I love this! She is my 33rd Great Grandmother. She is also Diana's. We got it all in the family. LOL Thank you for straightening out the Story I was wondering how OLAF was the one who slapped her another husband which is strangely her Son's name, as I would think it was ERIK in the pictures. I will now include her in our Ancestry as Sigrid Swietoslava. Beautiful.
Well done Karen. This is such a complex subject to explain (early Danish Queens), with confusing and incomplete sources, however you have done a great job of of working through and presenting the evidence. I think I'm descended from her daughter Thyra who married Earl Godwin but as you've shown the names and dates are easily confused so who knows. Thank you for your hard work!
I have been reading her story in polish now, she is believed to be Mieszko's daughter, she was married to Eric, it is said that she loved Olaf Trygfason but couldn't marry him and had to marry Sven to avoid the war after Eric's death. And at that time the husband could rename the wife after the wedding, so her name was Swietoslawa, Eric named her Sigrid and Sven tried to rename her Gunhild but his people insisted on calling her, Sigrid :) But I guess we will never know the truth :) And polish historians claim that Mieszko took the name Dago while taking Christianity :)
She's my 32nd great grandmother. I was working on Forkbeard in my tree and have both Swietoslava and Sigrid as his wives. Now I'm wondering which one is true. I already had Estrid as Forkbeards daughter in before. I'm just excited she's a badass pagan though 🤣
Thank you for honoring my 31st great grandmother.
