- I didn't really expect much from a Lorde project, but Melodrama, with it's strong songwriting and top notch production, definitely exceeded my expectations.
best tracks: Sober, Liability, Hard Feelings/Loveless, Supercut, Liability (Reprise)
worst tracks: Homemade Dynamite

Not me trying to rewatch AJayll's reaction to Melodrama but found your handsome face instead.
Actually melodrama is an alternative-pop record. Lorde has been known as a little aggresive songwriter. Her audience usually people that pay attention to the lyrics. This album received a 9.1 rating from critics and it's her sophemore album. You can't compare this one to olivia's debut album. Yeah she also that kinda singer. She's like an indie singer that happened to be a big one out there. Anyway maybe you could taste her debut album "pure heroine"since it discussed a lot of things. I described pure heroine is an alternative world that lorde showcased how her and people live in it. Melodrama is like a girl from that world is now move in a big city and this is how her romance goes.
i think the “singing in cursive” might be because she’s from New Zealand haha
she doesn't sing in cursive she has a New Zealand accent and people started trying to replicate it after she blew up with royals lol

i feel like a lot of ur takes r super interesting bc they sort of indirectly parallel some interesting details surrounding this album and lorde’s career/impact. olivia rodrigo has actually mentioned that she is heavily inspired by lorde. many people see ties between the song structure (specifically the bridges) of green light and drivers license. melodrama is definitely more of a lyrical album, lorde’s writing style is very much poetic and almost “english-class-y”. there are sooo many fun easter eggs in this album too, the story of it is quite beautiful. i would definitely recommend perhaps giving lorde another chance w not only this album, but also her freshman album pure heroine. her sound at first is sort of jarring, i’ll admit, but her storytelling is impeccable.

Melodrama dropped in 2017, it’s ageing well which means it was ahead of its time
Interesting pick up on Kanye, when I was listening to Donda some productions elements keeps taking me back to this album and I’m glad someone else picked it up ☺️

Melodrama is Lorde’s 2nd album which is insane because her first was incredibly successful and she managed to make a follow up that’s much more sonically and lyrically developed (althought i love Pure Heroine)
Okay but who writes about car crashes with the phrasing “well end up painted on the road red and chrome all the broken glass sparkling” im gonna drive my car off a cliff now to imitate the vibe
you should check out pure heroine too to see what the classic lorde was.. i think you’ll like that album more and btw she was 15 yearsold and the songwriting on that was impressive nd unlike anything

Olivia is a fan of lorde and she was influenced by lorde. And Lorde is more of a good writer than a vocalist. She’s got better vocals on solar power.

Oh lorde was a inspired by Kanye a lot as a kid . Kanye and lorde have done a songs together btw on huger games soundtrack she curated
Its hard to pick up on lyrics fully but they definitely inform the production choices
