints have some validity. Happy New Year !

im really shocked it was this competitive, I mean Pitt is not the program Michigan state is, they just had a great QB. That QB didn't play and his backup got hurt early. If they pulled this out with a 3rd stringer it would have been a huge upset.
@@nospam3327 Pitt. offense scored 14 pts. (7 pts. scored w/ fumble recovery), and the 3rd. stringer threw a pick 6 with the game on the line (that's why he's 3rd string). The team scored 50 points most nights with Pickett. I wouldn't give Michigan State that much credit. If it was played during the season, Pitt would of won 51-24, at least.

Unfortunately, Brave Freedom, the Big Ten finished the bowl season 6-4, thanks to the (gulp!) Buckeyes rally to beat Utah(who by the way represented the PAC-12,and LOST every game they played, going 0-5!

Thanks for being there. I could not, but would have loved it. And if you saw Thorne's post game interview, you would know how important you guys were. He described how his footwork was bad in the 2nd and 3rd quarters and he was missing open receivers and he could hear fans in the stands telling him to "keep chopping", and that they believed in him. Thorne talked about how often, he would expect to get booed (rightfully in his opinion) but he did not.
You and the other members of Spartan Nation helped keep this team going.

@@bert1450 It wouldn't hurt if Pitt. was playing their starting QB either. Pickett at QB would of made a big difference. Going from a Heisman finalist in Pickett to a 3rd string QB makes a bug difference.
A classic game to be remembered along the likes of 2014 Rose Bowl and the 2015 Cotton bowl. MSU football is back baby!

@@thebroham5239 It's all about being healthy for the draft. The game is meanigless to those guys. An injury would drop them in the draft. Don't worry Georgia and Alabama will not rest anyone b/c this game means something. The MSU game meant something to bettors, T.V. ads, and pleasing their girlfriend in the stands.

Anyway, while the game looked ugly at times, I can't complain; a win's a win, and it was tough-fought, all around.

I was at this game with my dad and the stadium went bananas after State got the interception at the end!! 🏈 Truly my come back team! They leave it all on the floor and play with everything in them. They have heart 💚 🤍 Defense is what wins games!

Funny, Narduzzi's last defensive play as defense coordinator at MSU was a linebacker interception to win the Cotton Bowl (NY6) in 2014. Then his team throws an interception to a linebacker against his former team to lose the Peach Bowl (NY6)
The almighty SEC is 1-5 and the "Big Ten is overrated (Charles Barkley, 2013)" Big Ten is 4-0.

If MSU didn’t still didn’t have Walker, probably because the defense is garbage. But if MSU had Walker, it’d still be close. Two of the top players in the nation? Would have been a show to watch. Also, Walker was the best player in the nation, so it would be close

It sucks that all the best players in the country suddenly "get hurt" or sit out the Bowl games. Understandable for financial reasons but it sucks.
Besides bowl season, I don't really watch CFB anymore outside of the Longhorns and Houston Cougars. The past 5 years it seems like all these games are full of back ups because nobody wants to get hurt.

Yeah it happens every year though. Correll played for Ole' Miss and ended up being carted off .. he dodged a bullet with 3rd round pick but wouldn't have blamed him for sitting it out.

Can we pump the breaks on the MSU hype train for a minute. Pitt was winning for the majority of the game with a terrible third string QB that looked incompetent leading them for most of the game. No Walker hurts, but a running back is significantly easier to replace than a QB and Pitt looked good when they did replace their Hiesman finalist QB, until he got hurt and had to go to the third string. Pitt had 1 first down in the second half until their final drive. This wasn't a comeback underdog story. It should never have been as close as it was with Beville at QB. MSU looked pretty bad most of the game, it's just that Pitts offense without Pickett or Patti was anemic. MSU didn't win the game, Pitt lost it after they lost their QBs. With Patti or Pickett, the game wouldn't even have been competitive
This win has an asterisk because one of the best qb players in the country was out. If Kenny “Fake Slide” Pickett plays, Pitt wins by 17

@@averagejonathansmithenjoyer The game happened the result is what it is, but if the teams are at full strength judging by how both teams played (Purdue fan no bias) Pitt easily wins. Running back is the most replaceable position in football. Not taking anything away from Walker but the offensive line is just as important if not more important to the running game as the running back. On the other hand QB is the most important position, hardest to replace, and Pitt had to go to a guy that was obviously not ready to play, and still nearly won. Pickett was fantastic all year and against the worst passing defense in college football would've ate MSU's lunch worse than walk-on Aidan O'Connell. Not to mention they have a David Bell clone in Jordan Adision which with a competent QB to give him the ball would've at least done more than he did with Beville. I dont think Pitt's defense is as good as OSU, but the offense is pretty comparably so I think it wouldn't be a stretch to say with Pickett Pitt could score 56 points That game was way closer than it ever should've been with Beville at QB. Patti looked pretty good and probably would've won the game for Pitt if we are being honest, maybe not if Walker played, but if he didn't get hurt and actually was able to sustain some drives to get the defense some rest, that defense was suffocating MSU, until the defense was so gased for being on the field too long that they broke.

Not really. Pitt might have won, if QB Patti could have played the entire game and not become injured. QB3 Belville, he was AWFUL and throwing that pick 6 with the game on the line, didn't help the Panthers one bit. I don't know why, Belville is the QB3??? He should be a TE or a HB.

Let’s put it this way. Watching this as a neutral watcher. And I love Kenneth Walker but if Pickett is there this is a win by Pittsburgh especially what I seen from Michigan St. Secondary.
It really sucks that these players are now not playing in the top 6 games. For me it is a let down for not only the viewers but for their college, coaches and teammates.
You play the game with the players you have. No sense in arguing hypotheticals. If MSU has Walker, their ground game is much more effective than what we saw.
You forget Mich State was missing one of the best backs in the country. You can do what ifs all day long. We won the game, with players who wanted to play bowl game.
