Aprilia ...we know its a Italian brand right??? Let's see how the Italian brand performs in Indian roads.
Design & Looks:-
The Italian brand has its own way of design language which is perfectly done to grab the Indian customers. The Wide and large headlamps is inspired from the brand's iconic machine RS660.The L-Shapedtaillamp, indicators are full led which makes this maxi-scooty a full led setup machine. The indicators upfront are stripe LEDs which is very premium. The mirrors are designed to be sleek which is eye catchy when compared to other scooties. The mirrors gives good view of what's behind us. The body of the snooty is very well designed and the tricolour on the both sides shows the Italian brand.The only one which I am ok with it is the exhaust which is huge for my liking.
Engine & performance:-
This maxi-scooty is powered by 160cc single cylinder 3valve engine which produces power of 10.9PS@7600rpm and 11.6Nm of torque at 6000rpm. The Torque present in this engine helps to reach 60kmph around 8seconds which is pretty impressive but I have expected the top-speed will be around 110kmph but it doesn't go above 99kmph . The BS6 engine feels refined and smooth. we can do 80kmph easily without any vibrations kicking-in. The fuel-tank capacity is 7litres, gives mileage around 40kmpl and range around 280kms.
Suspension:-
The SR150's biggest downside is its firm suspension set-up. Here with SXR 160, Aprilia has managed to adjust the suspension setup at front. They have given 30mm Telsecopic forks upfront. Eventhough it has softer set-up than SR150 it is still firm which makes the ride quality bitter on bumpy roads . It has good ride quality in good roads. On rear once again they have given adjustable single side shock absorbers.
Seating & Comfort:-
The seat height is 770mm which is on lower side . Both short and tall riders can drive easily with ample space on offer.The seats provided are ultra smooth but it lacks the cushioning which is essential for the riders to enjoy the ride. A part of the seat is Double stitched in grey and red colour which is premium. The Seating comfort for the rider as well as the pillion is decent but it could have been better for my liking. The grab rails for the pillion is very good is design and quality and its handed to grab it.
Tyres & Brakes:-
The tyres are 120/70-12-inch at the front as well as the rear which offers the confidence at high speeds and corners. They provided 220mm disc upfront with ABS and drum brakes at rear. ABS??? yes it comes with Single channels ABS which is good and does the job very well.
Features:-
This maxi-maxi-scooty has whole lot of informations on offer in its instrument cluster. Speedo-meter , Tachometer, 2 tripmeters, Time, Ambient temperature, Engine temperature, Fuel-gauge, Average speed, Maximum speed, Instant mileage, average mileage, Engine mal-function indicator, ABS indicator, High-beam indicator. They have given a separate mode switch to toggle through mileage , average speed like that stuff and they are two buttons below the display which is to toggle trip A,B and total kms ridden.Aprilia has missed parking brake-clamp which will be handy to park in slopes.
Verdict:-
This Italian designed Indian made maxi-scooty is priced at 1.51lakhs on-road Chengalpattu which is expensive to go with. It gives you a better reputation, refinement, features, Quality, Looks, Eventhough it has lot of stuffs blah blah blah when it comes to price it is bit expensive it should have been priced 20k less. But this is not the case of the people who buys the Aprilia because it all depends on brand value. Worth but expensive. One can buy it for the brand value and its stuffs.Peace out!!!!
