Lister clone flywheel engine startup

- I am putting this Lister clone flywheel engine up for sale; it has been sitting in my shop for a number of years collecting dust so it is time for it to go to somebody who will use it! It is a 10HP single cylinder diesel engine. The generator head is an ST type split phase (120/240, normal household current). The engine and generator work perfect; no problems at all.

For one of these sitting on casters, this is a well balanced engine for sure. Very smooth running, no jerking around.
In a future all-electric world of renewables and fusion reactors I hope there are a few Listers and similar lying in museums that we can start up when there is another Carrington event and grid is down. 🤔

this is the type of diesel I need for my schooner project, long stroke, low RPM, big flywheels, hand start capability, don't know if you still have this or where you are, but thanks for the demo of that engine
OK, a LONG time ago, I worked at a rental yard,
that had 2 different Lister powered generators.
1 was a 2 cylinder, the other was 3 cylinders.
When they were warm, two cranks on the 2 cyl,
release the compression release on one cyl, and
it would start. Chunk-chunk. Release next cyl,
chunkchunk-chunkchunk. Wish I could find those
again!
Boss's grandfather was supplying extra power
to the Boulder (Hoover) Dam, with them. Or so
I was told.

I was looking at this and trying to figure out where and how a serpentine belt would work, then I thought that perhaps you mis-spoke and meant to say 'polyvee' belt. I gathered that by noticing the poly-vee pulley on the generator shaft.
I'll tell you one thing, it might be a Lister Clone, but it starts with a lot less smoke than an original Lister does. That's a sweet running engine , I'll give you that !
good sound
I always have problems starting those engines with the handle. I prefer the electric method. But alot of people seem to be comfortable with those handles and start those engines with ease. I can spend sometimes 30 minutes just trying to start the engine.
Nice I bet you will miss that sound. My Grandfather built his own compressor had a unique sound to it. Good luck with the sale I am to far away to peak at it.

Do you list your equipment for sale on the internet? I happen to be looking for a real generator. I have a 5K and a 10K box store models and still find myself in need of a generator....
I occasionally sell generators on my local craigslist; I'm not really in the business though...its more of a hobby that I occasionally earn a few $$ at! I will have a trailer mounted MEP-002a for sale sometime in the coming weeks...

Found this chart with a google search, I don't know if it's accurate, but I like those numbers!
Consumption at 1/4 load 0.163 gallons/hour
Consumption at 1/2 load 0.192 gallons/hour
Consumption at 3/4 load 0.251 gallons/hour
Consumption at full load 0.296 gallons/hour
Fuel Tank Capacity 2.5 gallons
Run Time at 1/4 Load 15.3 hours

if you wanted to, you could probably rig up a small turbocharger and get some more power out of it.
