Would , after cutting a dowel to length, sawing the dowel at mid point into two pieces at a ~30 degree angle and then come in from both sides where the dowel halves would wedge the center hole into the desired tight fit , make an easier lower risk option ? (where the two halves come together the over lap, of the halves, could exceed the exact match point and go even further actually increasing the diameter of the dowel and the pressure on the fit .) ( enjoyed the video and I think you are right about not needing glue . you have done such a good job the glue would likely turn to dust before the joint ever might come apart )
Nicely done but leaves me with one question. Once the peg has cleared the backside enough to expose cutoff length is anything gained by driving the peg the extra few inches? If the peg size is same behind your added front end taper is it some way continuing tighten with more length pushing through?
Not really! As long as the full diameter peg is through each joint you are good. It is important to use straight grain pegs to avoid the peg breaking! Dowels aren’t optimal for that reason.
Nicely done video pair. Good presentation and good thorough explanation of the process and passing on of how to avoid mistakes.
Glad you liked it!
Never would have thought of doing it that way. Great lesson. Thank you
Glad you learned something new !

I’ve never heard of that method before using pegs but I believe there is some similar using wedges. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@lastingbuild1373 These are very much the same . The 30 degree cut is on the horizontal so the two halves become round ' pegs ' with wedge tips .
Nice job Jim! Very good.
Thanks Tim!
