What an absolute magical time for me. My wife of 18 years had left divorcing me, lost my business and 2 million dollars at age 42. Dead broke, put my beloved dog Chester to sleep, sold my house and moved from Alpharetta GA to Richmond VA all in one year. It was a change of life that propelled me to a new and wonderful life. Watching the Rankin family listening to their music was pure magic. I reconnected with my roots and it's something I'll never forget. It inspired me to push on, something I'll treasure forever. Keep your dreams alive and don't let small minded vapid people steal your soul. Always keep the music in your heart. Never settle for less no matter what. I'm 67 years young now and their music still inspires me. The best is yet to come! Btw, still have a huge crush on Heather 😊
I am grieving with the rest of this Country over the death of Raylene. The magic this band produced with their music touches the hearts of all Canadians. "North Country" is a personal favorite of mine. RIP Raylene - we love you.
Such a great song. Actually brings a tear to my eye remembering my dad who was from Inverness and our family vacations down to Cape Breton driving around Inverness, Mabou, Lake Ainslie. He would of loved to see the Rankinis. RIP dad. I love you
I raised all my three daughters listening to your music. They are in their 20’s now, all adopted from China, but they embrace this culture, my culture, more than than their birth culture. While I dragged them to Mandarin school when they were small, my guess is they would have all preferred to learn Gallic
This is one of my all-time favourites from the Rankin's Family. The song has provided me with hours of enjoyment and listening pleasure. A big Thank-You to this group!
North Country is a song I never got tired of listening to. In my view it is one of the top, very top, vocal pieces from a Canadian band. Raylene will be remembered for this and other music from the Rankin family. Sad to see you go.
Out of all of their great songs, this has to be my favourite. Thank you so much for sharing! I would still love to see the original video of this song.
I have lived in the USA for the last 20 years, I haven't gotten back to Canada as much as I wish, and for whatever reason UA-cam pulled this up for my drive home the other night, I had to get off the road and listen...and shed a few tears...I miss the north...
I was saddend to here about her passing, and my heart goes out to her family,friend,etc...Good music has no bounderies, I really liked Raylenes voice...One of the best!!! She'll be sorryly missed!!!
Wow, I just discovered this band recently, and I am incredulous that they weren't much more popular. The music, the singing, the songs! All extraordinary. It's all the more bittersweet now that Raylene has passed. God, I love this group.
I hope you get a chance to find their original video of North Country. It’s wonderful. With my family coming from Mabou, I always get homesick when I hear this song. I’d love to get back home.
Fare The Well Raylene, you will be sorrily missed may you bring the same beauty in Heaven as you brought us here on earth. I know i will certainly miss you . My condolences to your family. They have alot to be proud of about your gift to all of us . Until we meet in Heaven .Sylvia
top 3 from this family that i love being from the Maritimes and living in Wisconsin now for the past 10 years ... sadly heading home this month to take care of things for my mom ,[dementia] got ahold of her .
It's a travesty that a band as fine as The Rankins get so few hits! How anyone could fail to agree that they are one of the most talented bands of the past 20 years I really don't know!
I am in 100% in agreement with you. It is a travesty. Hearing their music, you cannot help but feel the Canadian blood that flows through your body. It makes me feel proud to feel Canadian. I am grieving right along with you with the death of Raylene.
@@ArianaH3ART i was gonna say... it's only 2023 and longevity runs in their family. We miss Raylene and John Morris... so much hurt... this family needs to re-group and just BLOW THE WORLD AWAY in 2024! And if they don;t bring it back maybe i'll just start covering and making it happen for them... best Canadian band EVER!
I just thought she looked beautiful til I read your comment ... Went back to see what on earth you were talking about. Nope. She’s still just plain beautiful (and I like her hair!).
Oh right: a woman = her appearance and a woman who is performing, lead singer even = double the scrutiny Thank goodness I never ended up trying to make a living in Canada in the performing arts. I saw what it did to my grandparents, dad and uncle. The men aren’t commodified the way women are. They’re expected to please simply as MUSICIANS (but all too often no matter where they go).

OMG, somebody is still watching these. Thanks for the reply and things are doing great!
This family should have a reunion tour. Jimmy Rankin has such nice eyes in this video.

The first time I heard Heather's beautiful voice was when I heard this song. It remains a favourite.
Wonderful song!! Love it.....and she is the cutest little thing...
I second this - what a fabulous band and such beautiful music.
I fell in love with Heather when I first heard this song. Oh that voice! And she's beautiful! I have her solo CD. Did she ever put out another one?
they are very talented with beautiful voices
I still absolutely love the Rankin family
It is amazing how so much sound comes out of such little bodies!! I seen them in Perth ONT.

Where is that video????
Looking everywhere for it
One of my all-time favourites, despite a lack of celtic blood in me. Just love this song!
Absolutely, best coming together of harmony.... must be in the genes....
I only got to see them on A Prairie Home Companion in N.Y.C. Must'a been 15 years ago. I bought several of their CD's the next day.
RIP Raylene, your pretty voice will live on.

@carvealegoff - Isaw them at the Irish Centre in Liverpool UK many years ago, also a small venue - like an irish pub! Awesome evening!
Miss Heather will always be...
Not much tops John Rankin on the keys, one of the best Maritimers to ever play!
Heather Rankin on lead vocals? She tops it all.

Anyone here like Alvvays?
you know it! people will search out this music for centuries. :)
Alvvays is the only reason I’ve even heard of the Rankin Family. I can see where Molly got her talent from.
I love Alvvays. I was listening to "After The Earthquake" and a few clicks later, I found myself here.
Where's the official video?
wow!
RIP Cookie!!!!
Cookie didn't die, it was Raylene Rankin and the brother John Morris rip.

Of course not. My only regret is not discovering them sooner.
Two thumbs up. And maybe a big toe too!

C A Campbell I meant it more as a joke. It just looks like she cut her own bangs or something. She is beautiful and talented.
Agreed Igcrooks.
They would never get away with wearing such dowdy clothes now.
I don't know if its the audio or their accent ... all I hear is Charlie Browns teacher. Wa, Wa, Wa,Wa.
The audio def sucks
Indeed I love the studio recording and didn't they win a Juno for this?
