For a challenge, NO rods. You can use a stick or just your hands and toss out a lure or whatever. Good luck.

apbassing, just started getting into bass fishing and feel like I am doing something terribly wrong. I've only landed one fish in the past two months. I primarily use a lipless crank and a roostertail. I've gone to a reservoir and an overfished pond with mostly muddy water. Vegetation is always submerged and there are occasionally some logs for shelter. Any advice and pointers are welcome.

I can name lake's within a 20 mile radius from my house that have Bass 10x better than minnetonka lol. Have caught 3lb and 4lbers on just nightcrawlers alone at this one lake.
Mississippi actually has pretty good smallies, just caught a 3lber a week ago(don't know actual weight I have a video+picture on channel to prove it.) and before that a week earlier that day I caught a nice 1lber and a few smaller ones with a W-rigged senko.
I'm not sure about smallie fishing or any other fishing areas though. I do know a lake in a town just down the road 10-15 miles that is just filled with Pike of all sizes. They're either small pike, or 30-40 inch mamas. Last year(havent returned since) I was stupid fishing iwth 6lb mono but had a steel leader+a red/white spoon on and got 2 pike up to the dock within two consecutive casts before they broke my line off twice. No exact measurements but they made quite the splash and dash, looked pretty big too.
Muskie, smallie, and pike fishing are new territory for me so that's all I have to offer. In my personal experience all I've ever caught on moving lures are Pike, bass seem to be uninterested in Red Eye Shads or Flukes and Jerkbaits with me. Also look into cat fishing or Bowfin fishing, have caught a few bowfin too with moving baits.
Fishing here in MN is sweet though, would definitely come and fish here 10/10 fishing here is underrated behind the "Northern MN" line. Bass will bite since the main attraction is Walleye/Pike/Musky fishing

Ok so you pick your rod and reel your going to use. You only get one of each. Then you are not allowed to use any of your own lures. You have to beg borrow or steal to get some lures. Not allowed to buy them. Say 1 hr in town before you go fishing to ask people and see what you can get, then you can ask other boats in the water or at the boat ramp all day. Longest total length win all species allowed.

Try Steiger lake in Victoria Minnesota. It is pretty close to Minnetonka and it holds some real brutes because legally you aren't allowed to keep fish from that lake. However it is heavily pressured and the fish are usually hard to find.

  • @KFieLdGaming

Challenge: Biggest Pike on a fly rod. I'm guessing both Jon and yourself are relative newbies when it comes to fly fishing, so it should be fun. Grab a combo, some pre-tied flies/pike streamers, and get 'er done. You'll probably want a 9 weight rod, 8 at a minimum. Where you're going, there's plenty of monster Pike. And trust me, you'll have a blast if you manage to hook into a 40 inch class fish on a fly fishing setup.
Challenge 2: You're only allowed one rod. It has to be an ultralight, and 6 foot or less. Line weight has to be 6lbs or less. The biggest fish successfully landed, wins.

As a challenge you could do a varying species thing... Like have five different species of fish you have to catch and whoever catches them first wins. For example, let's say the first fish you need to catch is a bass. Once you catch a bass you move on to the second fish, which could be a pike or something, and so on. Just a suggestion. Excited about the upcoming videos man!
