    Hi, I bought one of these in January. It is an exceptional Scope for the money. As you mentioned, it won't compete with a £2k Swarovski but the build and lens quality is fantastic for the £175 I paid. I've been birding for about 5 years and wouldn't be without this. Other more experienced birders were impressed with it too (just like your mate).

      Thanks, yeah, at the end of the day, you'll see what you need with it. It's a great starting point and I have mine in the car all the time without worrying about losing it as it's not that costly whereas with a Swarovski, I'd be worried about it.

    Hello - I have the SV17 25x-75x 70mm scope. What is the advantage of the SV46 over the SV17? I hope to receive and answer. Thanks

    Hi Hugh. Should I go for this one or the Acuter Spotting Scope ST 20-60x80A?

    • @HuFilms
      @HuFilms  4 роки тому

      If it's a newer design then possibly. But until I see both side by side, I can't honestly advise. It does like like a decent scope for the money.

    Hugh, what tripod are you using with the SV46?

    • @HuFilms
      @HuFilms  4 роки тому

      Hey, it's a carbon Manfrotto. Not sure which one. The head is the basic model Manfrotto, very popular affordable head.

    • @stewarthunter8470
      @stewarthunter8470 4 роки тому

      Hi, I use a Manfrotto too and the head is a Kingjoy KH-6750 purchased from Ebay for £23. My mate has a swarovski scope and has just purchased the same head for his tripod after using mine. You don't have to pay top prices for all your stuff

    Incredible cromatic aberration¡¡¡¡¡, very bad telescope

      It looks bad here but as a spotting scope here it's pretty decent.

    Yes, it is a beginner's spotter. With aging comes seeing less, so save the money and buy better optics because you might have to sell what you have. Tract Optics with Schott HT/UHD glass @ $1394.00 US cost.

      @TexasTrained 3 роки тому

      I agree..Ive got the Tract Toric Scope 4.5-30x56 and the Tract spotting Scope with MRAD reticle to call shots..They are my favorite optics. Buy once Cry once.

      Honestly, I can't answer that as I haven't tried but I would say it would. Best bet would be to read up on it.

    Most places offer two tripod options: this is the SV101 (40-138cm) - plastic triangle.
    Definitely spend the extra £10 for the SV107 (45-145cm) - metal triangle,
    or buy scope and tripod separately!
    The eyepiece mount looks like the one on the SvBony SV406P (ED), which takes standard 1.25" astronomy eyepieces.
    These have wider field and higher quality, if you're prepared to swap fixed magnifications, instead of zooming.
    Does anyone know if this is the same?
    Loosen the bottom milled ring.
    Hint: don't unscrew the eyepiece: it fits through a rubber o-ring, so if you have to turn it, do so **clockwise**, so bits of the eyepiece don't unscrew.

    • @ericd7709
      @ericd7709 3 роки тому

      To clarify: I expect the milled ring unscrews anti-clockwise, as you would expect, to un-compress the o-ring.
      You might be able to pull the eyepiece straight out, but turning it clockwise will help.

      I've asked Svbony on Amazon - product 'B07V3KXT6V'.
      The other approach for digiscoping is the male 42x0.75mm (T-mount threads not camera M42) - SV14.
      SV13 also has 42x0.75mm but female, inside a ring with 48x0.75mm externally - the 2" astro scope eyepiece filter thread. That could get interesting - I'll report back if it works

      SvBony say "SV46 no accept standard 1.25″ astronomy eyepieces, but SV406P is possible. We recommend using UF18MM eyepieces."

    They claim it to be ED glass on Amazon, but that is a lot of purple fringing... is it really ED?

  • @bodstrup

    How did the camera jump across the wall before you ? 🤣 Just bought one - branded Focus by a Swedish distributor - Love it compared to the cheaper x60 scopes without ED glass. Was much brighter than a cheaper 25-75x100 scope despite the smaller diameter front lens.

    • @HuFilms
      @HuFilms  3 роки тому

      Ha ha, what clip is that? Yeah, its bright enough up to 40.

      @@HuFilms At 9 seconds the camera filming you climbing the gate jumps to the far side of the gate. And it appears that there are no wires at the end of the wooden fence piece right of the gate - allowing you to walk around the gate/short fence - not having to climb it :-) - but that last part could be the lack of resolution of the video.

    Thanks for the review. I've recently gotten more into shorebird watching and find that my binoculars and olympus kit just aren't good enough to spot the far away birds. Am considering this exact model just for that purpose. Would it be able to spot birds that are about 200m away clearly? My Olympus 300mm Pro (600mm equivalent) with digital maginifcation is pretty good for up to around 80 - 100m, but any further and it isn't easy to the ID the birds anymore.

    • @HuFilms
      @HuFilms  4 роки тому +1

      Yeah, it's perfect for that. It's best around the 30-40 x range. Bins are fine for when you're on the move and want a glance but when you're facing a wide open stretch of estuary or marsh, then a scope like this is ideal. I've spotted all sorts of stuff since getting this.

      I went ahead and bought the sv406p. Pretty good for the price. The big difference between the sv406p and rhe sv46 is that the former uses extra low dispersion glass for the objective lens and chromatic aberration is minimal.

    • @HuFilms

      Thanks for the comment. It's definitely not but as a scope it's great. You won't spot a fraction through the camera what you will with this scope.
