Interesting to hear the news stories of the day; I'm old enough to remember hearing this stuff live.
I wish I'd have known about these at the time. I would have loved them. The news transports me back to those days. I was 19 when this episode was first broadcast. The Patti Hurst kidnapping and the Symbionese liberation army, the Watergate break-in and demise of Nixon's presidency, and the energy crisis and long gas station lines, some of which are mentioned in this broadcast, were part of our everyday life. Funny that the commercials which were so annoying at the time are such an enjoyable part of the nostalgia. And of course, the kind of suspense and horror of the time has been passe for decades. I'm reminiscing not lamenting, though I occasionally feel sad about good times and loved ones long gone.
I was 27 and working as a psychiatric nurse's aide - working with schizophrenics and loving it. I remember the Patty Hearst kidnapping and her subsequent misadventures in a general sort of way. I was enjoying watching Nixon's presidency go down the drain - I had a bumper sticker reading "Don't blame me, I voted for McGovern." Good things were happening in my love-life. All in all it was a good year for me personally. Wish I'd been aware of CBSRMT back then but it's possible I wouldn't have made time for it; I was following the music scene on two fronts - at country venues and rock concerts - and was doing drugs, drinking beer, making love and still finding time for political reading and discussion as well as reading a lot of psychology. Gosh, come to think of it my life today is pretty sedentary in comparison.
You reminisce. I'll lament.
I wasn't born until 1988! 😅
I missed out on a lot!
Patty Hearst
@@werebitch1313I always hated I missed out on disco (born 1967)😕
I used to listen to theses in High School. My father hooked me on to theses. This is awesome. Never thought I would here these again.
So did my papa
Love this program. It brings back so many good memories of my youth. Thank you CBS
I must have lost a full grade point in my average at high school because I stayed up late listening to Radio Mystery Theater. I had a little radio I'd gotten for my birthday and I would keep it in bed with me at night--just to hear this program!
misharyutubbee Was it a weekly program or daily? I know with so many episodes they wouldve had no problem playing it nightly
I grew up listening to the original run beginning in the 1970s as well. It was usually a new episode every weeknight, but sometimes they would have a few weeks with reruns/repeat broadcasts. At least that's the way it was broadcast out of Los Angeles, KNX 1070 AM. I believe that's where the show was also produced.
Don Mason Wow, amazing production value for this series!
It usually ran Monday through Friday, although a few stations ran episodes on Saturday or Sunday nights. Originally, it was a new episode each night, but later, there were only three episodes that were new and a couple of older re-runs for each evening's broadcasts. There were 1399 original episodes broadcast, with a number of repeats. The show ran from early January 1974 to the end of December 1982.
My radio was green!! Thanks for bringing back that memory.
I love it, especially with the original news and commercials - it's like a visit to the past. Thank you for posting this, another fine CBSRMT episode!
Love old radio the mind is so much better than tv thanks for having it
Superb time machine.
Oh, I’ve accidently come across some cool old radio news flashes listening to these podcasts? One 1950’s show was interrupted to announce North Korea’s invasion of the south and one 1930's show announced Amelia Earhart as next week’s guest, upon her return from her round the world flight!
Yes! I got goosebumps when I heard that announcement on Lux Radio Theater, about Amelia.
There's old time radio from 1800 too early 1900 with actual news feed from Roosevelt on the Pearl Harbor attack. Check that out. Very interesting
I saw on Ed Sullivan rerun when Elvis Presley was on for the first time. Also Ike and Tina Turner. And the Jackson 5 . On Antenna TV. Also the Dick Cavett Show it's still running and he is still alive.
@@ji5055 Wait, what? Network radio in 1800? No, that's got to be a typo. News of the Pearl Harbor attack in 1900? No, that's four decades too soon.
Maybe you meant to say 1920 to 1950, that seems more likely.

I remember when Patty Hearst got into all that trouble. I remember where I was when I heard it on the radio
Love hearing the old sports stuff. This was when baseball was still bigger, or at least as popular as the NFL. It's still popular, but the NFL overtook it as our favorite. Just hearing the old names like Johnny bench, Reggie Jackson reported as current news is amazing. Baseball is the greatest sport in America in its tie to country history. It has always been a big part of current events. Players drafted, breaking color barriers in sports, etc. Baseball by Ken Burns is a must watch to show this.

I needed a different channel
The beginning of edge of nightfall CBSRMT has a monotonous beginning.
I like the creaking door and commercials
Wouldn't it be cool if Mrs hawk could hear this that won the Campbell soup😮 random phone calls
Too many commercials
I was in San Francisco at that time.
@Coal Akida -- The announcer said *maybe*. Then again, maybe it took her peace of mind, or the trust of family and friends (since they seem to think she's acting crazy now).
The last part about Doris supposedly losing something on the mountain - the writers had temporary amnesia when they came to the ending. Doris probably had a *pure heart* and definitely believed in the power of the mountain, so she was most likely to come off of it unscathed. I hate sloppy writing.
Iran and Iraq are the same. Histories repeating itself
Eeeeek ! its dark in here
How does anyone fall in love with someone like that, I think its funny how many people fall in love in mere seconds on these shows. You know ?
ACTUALLY IN REAL LIFE AS WELL,, THEN OF COURSE DIVORCE FALLS SHORTLY AFTER WORDS.
LOVE IS FICKLE FOR MOST PEOPLE,, BLESSED ARE THE PEOPLE WHO CAN SAY I FOLLOWED GOD'S COMMANDS AND STAYED MARRIED EVEN THOUGH I HATED HIM OR HER.
SOME TIMES DIVORCED PEOPLE HAVEN'T HAD ENOUGH OF SORROWS AND THEY GET READY TO GO AGAIN DOWN THAT LONG ROAD OF MISERABLE DAY AFTER DAY LIFE WITH SOME ONE ELSE,,, JUST TO HAVE NO LOVE FOR HER OR HIM AND THE BOAT RIDE SINKS.
HUMANS LOVE OF ANIMALS SEEMS TO LAST,, YET HUMANS HAVE A TENDENCY TO SAY GOOD BYE TO EACH OTHER. WE SAY YOU HAVE CHANGED,, MAY BE FALL IN LOVE TO QUICKLY BEFORE WE FIND OUT ABOUT EACH OTHER.
SAD LIVING IS NOT LIVING.
